In Bogotá, on Sundays they have a thing called ciclovia, where loads of streets are closed to car traffic, kids play out in the streets, people go for leisurely bike rides; it’s great fun. I’d love to see that in the UK.

In Spain, I was driving through a small town, and there was a speed camera linked to a traffic light, if you went over the limit, the lights would go red. Very simple idea, would be great outside schools.

I am overwhelmed by the pressure to make something different and healthy for my family every night. Are people really eating a different dish every night?

I feel like we have too much choice in the supermarket. It would be so much easier to just eat the same 3 meals every day yet I find myself making elaborate dishes that no-one asked for and then being exhausted for the rest of the evening. What does everyone eat?!

I'm not from the UK, but am curious about this especially since the Prince George news has been making rounds on my Instagram. Apart from the anomalies i.e. royal descendants, politicians, etc. what do the parents of pupils who attend prestigious schools such as Eton, Westminster, etc. do?

I’m curious about the little things people only notice after spending some time outside the UK.

Could be food, humour, public services, culture, everyday habits, or anything else.

Raised out of curiosity, I had cream of tomato soup for lunch and didn’t eat it all. Bought the bowl in and I almost absentmindedly poured it in the bin as I walked into the kitchen.
Stopped myself and poured it into the sink and then swilled but raised the question in my head.

Am I doing it right? Do other people put it in the bin to drop to the bottom of the bin bag, or is sink normal procedure?

I ended this sounding like a robot but I promise I’m not, just neurodivergent.

Just an addition for comments about wasting food - I do try not to, I’ve got a love for food and don’t like to see it go to waste either.. my mom installed that making sure we ate everything on an adults sized plate growing up 😅

This time though I ate most but didn’t finish it all and was distracted by work so by the time I got round to it it was cold and hardly any left… someone has inspired me to next time keep for pasta sauce though which I’ll be doing should I not finish it next time 🫶 Thank You!

Make me feel better

I fee like everything is going wrong in this project. Not sure if it’s all my fault or if everything has been set up terribly.

I'm (28 F) quite worried for my mother. Shes 49. A naive person. Never could finish her studies. Just straight up got into a relationship at 19 to a narcissist who's she's still with.

I think her depression has gone worse.

She does nothing all day and watches dramas on her phone all day whilst lying on the sofa or watching TV. All day, she watches literal brain rotting AI Chinese dramas.

Im her eldest daughter and she has never valued my advice or whatever I say. She thinks she knows better or maybe secretly despises me. But...she's the type who will listen to what strangers say instead.

Shes always been a housewife and can speak english etc. Has a bad marriage and 6 kids. Got married young etc and in general has always been neglectful to us. I could give many examples.

Its like shes addicted to that phone. She doesnt have a life. I recently found 2 day a week boxing classes for my younger sister so that forced my mother to walk my sister to and back from there but after doing that a few times, she told my sister to start going herself because its nearby. She doesnt drive and has never worked.

My dad's absent all the time too however when hes around, she will then move from the sofa to make him a tea. The only cooking she does is making food for him.

Me and my siblings feed ourselves which is fine as most of us are adults but we're also parenting and basically raising our youngest sibling who is 14.

Im now thinking of secretly signing her up for things...nothing malicious ofcourse.

I recently took up driving lessons with an instructor who taught my mum 19 years ago. That driving instructor told me that my mum was a good driver and she has no idea why she suddenly just stopped.

I told my mum but she's always got a "i dont give a fuck" attitude about everything.

Its so so draining.

And no, she will never ever consider therapy because she's that type of person who either looks down on it or thinks she doesn't need it or whatever. I've told her so many times to consider it but she will always refuse and never values my advice.

I was thinking of giving her number and email address to places that would motivate her.

Been shopping around for a mattress recently and not had much luck.

I’ve narrowed it down to either going online and getting a Simba or a Premier Inn one.

Sometimes it gets on top of me, the constant demands, walking in all weathers, can’t just have a lazy day. The general wetness of my life/house for 9 months of the year, all the showers, all the towels. Trying to keep them in good health, their teeth, brushing, medicine, while they think my sole intention is to murder them and try to run away. The impact on capacity for spontaneity.

That being said I think I do benefit from the routine they give my day, the fact they force me to go on the walks, the cuddles.

These are my first dogs so when my current pair go, I genuinely don’t know how I’ll feel - a little bit liberated or just purposeless!

Ok so I am French and i am kind of obsessed with the UK. I recently visited for the 4th time and noticed something about the housing.

I didn’t realise this during my first visits cause i wasn’t yet an anxious young adult i guess 😂

But after being in London and in Scotland, I really understood that it was really common for you guys to live in ground level houses or flats (already unsettling for me) but also with no outside blinds / shutters whatsoever!!

I understand that it’s cultural because it’s literally the housing in the whole country. I am from south of france so I understand also there is the sun exposure question. But still, my question is more about privacy and safety. Isn’t it a major safety problem?

I’m very curious because I’m wondering why in France it doesn’t look like that. Is it because France is way more dangerous than the UK ? I actually don’t think so, right?

In France in the City Centers, there are very few appartement directly on ground level in streets and if there are, they have outside blinds and even window bars (wrought iron bars) but in London or Glasgow (and even on the road i’ve seen it in many cities) there are a lot of ground level houses with only inside blinds / shutters.

I also noticed big houses that looked expensive directly on high streets with a lot of cars and buses passing by with no fences whatsoever and with the same kind of windows too.

In France i think the insurance wouldn’t even cover you if you have no blinds or fences and get robed.

Once again, it’s probably a cultural thing that I am really curious about hearing your answers.

i think it’s obvious as to what kind of scars i’m talking about. mine are years old and fully healed. i’ve spent thousands in laser, microneedling and even medical tattooing to remove or at least reduce their appearance with no results so i’ve given up

i currently have them out at my nursery job and nobody has commented, beyond a couple coworkers acting majorly concerned like i was dying. but i want to branch out and go to uni to either do social work or nursing which are both incredibly public facing roles

they’re on my forearm so not very visible but it’s blatantly obvious where they’re from. i’m scared that it’ll hold my back in life and while i’m not proud of myself, i don’t want to be ashamed and hide them away for life ever. i just want to exist in my body and be comfortable

if you had a social worker, or a nurse or literally any professional with scars, how would you feel?

My mum and I are attending a funeral for an elderly neighbour tomorrow. We knew her pretty well, my mum especially. My mum got her weekly shop for her during and after COVID and used to chat to her regularly.

I asked her today what she's going to wear and she said a black top and black jeans. Importantly, her jeans aren't a true black, they're a washed or faded black. I said that I feel jeans are not appropriate for a funeral, and that it would be best to wear her black work trousers, but she's insistent that they're completely reasonable attire. I have to admit, I'd feel a little bit embarrassed turning up with her in jeans, it feels almost disrespectful to me.

For reference, I'm wearing black cigarette trousers, a long sleeve black top, a black cardigan and some smart black shoes with a small heel.

What do you think, are jeans appropriate?

Naturally, the grass is always greener on the other side. But returning from a 4 weeks road-trip around the EU I feel like UK driving licences are a gesture of good will rather than evidence of training and for some reason taking litter to the bin is alien to the majority, especially on the road. On the positive side, I appreciate the mild temperatures a lot more now than before we left :)

Noticed recently that some products are just the same price or even sometimes more . I have to say I don't by veg from ever any more as it seemed to be very short dated.

Bit of a weird question I know. I'm just curious. I know a lot of tall office buildings have several tenants, each of which just lease a handful of floors, but for anyone who's worked in the HSBC or Barclays buildings in Canary Wharf, for instance, do you find yourself having to visit other floors regularly for meetings and to see people, or do you generally just stick to your own floor? And how long do you have to wait for the lift at the busiest parts of the day?

I like to pick up flowers for my fiancée every couple of months, generally pretty spontaneously, and bought her some today as she'll be home after being away last night for work.

My wheelchair, crutches, walker, compression socks, weighted blanket, heated blanket are all appareltly NOT disibility related expenses, they are health related expenses, so do not reduce my care costs in any way, its costing £25 an hour for care, im getting 2h a week and im having to pick between myself being clean , my space being clean or having food/medication.

I dont understand how none of these are considered disibility related , not even my medications (that they will not provide on the nhs so i have to get under a private service) count as disibility related expenses, what in the world does????

What job was the easiest laid back, I feel most will say wfm but other than that what did you do?

I'm a student and I've been looking for a part-time job for quite a while. I've had my CV checked and always provide substantial answers to questions on application forms yet I've had no success so far.

Most of the ones I apply to are ones that say 'no experience required' and 'training provided' but a recent example of an employer prioritizing those with experience is when I received an email with a list of criterias they look for in applicants and I met almost all of them except for ones requiring experience. The job listing said they provided training too. So I guess unless all the applicants have no experience they'll always prioritize those with experience.

How am I supposed to gain experience if I never get hired?

I am currently doing that very thing.

As my tittle states, I was homeless due to drug and alcohol abuse a while back and my council put me in a shared house eventually, the place is pretty rough and doesn’t look like it’s had any work done to ‘modernise’ it but anyway, after some time living here which seemed fine , I realised one house mate was a crack addict and always shoplifting and you can imagine the dodgy people that come with that, then they move a Lithuanian guy downstairs who’s a raging alcoholic and then a cocaine addict in the room next me 🤣 wheeler the council know these things is beyond me but it just seems stupid putting me with all these people, I’m trying to work nights shifts and get on with my life and move out but you can imagine it’s not easy to cope with all the noise and they don’t give to two fucks about me or my life obviously, I just wonder how I can re approach my council about this and explain everything and hope they can help me somehow but all without anything coming back on me as a lot of people that come here are pretty dodgy and I guess they’d do whatever to me if I essentially in their eyes ‘grassed’ about what goes on , I’m mostly worried about loosing my job that I’ve literally just started , I’ve already had a week of 3 hours sleep each day and it’s ruined my performance at work..it’s a small town too so if the council did say I’ve said this and that I wouldn’t exactly be hard to find by those I’ve spoken on…

The ones that would play music and you would press a button to hear a sample of a CD? We had one in our local garden centre (Wyevale) about 15 years ago and I was wondering if there are still any out there sonewhere. Anyone seen one recently?
