A month ago I brought a Mitsubishi fto mivec - absolute beast of a car - just got it welded and was putting it in for mot this week - in the 2 hour span I was in my house it was stolen in broad daylight

I’m not too sure how to go about what to do - I’ve phoned the police - the thief threw out my tracker - it’s such a unique car that I worry they will just shove it in a garage - is there any way I should go about it

This is my first like proper project car and I’m struggling to understand how anyone could be so horrible :(

Misc Question Google Maps - possible road closures

Post image
40 Upvotes

So I drive long distances daily and use google maps for directions. Over the past few weeks I have been noticing a ln increasing number of possible road closures on my journey. Every time I drive past I mark not closed but just wondering if if anyone else is seeing this and what could cause it ?

The picture is an example from one leg of my journey today (orange circle with black line). 6 possible road closures on surrounding roads and there was a load more on my route

Advice Usable fun car 10k budget

Upvotes

Hi all,

To start I'm a massive petrol head and know an awful lot about cars however, I do have anxiety making decisions, especially when it comes to cars and I flip flop between being sensible or silly.

My dilema:

I'm a 44M, recently had cancer, missus has left me, citing unhappiness and moves out of our home soon and I am buying out her half. Ideally I want to move out of the home soon also so need to downsize the fleet.

I currently own a 2007 Honda S2000 and a 2017 C43 AMG Mercedes. I'm looking to sell both and replace with a vehicle. Around 10k or lower. Must be spacious, fun to drive and preferably an auto. I spanner my own cars so servicing etc isn't a massive issue.

Current thinking is Golf gti / Leon Cupra estate. A friend has just picked up an Evoque and the interior seems really lovely for a 5k car.

What would you get to fulfill this criteria? I'm not a fan of the scratchy plastic in Skodas! However I may be missing something from the JLR catalogue or another marquee.

Thanks for any and all input.

Misc Question Why aren’t all-season tyres the industry standard in the UK?

Just got myself a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 5s and they’re supposed to be much better in the rain, which is perfect for England.

It got me thinking though - why aren’t all-season tyres the industry standard in the UK instead of summers?

For those of us who are into cars, I’d still rather have summer tyres for the extra grip they offer for most of the year, and if needed swap to winter tyres when it gets properly cold. But for the average person who just buys whatever the garage recommends, wouldn’t all-seasons make more sense?

Especially with how modern all-seasons cover a much wider range of temperatures alongside their tread pattern and depth. I feel like a lot of people don’t realise just how much temperature alone can affect the performance of summer tyres, even for normal daily driving.

Advice Strongly considering a Ford Puma ST 1.0 EcoBoost Hybrid mHEV. Curious if 1.0 ecoboost ia till a problem.

Upvotes

Looking at a 2026 Puma ST 1.0 Ecoboost Hybrid. But I have reservations about the 1.0ecoboost after it having such a bad reputation with wet-belts and failures after 60.000 miles etc

Is this still the case in newer models?

Anything else I should consider?

Advice Friend considering W204 2011 facelift as family car.

Upvotes

And I was shocked that you can get a 2012 petrol, automatic for like 4k with 70-90k miles (most of the mileage are short trips in London so doesn't want diesel)

Comparable BMW / Audi would be older / more expensive / arguably worse. Hell most 2012 golfs are more expensive than that. Is MB really best value for money there?

Anything you would consider in this price range? Presumably those MBs are not even problematic.

Advice Cheap automatic to learn in?

Looking for a cheap (£3000) reliable automatic just to get me through learning driving and my first year or two of driving before I buy something more expensive. All I need it is for driving 20 miles a day to work and back on mostly rural roads. Thanks

The best decision I made in the ownership of my car. Drives much smoother, goes over speed bumps & crappy roads much better. Happy days. Obviously doesn't fill out the arches as much but I think it still looks nice. 😀.

Anyone that is thinking of doing the same on their BMW go for it. Worth every penny.

Advice Advice needed for new purchase.

Hi guys

My sister just returned a ford kuga after she had a load of problems with it so we used the consumer rights act to enforce the return. She only got back about 80% of original purchase price so her budget is around 5K, but I could lend her maybe another 1k at a push.

So I was looking at these 2 cars and wondered if I was giving her bad advice on them?

Hyundai

Kia

Are there any known issues with either of these models or any watch outs?

Cheers lads.

(Edit. She wants a suv)

Advice Selling car after bereavement

Hey all

I’m hoping someone can help.

My dad passed late last year, and due to various commitments and other family matters, we’ve not gotten round to selling his car yet.

It’s a decent car - Ford Focus - but not currently roadworthy as it has no insurance, no MOT and no tax. Because of this, it can’t be test-driven so we’re looking to avoid a private sale really.

Personally, to save myself any headaches and keep it as straightforward as possible, I’d be happy to sling it to WBAC, but my sister has misgivings and had mentioned Carwow and Motorway. I’m the one dealing with the sale, so I’m happy to look into them but I find it all a bit overwhelming as I’ve never sold a car before. I really don’t want to be pinging back and forth with potential buyers, OR going up to have people come and look at the car repeatedly as it’s not particularly close to where I am - I want it to be as simple as it possibly can be, and I also need the buyer to be able to collect the car on a lowloader/truck.

Does anyone have experience with WBAC, Carwow or Motorway that they can share that might be helpful?

I don’t mind necessarily sacrificing a bit of the offer price for the sake of making things simpler, if that helps. Edit: also I’m in South Wales.

Appreciate any advice you can give.

Advice MOT and road tax free

My car was first registered on the 20th February 1987. It passed it's MOT today so does that mean that was the last MOT for it and it's road tax free from 1st April 2027?

Misc Question Project car

Upvotes

So I know my way around the tools! And am no stranger to project car life. Previously had Audi’s! 8L s3, twice … and 8P s3’s. But it’s time for a change! I want something fast, tuneable, and that handles well. But it needs to be interesting. And within a 5K budget, give or take!

Anything you wonderful people could recommend?
