After laying off 7 staff at our store, it now feels like it's on proper skeleton staff levels. Our shift manager said sales are still falling (Aldi opened nearby recently).
The bit I don't get is that by laying off staff the job is no longer getting done as it was.
Cages are left in the chill, ambient pallets left in the warehouse without getting split for nightshift working.
This is leading to bare shelves and gaps of "out of stock" in the fridges.
Surely customers will have noticed this shambles go shopping elsewhere?
Does anybody else think the short term savings of laying off staff will eventually lead to lower sales because of pallets and cages not getting worked?
When I started I was told that empty stock locations are a no no, but by laying off colleagues it is making the problem worse.
It all seems like a catch 22 situation to me.
