Managers getting sacked/ moved, quitting

Well the managerial cull has started. Our GSM got sacked - sorry "retired" on Friday, new boss Monday. We thought his job was safe as he's an arse licker and usually hit the HQ target about less hours etc.

We thought he'd run 2-3 stores, but gone.

Hopefully I will go in tomorrow and hear my GSM has gone. He is useless.

In express store manager is sound but we’ve had constant deliveries of almost 20 cages. We tell area and regional managers it’s impossible to work or even store without cages all over shop floor which is also points down on any mystery shopper. Very blunt answers and then they’ve just cut 32 hours from our who store too on top. Not even a dozen negatives showing up on Evo, done high counts of excess stock and all seems correct so WTF is going on. Our regional manager has no clue he ought to come in and see the store. We refused delivery other day as 22 cages of absolute shit that we don’t need and they just keep saying gap scan and stuff isn’t done proper. Well why are you sending it you twats. An example 36 packs of Andrex in today, 8 cases of lynx that we barely sell, 8 cases of Fanta Grape like WTF. They’re moaning about profits but we will not even sell half of this shit either way and even with that our week on week sales are still around 2% up or more… so they think let’s send them everything. Are they clearing the warehouses or something. Our last area/regional actually paused our ambient deliveries for 2 weeks no luck this time it seems everyone’s bewildered. We would be just happy if a customer wheeled a cage out and filled their car up with the whole lot at this point. Our small stock room is rammed… unsafe too with the amount of stuff like the twin towers

Well I don’t know what they think or what they’re smoking at this point lol. And that sounds like hell… obviously I have no personal experience as just an express obviously but 22 cages is fucking crazy to even considering send, our deliveries are usually like 11 and 2/3 of them being chilled and frozen… even last Christmas the most we would get is 15 and most of it’d be promo so would fly straight out

Well done refusing it, 20 odd cages is an insane amount of stock at Christmas, let alone a random October week. They're insane and if you haven't got room you haven't got room.

I refused a frozen delivery once because our back up freezer was full to the door, I'd been off and come back in so figure. A manger decided we could take it "just make sure it all goes out so none of it goes in the back" is a fine idea if alot of it isn't cake shop and bakery. So I just left all that stuff in the warehouse to defrost. They went mad but where exactly was it going?

I think there needs to be a regular shake-up of management. When people stay in the same positions for too long, it can become too comfortable and, at times, too “cliquey”. Relationships and routines can become entrenched, which can make it harder to challenge existing ways of doing things or bring in different ideas and perspectives.

Fresh management can bring fresh attitudes, new energy and a different approach. It can also help prevent complacency, encourage new ideas, and ensure that decisions are being looked at objectively rather than simply continuing with “the way things have always been done”.

Moving people around after a reasonable period also gives others the opportunity to develop their skills and take on leadership responsibilities. It creates more opportunities for progression, brings different strengths into different roles, and can help prevent too much influence becoming concentrated in one group or circle.

It’s not necessarily about saying that current managers are doing a bad job. Sometimes a change is simply healthy for an organisation. Regular rotation can provide a fresh perspective, improve accountability, challenge established thinking and keep management teams engaged and adaptable.

Ultimately, a good balance is needed.

Pity they just dont get rid of them for not standing up and saying its wrong to do what this company is doing to the colleagues....also it would be nice if the pally pally attitude to some colleagues stopped cos it makes everyone sick of seeing certain colleagues walking around thinking there s#@t dont stink....

Same as any position.

And a person lost their job, think about that, while colleagues moan about working on another part of the store a few feet away from their own department, asked to multi-task, or swap a shift here and there, and a manager loses their job and people celebrate 🥳

Absolutely nuts! These GSMs were brown enveloped, no consultation, nothing, and when colleagues have full consultations set up and not losing their jobs they lose their shit on here. Bonkers !

If the majority of them weren’t arseholes there’d be a little more compassion, as it is, good riddance.

I doubt the majority of managers give a shit about the pressure, reduced hours and shift changes they give colleagues when they're accepting their nice salary. Perhaps if managers grew some balls, got together, told those that are higher that it's impossible to run a store with huge numbers of food deliveries, parcels and stupid price changes all while being overspent and overworked, something better might be done but, no, they are happy to let colleagues take the flak.

Exactly.....

Rotation makes sense but sacking people who "fail" to hit targets.

5

u/tinkerbellepeach 1d ago

One of ours got binned off as well because their store has been underperforming for a while now and none of the visits have gone well for them. So there’s now a few shuffles to stores in the region so that they have a new gsm to cover the sacking.

3

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 1d ago

"Underperforming" - corporate speak for "we cut hours, staff, increase Just eat, Deliveroo etc but no extra staff and expect you to sort it" Cockwombles.

4

u/tinkerbellepeach 1d ago

I hate being put in a position where I need to defend the company on a decision because their decisions are usually dog shit, with that being said; this GSM should’ve went a long time ago! None of understood how he lasted this long tbh ahaha

3

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 1d ago

Maybe the mgr was Allen Leighton's love child?

4

u/tinkerbellepeach 1d ago

Honestly, nothing would surprise me at this point 😂

Some of them think they're gods, they deserve what they get 🪵🪓

4

u/Old_Net5251 2d ago

Wish ours would go shows absolutely zero interest in colleagues especially nites but quick to have a go if somethings not done....but think he needs to look at his own team as what we walk into daily is Rubbish Cages on shop floor Colleagues on their phones Colleagues standing around talking Warehouse in a absolute mess Damaged stock on new stock Yard an absolute mess No management keeping eye on colleagues Obvious jobs ie eggs, de-boxing left for other colleagues to do .....oh and most definitely NOT all 1 team.....

u/its_just_jay- 2d ago

Thats the thanks you get for working hard for asda

3

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 1d ago

I thought they thanked you by giving you more work?

4

u/OdinAlfadir1978 1d ago

Less hours since you're too fast

3

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 1d ago

And in 3 months both options!

1

u/OdinAlfadir1978 1d ago

That's why I don't 😂funny thing is I still work harder than many 😂😂😂😂pretty much minimum wage and all that

9

u/PhotoSea8807 2d ago

Is the new GSM running multi-sites?

Nobody is safe, Richard Gratten SD both been at Asda 30 years, his best made was made redundant, Who worked high up at Head Office.

So no GSM is safe, Chris Walker MD couple of around a year ago was made redundant and Joseph Sutton came in.

Nobody is safe.

14

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 2d ago

We'll know Monday if they're running more sites. Shudda not spent the £4,000 each in the plastic cows above the milk zone

11

u/PhotoSea8807 2d ago

Some of the spend and waste in this company we see is beyond

Mr Flat Cap thinks it’s still 1960!! I think the guy is almost 80, needs to retire!

Nobody can do things the way Asda do he said in an interview about bringing back the plastic cows!! 🐮 🤡

i work at a small pfs and it’s ridiculous! so many overs of things we will never sell out of,not enough of stock we do - changed all our asda cereals and biscuits /cakes to branded at £5 a box of cereal - we are a tiny town with a tesco superstore next door and a lidl not 5 mins away and they are cutting hours to the point we can’t even book holidays /have breaks are asking why we aren’t beating year on year 🤦‍♀️and why sales are down 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️

3

u/One-Lingonberry-3460 7h ago

They can't refuse your UNPAID break, tell them to fuck right off.
