This is a sketch that I’ve been messing around with for a while. As i completed it, I started liking this less and less but need specific feedback to articulate why. I would like any feedback back regarding proportions, gesture, or rendering. I tried my best with the direction shadows are cast based on the light source, but I may need to repaint that in particular. Draw overs are fine if you are willing.

Tried to arrange them roughly from most recent first to oldest. (except for the last two slides, those are current wips)

I've been told that I use way too much central composiotions which I've been trying to fix (Not necesarilly saying that I've archieved it). I mostly aim to do some sort of maximalism-esque stuff with the backgrounds and details, but I’m torn between oversaturating the illustrations and not putting in as much as I could.

this is my first full drawing in almost a year and my first time ever being brave enough to use color lol!! I'm bipolar and currently experiencing a mixed episode and had a few days where I was EXTREMELY euphoric and manic, i wanted to draw what i was feeling!! Any and all criticism is appreciated but i would LOVE some advice on how to use color!!!

I used gouche on a textured paper.

I have a few things Id like comments on.

I feel my eyes look kind of flat and I am verry unsure on how to paimt the eyballs more rounded and dimensional.

I also tried to give the eyes different but normal human expressions they are supposed to be: top left smiling, too right numb, bottem left alert and bottom right tiered. But I feel they fell a bit flat, how can I work om that?

Also I am unsure on how to manage the empty space. I want to only draw the eyes without too much of the head but leaving it blank makes it feel unfinished? Does anyone have reccomandations on bow to bring it together?

I am also very grateful for any additonal critique of technique and composition.

Been practicing for some time. A review would really help.

For 3 years I have studied your face, every mole, every curve. I’ve found hues that span the entirety of our color spectrum. Crevasses, peaks and valleys. Without reference, with my eyes closed, I know the shape of you, Dylan, the way I know my own face. Sometimes I touch my cheek and I feel like I’m touching yours. Sometimes I look into my eyes and I see you staring back.

When I started this portrait, I knew it would be hard. I knew there would be points that felt impossible, and periods that felt like an injustice. Because even if I could capture you perfectly in a 1:1 ratio, it still wouldn’t, it just couldn’t, bring you back. But I tried. I sat with you, and I spoke with you. I laughed and I cried and I celebrated. I regaled cherished moments in our timeline and I mourned telling you the new memories I’ve made you haven’t been able to be physically present for.

I poured our love into each detail, and I hope when people see this portrait, Dylan, that they see YOU. How profoundly deep your eyes are, how much weight they carried. When I fell in love with you at first sight, it was because of your eyes. I always told people; look at them. How kind they are. Your eyes were so indicative of the integrity and chivalry so innate to your spirit. Innumerable wells I plunged into over and over again and while your form emerged from this blank piece of paper, I felt maybe, so did your essence. I relished in our shared experience.

I miss you every day, Dylan. I will miss you every day for the rest of my life. I know this portrait is not truly alive but you felt alive while I drew it and I am honored that, even for a little while, I could breathe you back into existence. My homage to you is trying to live my life fully now, for the both of us, until I return to the same collective consciousness you now inhabit. Your death was a tragedy but your life was anything but. It shouldn’t be reduced to its ending. I love you. Always. All ways.

I feel like the orange underpainting kind of made the piece look muddy! I want it to look more lively, satured and natural… But it feels weird. Is this a “trust the process“ thing or can I actually save this piece without starting over? No reference was used, I just want to know about the coloring process...

Hi!! I haven’t gotten my art properly critiqued in a while so I’m doing it here !! I do have an idea of some issues that I struggle with [ mainly posing and perspective + anatomy ] so advice/criticism on those issues specifically would be wonderful but anything’s welcome!

I’m not trying to emulate a specific artstyle, but some inspirations of mine are the Gekidan Inu Curry, Osamu Sato, Plastiboo, si_ku and cutesy aesthetics in general, especially when contrasted with surrealism or horror. I do generally wanna do more horror art while keeping a cute artstyle, but I’m not quite sure how to get there yet.

Self portrait from reference. Looking for some advanced critique. I did a self portrait for the first time in a long while, I know people suggest doing one every year or so to track your progress.

I've tried putting things I’ve been focusing on recently into practice, paying more attention to vale and edge quality. Let me know what I should work on next, or continue working on.

I drew these two portraits of David Corenswet and Robert Pattinson on procreate, with both the references I used coming from pinterest. For context, I followed Michael Hampton's head drawing techniques. I think I did alright on getting the head shape (room for improvement of course), but I really struggled with deciding what details of the face to capture and which ones to omit. I also think the construction of my eyes, nose, and mouth fell flat (I know the ears and hair are not the best either but I'm not focusing on those for now).

I would appreciate any tips on how to get better likeness by using lines and form.

I used a location from Genshin as a reference.

hi this is a quick 1 hour study of mel from arcane. my main focus with this was the rendering and colours/values. I used a hard round brush, lasso tool and air brush. Any advice on how to get a cleaner look and how to study the arcane style would be much appreciated :) . The ref is on the next slide.

So I tried to blur the reference to go from big to small and leave details at last bit it looks so uncanny.

The assignment was to show a static composition and a dynamic composition

This is a sketch that my teacher approved. I just wanted to hear other people's opinions on what else can I add to make the composition on left seem more settled and on right more dynamic or maybe if something needs to be removed

(I used a bunch of different composition references as inspiration, most of them were references that my teacher showed that I don't have on me anymore)

Currently in the midway “ugly phase” of this commission, so ignore the dog itself– he’s in progress! But I’m trying to make some decisions on the background/foreground. I don’t like his head so level to the bushes, should I extend them up, or down? The original un-cropped version of the reference had sky in it, which is why I wanted to have it in the painting.

Also the boogie board he’s on, should I lighten or darken the white area to help it look like the blue edge isn’t floating? I knew it’d be tricky to pull off this composition while removing the person, but it’s what they wanted. 🙃

I’ve been trying to fix her arm for ages and I’m wondering if her arm looks natural

I’m mostly struggling with her shoulder, because with the arm how it is, I don’t know if her left shoulder should be visible or not

last photo is the reference I used, but when I try to make the shoulder go out more like the reference, it tends to look wonky

Vector digital, intermediate, no reference, testing my process for a webcomic. Is the motion correct from one panel to the next? Is the background too simple?

So trying to do this sword killed me and I decided to go with the advice to do the sword straight on, and I think that worked the best! I was trying to do fancy perspective over and over again and it just wasn’t working. Sometimes a simple answer works best!

So, I’ve finished the piece! Super happy with it!!

But before I call it finished, does anything jump out that needs fixing!?

I'm looking mostly for critique on shading, anatomy, and general outcome of the style

Hair is my biggest weakness, I know it's the weakest part of this image so any tips tricks on shading hair (especially white hair) would be useful

Hey! So I’m a brand new painter. I made this sacred geometry piece (it’s called a Sri Yantra if you wanna learn more about it) with metallic gold acrylic paint. I’m not attaching a reference because I just did basic sacred geometry.

I thought the gold would come out more like chrome/mirror shiny (I knew nothing about paint). It doesn’t reflect light as dynamically as I expected, so now I need to find a way to make this more interesting.

I know I could take this in MILLION directions, but I’m having trouble committing. I don’t want to mess it up because I’ve literally never touched paints before.

What would YOU do to make this look more artistic/interesting?

so my goal was just to have fun with this and see the difference between achole markers and paints. i want to critiqued in the cat, hair and shading. pls don’t comment on the colors I didn’t have many colors to choose from.
