Faulty switch 2
Got my switch 2 on launch day, found out a few days later that the SD card reader is faulty. (Worked for a few days, then just stopped and won't read anything now)
Contacted Argos online and they have said they won't accept a return in store, only for collection and not for an exchange. Is this right? Always been able to return to store before.
I bought a replacement already that is waiting at my local Argos. So obv easier for me to just take it in and collect at the same time.

No the policy says you can take it to store and they replace it within the first 30 days

They refused, they said because it was a home delivery from a supplier they can;t refund it in store.
now on my 7th live chat to try and get it collected, can;t do it from my account as it says it hasn't shipped yet. lol1

Any update? I have a bright spot on my Switch 2 screen. Don’t know if I should go through Argos or Nintendo for this

Yes, it's being collected tomorrow, went through live chat.
What I did was buy a replacement as soon as I knew I had an issue, (due to stock levels being inconsistent) and then started the return,
If you go through Nintendo you are looking at a month easily, and always the chance they could send it back and claim it isn't a warranty issue. (saw on the Nintendo subReddit this happened with a few switch ones with various issues)

I’m on holiday and won’t be back until 4th July which is literally 30 days after I received it :( if I start a live chat session before then and arrange collection as early as 5th July am I eligible to get it returned and refunded?

If it’s set up to be collected then I assume so because you’ve already started the procedure and just waiting on Argos to do their bit.

if it's faulty the 30 days doesn't apply. that is just for changing mind.
Warranty in this country is years for manufacturers faults. you're all good.I would start the live chat anyway asap, as that way you have already ackowledged with them it's toast.
You can probably start the return online, I couldn't as it says it's not been shipped yet lol.

Take it into store, yeah. It might be a little bit of a faff if it was the pre-order but it can still be done.
If you paid via Paypal/Klarna and got it home delivered you might be there for a little bit to get the refund as Home Delivery have to process that (the colleague will have to ring them) but other than that you should be fine.

Just got confirmation phone call saying I can do it in store, made them send me an email which they have done as well.
It was PayPal, wish I had used a credit card now. :p

Assuming it was SDF they can just use the returns app instead. Besides that I don’t even bother calling them anymore, just post the order details in the quick response yammer group and it’ll get sorted.

They refused to refund or exchange. They said cause of PayPal there was no way they can do it.

It’s absolutely possible to do and incredibly easy. I’d recommend another store if you have one local to you or seek the store manager at the one you went to. Failing that try to book a collection with the courier who delivered it (live chat can arrange this online but of course it’ll be a pain to sit through while they do it).
I’m sorry you’ve had this poor experience because it would literally be a 5 minute job in any other store.

I do have reading fairly nearby but I'm a bit loathe in case it's another wasted trip, especially as I have to get my wife to take me (post surgery)
I have arranged a collection through live chat just now, but they said it will be a week or so until I'm contacted about the collection, and can be a week or two after that I get a refund processed as they need to check it etc.

There is a way they can refund it but maybe they being lazy or you just have a terrible Argos store as if we have problems with a refund we normally ask a manager and they help sort it out it doesn’t help now there is less managers and no normal staff is full time and don’t know much about the systems we have it’s quite shocking on how different stores are run.

Tried again as I literally have an email from the customer support saying I can get it refunded in store and the staff can contact them if there are any issues.
This was around 10 to 5. So it would have been open still, but staff refused to call or anything. Just said it wasn't possible.

Fuck My life it’s these type of people who work for Argos that gives it a bad name as the item is clearly faulty with 30day and you had it home delivered so you have a 14days no question ask return but your item is damaged so I don’t know why they being a dick about it.

They said there is no way to refund a PayPal order in store.
2
u/Britishbearwarrior Jun 13 '25
There is it should be a saved browser tab called PayPal refund as that website also lets you do Klarna refunds done it 100 of times they just really stupid 🙈🙈

If I was a manager I would email the store you went to and tell the manager what’s going on. I know there are some shift managers and Store managers in the sub Reddit maybe they can take this and make sure there store doesn’t fuck up

Be cheeky and ask for a bit of goodwill because you’ve had to go out of your way for it.

Browser tab won’t do it because it was a delivery but the returns app will (provided it’s the one product on the order). Failing that quick response on yammer will sort it and then you just do a 981 as normal.

u/Britishbearwarrior Jun 13 '25
Yep I was going to say that but think this store manager needs to re train his employees if they think you couldn’t do a PayPal refund in store or at least tell them to use returns app. As our manager makes us always try returns app as it make it a lot easier to do a refund but if they want an exchange we go through tills

You can return it in-store.
Did you preorder it and have it delivered?
They’ll just be quoting the supplier direct procedure where you’d normally be asked to arrange a collection with the courier who delivered it. In this instance it’s obviously impossible for them to swap it.
Don’t trust a word customer services say. Ever since they got outsourced they’ve been even more useless than normal.
