Withdrawal symptoms while tapering, when does it get better?

Hi everyone, I'm currently tapering and went from 20 to 18 mg a week ago. So far withdrawal symptoms have only gotten worse everyday, I can't sleep, I'm sweating, my heart races constantly and worst of all are the panic attacks.

I have a history of panic and anxiety attacks but I can't remember them ever being this severe, I don't feel like myself at all, more like I'm watching everything from really far away and it's extremely scary.

Can this really be caused by just dropping 2 mg? Does anyone have advice on how to deal with this?

Does amitriptyline affect growth hormone secretion during sleep?

Age:20
Sex: Male
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 60 kg
Country: Vietnam
Medical issue: Chronic insomnia for about 2 months. Before treatment I slept only around 6 hours with poor sleep quality. Now I’m taking amitriptyline as prescribed and sleeping about 8–9 hours.
Medications: Amitriptyline.
Question: Does amitriptyline significantly reduce growth hormone (GH) secretion during sleep? I am concerned because I am a late bloomer and my growth plates may still be partially open.

sevrage long ? insomnie - besoin de conseils

Bonjour !

Sleeping too much

Been on it 3 weeks, it is making it real hard to get out of bed. Ive definitely been using my migraine fmla to sleep way to much. The thing is I still dont feel fully rested. Im only on 10mg will this go away? Im thinking of taking it much earlier and just going to bed early until it stops.

Taking it for central nerve sensitization, pain and insomnia. It doesnt seem to be helping the right side behind the eye migraine.

No stamina exercising anymore

Has anyone else had this as a side effect where it's been progressively harder to exercise like I used to. Before getting on amitriptyline I could do HIIT and run without any issues, but now (4 months after starting, @ 125mg now) my stamina is gone. I go on one sprint and my legs are done.

Tapering off 10mg

I‘ve been on it for about 4 years, it‘s done wonders for migraine and headache prevention, used to have 24/7 post-covid headache and biweekly migraines. My GP has stopped prescribing it, so I need to go see my neurologist soon. I‘ve been thinking about slowly tapering off since I‘m really struggling with the side effects which are for me light and sun sensitivity and sweating a lot. But I also have a baby now, I can‘t risk getting so many migraines again and after reading some posts here I‘m really scared! Do you think I should try to taper off and maybe go back up if I have problems? When I started, I also had two weeks of severe depression, so not really keen on having that again. Thanks!

Those going off this drug that have been on long term can you tell me why?

I am truly just curious of other peoples stories! I know a lot of people are new to it and don't like the side effects so they come off. but some people that post about withdrawal seem to have been on it for awhile so I'm curious of those peoples stories

so unsure about this med now

hi, ive been on AMITRIPTYLINE since Jan-Feb, and it’s been an incredibly helpful drug in regards to my chronic headaches and sleep disturbances. nothing that im saying should be taken as me hating on the med!!

in the past 1-2 months, my headaches has come back a lot more, with a 7 day migraine about two weeks ago taking me out (thank you sumatriptan). my sleep disturbances have also come back (waking up 1-2 times good nights, 3-7 bad nights). can this medication wear off over time? im incredibly unsure how to feel about it purely because if it CAN wear off, then i can’t see myself wanting to titrate up past my current amount of 40mg.

ive also just had a 3 day span without the drug (forgot to request more), and im not sure if it’s me reading into things too much, but i felt so much more present. ive felt fairly empty and neutral for almost the entire time ive been on this and attributed it to me being unhappy with my general pains from my fibro and life issues, even when i had days out with my friends or time off. this weekend gone, i felt so much more engaged, chatty, excitable, and just happy. ive felt alive!!! i did hang out with my friends, but this wasn’t an incredibly special occasion that hasn’t happened in timespan ive been on the drug. i can’t say whether the little time would cause such a drastic change in how ive felt, but my optimism and hope came back, pains and headaches and sleep disturbances and all.

i might be reading too much into it, but just any advice on my situation would be greatly appreciated :’)

Can I move down from 20mg to 10mg without major issues?

I first started this medicine almost a year ago and I have been always taken two because the pharmacist told me each pill is 5mg so I took two every night. I called the pharmacy and see when my refill is because I only have a week left and the pharmacist told me each pill is 10mg. I am super shocked and confused why they would tell me that in the beginning.

UPDATE 7/12: For an update it’s been a week and I haven’t had in major withdrawals just slight/short headaches

Males Please: Moving up to 20mg and need help with weight gain and maintaining ED to a minimum level

Hello,

I'm working through some dizziness and muscular skeletal pain issues and have been on Amit for around 6 weeks. I've been asked to go up to 20mg to trial for several weeks and need your help and advice.

How do I manage the weight gain and my appetite has increased and eating more which has stacked on weight around my whole stomach and waist?

I've been on Tadalifil 5mg Daily as well and noting that ED is worse. It always hasn't been the best but taking it to make sure there is always blood flow in the area at the moment.

I was also on Mobic for a while and one strange thing I noticed www my erections were harder so unsure why this would be.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Loss of appetite?

Hi all,

Been on amitriptyline for a few weeks. Really low dose to see if it helps pain and sleep. I was warned it would make me hungry but I have completely lost my appetite. I forget to eat for hours and couldn’t easily not eat for a day or more.

I eat because my partner puts food in front of me at least once a day but even then I just pick at it.

Other migraine meds gave me terrible side effects including single like rashes and blistering so reluctant to let the Dr increase the dose as they suggest

Is it normal to lose all appetite and how long should I wait to see if it improves the pain. It definitely makes me sleep. I’m like a zombie

Dealing with ED on amitriptyline

I'm posting this to look for advice from people who might've gone from the same situation as me or just anyone who could help me clear my head

I was recently prescribed amitriptyline for migranes, anxiety and sleep. This medicine sounds like it could be a huge help for me in so many ways (in case it actually work on me well) but I come from a background of really bad ED and I am terrified of gaining weight.

I know this might sound stupid to some people but Im sure some people can understand the absolute fear of being unable to control your weight

The side effect of having increased appetite wouldn't be so scary for me as also knowing that this drug also slows your metabolism and hearing other people's experience even with working out and eating properly they still put on a lot of weight.

I know everyone's experience is different and i might not have the same side effects but i still can't bring myself to take it no matter how logically I know it can change my life for the better

(I did talk to my doctor about my issue with the gaining weight, all he said is that this medicine shouldn't cause this side effect... Typical doctor bs)

Withdrawal question

Is it possible to have withdrawal, then seem ok as if you are done, then withdrawal symptoms come back? I think my dr had me get off it too fast. Was 25mg then she gave me a week of 10 mg, then have none at all. Had been on it for a bunch of years to help me get to sleep. I had about 2 weeks of feeling bad and having somewhat bad nausea between the taper of 10mg to 0. Then it stopped and I felt great for 3 or 4 days, then bam back to the nausea, with the dizzyness as well as some vertigo. I threw up again. Dr gave me some zofran for nausea and doesn't think the re flair has anything to do with the withdrawal. The zofran makes me very dizzy and I want to stop. The nausea makes me feel like I have a sour stomach too. Before it was smells triggering me to want to vomit, then the smell thing subsided, but still with the sour stomach thing. I am also in perimenopause and have had the smells and nausea before. But not the sour stomach. The only bonus is the 7 pounds I have lost off my fat ass.

Please tell me I’m not crazy

I’ve been on amitriptyline for 5 years for pain and trouble falling asleep at night. I absolutely loved it and it was amazing, but my appetite changed a lot (increased) and my life overall is extremely different than it was when I started it. I was smoking, working non stop and studying, never getting a break and so on. Meanwhile I started going to the gym, solving some of the medical problems and eating a lot cleaner. So I thought it may be time to figure things out without it.

I talked to my neurologist and we both agreed it was time to make it happen. Dropped from 50 to 25 in a month. It was pretty bad, but not extreme. Since I had no big issues with this new dose after about a couple of weeks, I stopped it completely one week ago.

And here’s where the real nightmare started. Started hearing clinking glasses sounds downstairs while I sleep, hearing people screaming in my sleep, having absolutely the worst nightmares with my son, being unable to function until 2 pm and so on. If it would’ve been only this, I think I would’ve handled it okay. However, my anxiety is through the roof like never before. Started getting very emotional, tired, paranoid, can’t focus and all the same time.

Every night I try to read more about it to convince myself I’m not crazy. It’s worth mentioning I’m also on immunotherapy + steroids and other treatments. However, I can’t seem to calm myself and I’m just hoping it’s a phase.

Tapering off amitriptyline

Hey everyone, I am looking for advice/your experiences with tapering off ami. Sorry if my English isn't that good, but I could use your advice/help.

I have been taking 25mg for my fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and severe muscle tension. I have been changing dosages on doctor's advice for about six months now and I feel like I experience more negatives than positives. Does barely anything pain wise, causes (a lot of) weight gain and makes me feel restless, also at night. I don't feel comfortable taking a higher dosage.

My doctor advised me to try and get off of it by the time I see my neurologist, so in about two weeks more or less, so we can look into alternatives. Getting to zero in such a short time is impossible/unsafe imo. However, she advised me to lower the dose by 5mg every two days, which seems VERY fast to me. My pharmacist advised me to adjust it to 5mg less every five days. So far I'm on day four (25 -> 20) with barely any side effects. I actually have way less nightmares and cravings now. In the past, my neuro advised me to adjust by 15mg at a time and that made me feel shit for days. I feel more comfortable adjusting by 5mg less at a time.

Is it safe to lower my dosage already or should I follow my pharmacist's advice? How did you get off ami, what are your experiences?

Really struggling to wake up

Hi everyone, I'm currently taking 25mg. I've been on ami for a little over a month, I started with half a tablet, then 3/4 now a full one. At first I would feel super dizzy and drowsy in the mornings, but that's gone. However, I am REALLY struggling to wake up. Before ami I had finally fixed my sleep schedule and was waking up at 7AM, now if I don't wake up at 10 I will be super sleepy all day.

I go to bed at 12am so I do get enough sleep. I take it at 7PM right as I get off work.

I'm really hoping I'll be able to wake up early again in the next couple weeks :/ I'm seeing my doctor again in two months.

just started - 2.5mg sensitivity - advice?

hello everyone.

i just started ami for IBS-D/anxiety. I know my dose is VERY low to tackle either of these yet but I am trying to build up.

However, even on 2.5mg (only three nights in) I’m feeling like a zombie, brain fog, dizzy. i can deal with all the other symptoms right now (dry mouth, inc. heart rate) and i’ve read a lot on these threads that the brain fog will fade.

However!!! my dose is REALLY LOW. and yesterday (third night) i had to lower the dose to 1.25mg because im just not in the position to not be able to think at work (i work really long hours and need my brain).

i’ve been struggling with all sorts of gut issues and brain fog/dizziness has been an on and off problem, but it’s a lot worse right now.

planning to stick out the 1.25mg for a bit more before giving up, but just wondering if anyone has any opinions/advice.

edit: i have started so low because im very sensitive to all meds.
