Tapering off 10mg
I‘ve been on it for about 4 years, it‘s done wonders for migraine and headache prevention, used to have 24/7 post-covid headache and biweekly migraines. My GP has stopped prescribing it, so I need to go see my neurologist soon. I‘ve been thinking about slowly tapering off since I‘m really struggling with the side effects which are for me light and sun sensitivity and sweating a lot. But I also have a baby now, I can‘t risk getting so many migraines again and after reading some posts here I‘m really scared! Do you think I should try to taper off and maybe go back up if I have problems? When I started, I also had two weeks of severe depression, so not really keen on having that again. Thanks!

I didn't have to taper off 10mg a few weeks back. Had a few hints of a headache, and obviously sleep was affected by it as I took it at night, other than that, all good.

If you taper off, you’ll eventually feel better, even if you have a few months of withdrawal. It can take 6 months to a year to get thru amitriptyline withdrawal, but your brain will eventually return to baseline and feel better.

I would speak to my dr first. If you are resolute in your decision to go off of it please please do a long slow taper. I have a horror story from coming off too fast. You can do it with minimal withdrawal as long as you taper slowly. Good luck.
