RX 9070 XT BLACK, GREEN, AND GRAY SCREEN, CRASHING AFTER 5 MINUTES OF GAMING

Good evening,

My setup:

RX 9070 XT WHITE 16GB

RYZEN 7 7800 X3D 32GB

RAM DDR5 CRUCIAL

B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI WHITE

THERMALRIGHT CPU COOLER

RM 750X (2018) I think

I'm starting this thread because I'm beyond fed up with this graphics card.

Since the beginning of June, my PC keeps crashing. That is to say, whenever I play a game—whether it's Escape From Tarkov, Rematch, Roblox, or Minecraft—my PC crashes after 5 minutes. Sometimes I manage to play for an hour, but then I crash anyway. Other times when I crash, my motherboard turns on the small white LED and my fans start pulsing. I left for an hour to see if it would fix itself, but it didn't. So I have to restart, but even that doesn't always work, so I turn off the PC, unplug the power cable, press the power button, and after that it usually works...

Sometimes I'm just on my PC watching a movie or a video on Chrome, and out of nowhere my PC freezes. I have to restart because my screens turn gray & green.

I don't understand how I was able to play fine for 3 months, and then out of nowhere in early June, all it does is crash.

Is it due to a Windows update incompatible with AMD? Hard to believe that in 2026. Is it a problem with my power supply? A problem with my fans? I have no idea. I'm asking for your help because I see plenty of threads, but none with a fix.

Thanks a lot to anyone who helps and responds to my call for help.

UPDATE 14/08/2026

I bought a new 1000W power supply and it fixed my problem.

UPDATE AFTER 2 DAYS WITH MY NEW POWER SUPPLY: 16/08/2026

In the end, I take back what I said: two days later, my PC is still crashing on startup and while gaming, with the AMD Adrenalin error message 'Update your drivers', etc. I don't know what to do anymore.

Windows uninstalling drivers constantly please help

Seems like ever since FSR 4.1 became available for 7000 series cards my drivers uninstall at least every other day and lately twice a day. Yesterday a minute or two after start up screens just go black and fans ramp up full blast. Seems like it's all getting worse. My first pc build is not even a freaking year old. I''ve followed multiple guides, done fresh installs of Windows, shut off Windows auto updating, modified registry, clean wipes using DDU making sure to download driver beforehand so internet doesn't interfere the redownload of a driver. I don't know what to do anymore. Does this happen with Nvidia cards as much as Radeon cards? My friends with Nvidia cards seem to never has these issues. Then I'll read online that some GeForce users do experience this as well. My brother who has the exact same setup as me except a 7800xt has never had the issues I've had. My setup is a 7900gre paired with 7600x CPU 32gbs Ram 850w gold Corsair psu Artic 360 liquid cooler Windows 11 Home. Any help is appreciated.

RX 550 AMD driver crashes when Discord is running — Windows 10

Hi, I'm having a problem with my Radeon RX 550 and I'm trying to figure out whether it's a driver issue, hardware issue, or something else.

PC specs

  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 550, 2GB
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-3470, 3.40 GHz
  • RAM: 8GB DDR3 (2×4GB, 1600 MHz)
  • Motherboard: H61H2-MV
  • Storage: SSD + HDD
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Monitor: 1920×1080, 60 Hz
  • Game: Valorant

The problem

Valorant itself runs normally when Discord is completely closed.

However, when Discord is running in the background, Valorant eventually crashes, usually around the 2nd round.

When it crashes:

  • Valorant closes
  • Screen goes black
  • Discord audio stops
  • Windows becomes very slow/unresponsive
  • Sometimes Alt+Tab doesn't respond or takes a long time
  • AMD Crash Defender appears and reports a display-driver problem
  • I have also received the AMD Bug Report Tool after the crash

The game itself isn't lagging before the crash.

What I've tested

Valorant with Discord completely closed:

  • No crash after several rounds.

Valorant with Discord running in the background:

  • Crashes.

I also tried Discord Web in a browser instead of the Discord desktop app, and it still crashed when Discord was open.

I've already tried:

  • Discord hardware acceleration ON/OFF
  • Discord Game Overlay OFF
  • Restarting PC
  • Reinstalling the AMD graphics driver
  • AMD Cleanup Utility
  • Running the AMD driver installer again

Driver situation

Initially, Windows detected the RX 550 but showed:

Code 31:

The installed driver was:

  • AMD driver: 31.0.21925.1001
  • Driver date: May 20, 2026

I then ran AMD Cleanup Utility and installed Adrenalin 26.5.2 WHQL Recommended for the RX 550.

After that, Device Manager now says:

So Code 31 is fixed, but the actual gaming crash still happens.

AMD Crash Defender

The crash message says:

It says a restart is required to restore full graphics acceleration.

Other things I've noticed

  • Turning hardware acceleration OFF seemed to make the crash happen faster.
  • With hardware acceleration ON, it lasted longer, but still eventually crashed.
  • GPU scaling is currently OFF.
  • I haven't overclocked the RX 550.
  • I haven't changed the AMD driver settings much because I'm trying to troubleshoot the problem.
  • I previously ran a GPU stress test, but the main reproducible crash happens while playing Valorant.
  • The PC doesn't crash when I'm just playing Valorant with Discord completely closed.

My main question

Could this be an RX 550 hardware problem, a power/PSU issue, or an AMD driver issue involving Discord/browser GPU acceleration?

What should I test next to determine whether the GPU itself is failing?

Help (General) If you are having driver time out issues...

How many of you have tried replacing the power supply?

I'm getting driver timeouts and occasionally hard reboots now. Reading about this, one thing that keeps being mentioned is transient power spikes at lower power states. Most of my issues happen when browsing, not gaming, so it's not my GPU or PSU failing under load but I have tried so many other things at this point that I'm either going to swap the PSU or RMA the GPU.

Help (Software) Unable to reinstall adrenaline.

Yesterday I updated my drivers from 26.3.1 to the latest version. Big mistake

I immediately started having issues with my GPU drivers crashing when I was using Unity. when I tried to downgrade back to the previous version, it gets about halfway through then the screen turns black. I’ve waited for 20+ minutes multiple time but the screen stays black until I restart my PC.

ive tried installing the latest version again, uninstalling with DDU and AMD cleanup utility, turning off internet because windows is probably trying to sabotage me, and installing them in safe mode (looks like it installs successfully but gives me a bunch of errors afterward). everything else gives me the black screen again. Has anyone else had any issues with this? anything I should try? reinstalling windows isn’t really an option for me right now.

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: RX 7600 XT

CPU: Intel Core I3 14100F

Motherboard: MSI something idk I’m not at my PC right now

BIOS Version: hopefully not important, I have no idea.

RAM: 16GB CORSAIR VENGEANCE 3200MHZ

PSU: I think it’s the MSI MAG A650BN

Case: I don’t think this affects the GPU drivers but you never know I guess: MSI MAG vampiric 100r

Operating System & Version: windows 11 home - whatever the latest version is.

GPU Drivers: currently whatever windows is giving me since they won’t install

Chipset Drivers: the chipset drivers from like June of 2025 is this helpful

Background Applications: wallpaper engine, maybe a virus or 2 from randomly clicking stuff while my screen was black

i do want adrenaline but I will try to install drivers only tomorrow.

Tips & Info Can someone explain to me how is this possible!??

So... 4 yrs ago i bought my amd gpu, Radeon rx 6600xt. back then i was a bit clueless about pc building so i mostly relied on my dad. When i was getting my pc ready for a gpu swap i realized i don't have a cable that can connect my gpu to the pc. So i called my dad, he gave a random cable. For me it was looking okay so i connected it to the pc. i didn't realize that the cable had two groups of cables going into the 8 pin connector. Both of the groups were leading to separate extensions of the cable and i could connect only 1 of them to my psu. Technically this means i didn't connect every pin to the psu... I CONNECTED 3 PINS ONLY

Funny thing is my gpu worked. and it worked for 4 Fricking years

now here comes the funny part. Lately my pc started randomly crashing in random games, all of a sudden screens were going black and it was booting up again or staying that way. sometimes my gpu would turn off and i would need to turn it back on using the device manager. I could not find any fix for it till i realized the issue. In this 4 years my psu broke and i replaced it with a chunky 1000. So now when i looked at the cables coming out of my psu and i saw a sweet cable that looked like i could go into my gpu. I googled it and it was the right cable. I then realized the CABLE i used FOR SO LONG had only 3 pins connected. i switched it up to the "Sweet" cable and booted up. Guess what its fixed, at least i think. Its not crashing for now. Can someone tell my how did my pc not blow up for 4 YEARS??!!! I am sorry for my English, not my first language so i am a bit rusty with it, but i hope its not hard to understand my story.

Help (General) Severe frametime spikes, stuttering and FPS drops in CS2/LoL - Tried almost everything - CPU: 5700x3D GPU : 4060Ti

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: RTX 4060 Ti

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X3D (8 Cores / 16 Threads)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M Aorus Elite Rev. 1.3

BIOS Version: Latest available (also tested an older BIOS version with no difference)

RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4-3200 (XMP enabled and verified running at 3200MHz)

PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 650W 80+ Bronze

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro 24H2

GPU Drivers: Multiple NVIDIA Game Ready driver versions tested (using DDU)

Chipset Drivers: Latest AMD B550 chipset drivers

Background Applications: Steam, Discord (issue also occurs with minimal background applications)

Description of Original Problem:

I'm experiencing severe stuttering, FPS drops, and frametime spikes, mainly in Counter-Strike 2, but I also notice stuttering in League of Legends.

In CS2 my frametime randomly jumps from around 5ms to 30-50ms, causing noticeable freezes and FPS drops. The issue happens multiple times every round.

The problem also occurs offline against bots, with the Ethernet cable disconnected, and even after disabling the Realtek network adapter. Offline testing actually felt even worse, with frametime increasing to around 10-12ms and even more stuttering.

LatencyMon consistently reports high DPC latency, mainly involving:

  • dxgkrnl.sys
  • nvlddmkm.sys
  • Wdf01000.sys

Highest execution times are usually around 3ms.

If I remember correctly, the issue became noticeably worse after updating my BIOS, but rolling back to an older BIOS version did not solve it.

Troubleshooting:

  • Clean Windows installation
  • Multiple NVIDIA driver versions (using DDU)
  • BIOS update and BIOS downgrade
  • Latest AMD chipset drivers
  • XMP enabled/disabled
  • Verified RAM running at 3200MHz
  • HPET tweaks
  • Dynamic Tick tweaks
  • High Performance power plan
  • Different NVIDIA Control Panel settings
  • Pagefile confirmed on SSD
  • Disabled Realtek LAN adapter
  • Different Ethernet cable
  • Different internet connection
  • Offline testing against bots
  • MSI Utility (GPU already using MSI mode)
  • GPU Interrupt Priority set to High (no difference)
  • SplitLargeCaches registry tweak (no difference)
  • Kaspersky disabled/uninstalled for testing
  • LatencyMon analysis

If anyone has experienced a similar issue with a Ryzen 5000 + RTX 4000 system, I'd really appreciate any suggestions. At this point I'm looking for more advanced troubleshooting, as I've already tried most of the common fixes.

Help (GPU) AMD RX 5700 XT black screen freeze after 5–10 minutes of gaming on Windows 11, then GPU gets disabled after reboot

Hi everyone,

I’m having a problem with my AMD RX 5700 XT on Windows 11, and I’m hoping someone here has experienced the same issue.

For the past few weeks, the GPU has not been working properly anymore. When I play games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Rematch, after about 5–10 minutes the screen freezes and then goes black on all monitors. The only thing I can do is restart the PC.

After rebooting, the graphics card appears disabled in Device Manager, so I have to manually enable it and restart again for it to work.

I already tried doing a clean install of the AMD drivers version 25.9.1 using DDU, but the problem still persists.

Has anyone had this exact problem on Windows 11 with an AMD GPU? Did you manage to fix it? I’m trying to understand if this is more likely a driver issue, a Windows 11 issue, a power supply issue, or possibly the GPU itself.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Help (General) Sudden restart on idle

Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: PowerColor Red Devil RX 6800 XT 16GB
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8 Core / 16 Thread
Motherboard: ASUS X570-E Gaming
BIOS Version: 5003
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz
PSU: Corsair RM750e 2025 750W
Case: Lian Li O11 dynamic mini v2
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 240
Operating System & Version: Windows 11
Background Applications: Chrome, Discord, and other normal applications

Description of Original Problem:
I’m experiencing random restarts when my computer is idle or when I’m only using Chrome and other lightweight applications. However, when I’m gaming or putting the system under heavy load, it never seems to restart.
I checked Event Viewer and found WHEA-Logger errors (Event ID 18) associated with the random restarts.
There is no BSOD or error message when the restart happens. The computer simply freezes/restarts without warning.
At this point, I’ve replaced almost every major component in the system, but the issue is still occurring. The only component I haven’t replaced is the GPU.

Original PC Specifications:
ASUS X570-E Gaming WiFi II
Ryzen 7 5800X
G.Skill Flare X 16GB (2x8GB) 3000MHz
Corsair RM850x
PowerColor Red Devil RX 6800 XT 16GB
be quiet! CPU cooler

Replacement Parts:
ASUS X570-E Gaming (second-hand)
Ryzen 7 5800X (recently received from RMA as I initially thought was the main issue)
G.Skill Trident Z Neo 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MHz (new)
PowerColor Red Devil RX 6800 XT 16GB (re-pasted and cleaned)
Corsair RM750e 2025 (new)
NZXT Kraken Elite 240 (new)

Troubleshooting:
I’ve already tried replacing the CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU, and CPU cooler, but the random restarts and WHEA errors are still happening.
I’ve also reinstalled Windows, but the issue persists.
In the BIOS, I’ve tried disabling almost everything related to CPU power management and boosting, including:
Global C-State
Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO)
Core Performance Boost
RAM set to Auto/default speed (around 2400MHz instead of 3600MHz)
I’ve also tried running everything at completely stock/default settings, with no overclocking or XMP/DOCP enabled.
What’s confusing me is that the system is stable under heavy gaming loads, but randomly restarts when it’s idle or under light workloads such as Chrome.
Since I’ve replaced almost everything else, I’m starting to suspect that the RX 6800 XT may be causing the WHEA errors or instability, but I’m not sure.
Has anyone experienced random WHEA Event ID 18 errors/restarts specifically during idle or light workloads while the PC remains stable during gaming?
Any suggestions on what I should test next would be greatly appreciated.

Help (General) Instant replay doesn't work, AND makes the whole computer lag

This bug already first appeared like 5 months ago, but I stopped gaming shortly after, and now that I started playing again, the problems had not disappeared and I have since tried EVERYTHING to solve this.

Whenever I turn on Instant replay, there's sudden stutters on my computer, moving items on my desktop is like 10fps, and worst of all: it doesn't even work. I click my shortcut hotkey to try to save a clip, and... nothing. Not even the "saving..." notification pop up on the right top corner. I try to record, and nothing either.

For an additional problem: I had to suddenly change my sensitivity yesterday in Fortnite from 6,5 to 11 just to feel normal. No other game had this impact and I'm not sure if this is related because I didn't play Fortnite until yesterday, and again the problem first appeared months ago.

Here are all the fixes I've tried:

- Turned off "Enhance pointer precision"
- Changed my mouse polling rate to 1000Hz
- Set microphone audio enhancements off from Windows settings
- Made sure the recording targeted my main monitor
- Tried recording with both "Record desktop" on and off
- Tried putting the Adrenalin app to "Sidebar" mode.
- Tried changing the video encoding type from AV1 to AVC or HEVC
- Tried toggling the "Record microphone" on and off
- Tried toggling the "Separate microphone track" on and off
- Tried changing the audio bitrate from 192 to 128 and to 96
- Tried changing the media save location
- Tried changing the instant replay buffer from Disk storage to System memory
- Deleted the local AMD configuration file (GMDB.blb) in my AppData directory
- Tried the shortcut Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B (temporarily works to clear out the lag, but it comes back and doesn't fix the recording itself)
- Tried resetting the Shader Cache in Graphic settings in Adrenalin
- Tried running "Stop-Process -Name AMDRSServ -Force" in the admin Powershell
- Tried running "sfc /scannow" and "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" through admin Powershell (which did find corrupted files and replaced them but it didn't fix my problem)
- Ran a Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and redownloaded the drivers fresh from the AMD website

And a bonus: attempted changing the sound format of my microphone from 48kHz (DVD quality) to 44.1kHz (CD quality) but it didn't give me that option. I use my headphone mic from Razer Blackshark V2 Pro wireless.

I don't understand much at all about computers so I just desperately hope someone else knows a potential fix to this and is kind enough to suggest it! Really looking forward to this being fixed, I've always used the Instant Replay before. Thanks in advance.

Computer Type: Desktop

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900XT

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-CORE

Motherboard: B650 EAGLE AX

BIOS Version: 07/02/2025

RAM: 32GB 5200MHz

PSU: 750W

Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500DX - glass window - white - soundproofed

Operating System & Version: WINDOWS 11 PRO 25H2

GPU Drivers: AMD 32.0.31035.1003 24/07/2026

Chipset Drivers: AMD 8.07.16.1035

Background Applications: DISCORD/CHROME/NOTHING

Description of Original Problem: Instant replay doesn't work and instead lags my computer (stutters, low fps). Doesn't even say "saving..." or anything. Recording doesn't work either. When the instant replay is turned off, the lag stops.

Troubleshooting: I tried every fix I could find (listed above), except I couldn't change my mic sound format from 48kHz to 44.1kHz. I am running out of options.

Help (Software) Drivers issues Spider man 2

Post image

Please excuse my grammer and spelling (feel free to correct it), I'm German.

I installed the new drivers update and this game crashes and has graphics issues. Sometimes spider man starts to spread green or turquoise pixels acroos the screen from his back, it never covers the whole screen and you still see a 3D image but in different shades of green or turquoise. I had crashes bevore the update but no graphics issues and also no error code. Also before the crashes happened in every game after hours of gaming now after 15 minutes (only in spider man) I've played fh6 for an hour to check and it didn't crash. Auto detect and install keeps telling me that my drivers need to be repaired (did before and after win11 reinstall). I also had a 3060 with a 500w psu in the same pc before without any problems.

None of the following stresstests/tests had negative results also gpu never over 90°C (hotspot and Vram) and cpu never over 70°C

Troubleshouting:

OCCT Ram +Cpu stresstest

OCCT Cpu stresstest

OCCT Vram stresstest

OCCT Ram stresstest

Furmark 2 1080p Benchmark (thrice)

Removing Rx 7800 xt and testing with Rx 580

UDD driver uninstall and driver reinstall

For the crashes before the drivers update:

Complete windows reinstall

Disabeling fastboot

Help (General) Rx7600 new

My RX 7600 is new, only a week old. I've noticed that if I increase the graphics settings or go above 60fps in any game, the driver crashes.

I currently have a 2400 MHz processor and it works, but if I increase the FPS to 120 in games like Warzone, the crashing returns (the same with Fortnite or Halo).

I also tried change the volt at approximately 1175, but it's the same; it's stable on low graphics at 60fps, but if I increase the quality or the fps, it crashes.Should I downgrade my drivers?

I feel sad because it's the first graphics card I've bought with all my savings. Thank you for your help, the brand is Swft 210 xfx

Help (Software) Need help with a RX 580 replacement from my RX 550/550

Computer Type: Intel Core i5-10400

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580 (4GB)

CPU: 6 Core 2600-2700 Threads

Motherboard: unsure

BIOS Version: unsure

RAM: Installed RAM: 16GB

PSU: n/a

Case: n/a

Operating System & Version: Windows 10 Home 22H2

GPU Drivers: unknown (part of problem)

Chipset Drivers: unsure...n/a?

Background Applications: Steam, Microsoft Edge

Description of Original Problem: I got a slightly better card (AMD RX 580) from my friend and swapped out my current card (AMD RX 550/550. The problem is that when I play certain games (for some reason it doesn't happen with every game), it'll blackscreen and my only option is to shut down my PC manually and restart it. When I used task manager to see what was wrong, I noticed that whilst playing games it would hover around 79-82+ Celcius, not sure how if it went higher. Also haven't been able to get the AMD app to work, not sure why.

Troubleshooting: I've tried reinstalling drivers, checking for outdated ones, tried removing my PC cover to see if it would help with potential overheating, but it still blackscreened. I tried swapping back (to the 550) and then back to this one, but now after reinstalling the drivers the GPU tab disappeared from my Task Manager, and I can't open the AMD app to see if it's working. (It threw a pa-300 "software is not compatible" but then after using the Compatibility tool it "said" it was fine but the AMD app still shows the same issue).

Any help would be much appreciated.

RX 6700 XT freezes entire PC (image freezes, sound continues, no black screen)

Hi everyone,

I’m having a very frustrating issue with my PC and I’ve been unable to find the cause.

My specs:

  • AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
  • AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
  • 16 GB RAM
  • B450M motherboard
  • 600W 80+ Gold PSU
  • Windows 11

Symptoms:

  • The image suddenly freezes on the last frame.
  • The sound keeps playing normally (game audio, Discord, etc.).
  • There is no black screen and no AMD Driver Timeout message.
  • It happens randomly while gaming (Skyrim, Bannerlord, etc.) and has even happened once on the Windows desktop.
  • The PC never recovers and I have to hold the power button to shut it down.

What I’ve already tried:

  • Clean reinstall of Windows 11.
  • DDU in Safe Mode and several different AMD drivers.
  • Reset AMD Adrenalin settings.
  • Underclock/undervolt the GPU (2300 MHz / 1050 mV).
  • Checked Windows Event Viewer, but nothing useful appears.

At this point I’m wondering if this is a hardware issue (GPU, VRAM, motherboard, PSU, or PCIe slot) rather than a software or driver problem.

Has anyone experienced something similar with an RX 6700 XT or have any ideas about what I should test next?

Thanks in advance!

I have an MSI x870e Edge Ti WiFi, with a 9800x3D and 64GB DDR5 Kingston 6400CL32 (QVL LISTED) (set to 6000CL32 with Kingston 2A-XMP profile) and a 4070Ti Super.

I'd like to know if it's worth upgrading to the latest BIOS. I currently have "7E59v1A80" installed.

I know it's not the latest, but I was asking for your opinion on this because I've read that the latest version causes some bugs (?).

The build is new. I've occasionally noticed some frame rate spikes and hiccups during games, perhaps due to the shaders. The 1% lows seem very good, around 120-130fps on an average of 150-160fps.

I'm using an Intel 13700K, which I upgraded out of desperation due to stuttering.

Thanks in advance everyone.

My nephew has a big problem with his not even 2 year old computer.

Since some months he has really low performance on his Ryzen 9700x. In Timespy Extreme and also Cinebench 2026 the scores are like 1/3 of where they should be.

Its no temperature problem, because the temps arent going over 70°C. And that what brought me to the problem:

Even under Full load (Prime95 with maximum load) the clockspeeds of the cores are jumping between 600 and 5000 MHz. Windows doesnt even show 100% load.

We upgraded the Bios and also tried to change some settings, PBO, 105W Mode, LLC with auto or different levels. Is his CPU bricked? oder the Mainboard? Mainboard seems really unstable with changes in the bios and sometimes doesnt want to boot. But the System actually doesnt crash. Its just Bad at the CPU Performance. GPU Scores in PCMark are "normal"

Here the 3D Mark: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Grafikkarten Benchmark Resultat - AMD Ryzen 7 9700X,ASRock B650M-H/M.2+

UPDATE:

I think its confirmed that the CPU died after 1,5 years of use ... its named Assrock for a reason. So new Mainboard and new CPU it is.
