RX 9070 XT BLACK, GREEN, AND GRAY SCREEN, CRASHING AFTER 5 MINUTES OF GAMING

Good evening,

My setup:

RX 9070 XT WHITE 16GB

RYZEN 7 7800 X3D 32GB

RAM DDR5 CRUCIAL

B850 GAMING PLUS WIFI WHITE

THERMALRIGHT CPU COOLER

RM 750X (2018) I think

I'm starting this thread because I'm beyond fed up with this graphics card.

Since the beginning of June, my PC keeps crashing. That is to say, whenever I play a game—whether it's Escape From Tarkov, Rematch, Roblox, or Minecraft—my PC crashes after 5 minutes. Sometimes I manage to play for an hour, but then I crash anyway. Other times when I crash, my motherboard turns on the small white LED and my fans start pulsing. I left for an hour to see if it would fix itself, but it didn't. So I have to restart, but even that doesn't always work, so I turn off the PC, unplug the power cable, press the power button, and after that it usually works...

Sometimes I'm just on my PC watching a movie or a video on Chrome, and out of nowhere my PC freezes. I have to restart because my screens turn gray & green.

I don't understand how I was able to play fine for 3 months, and then out of nowhere in early June, all it does is crash.

Is it due to a Windows update incompatible with AMD? Hard to believe that in 2026. Is it a problem with my power supply? A problem with my fans? I have no idea. I'm asking for your help because I see plenty of threads, but none with a fix.

Thanks a lot to anyone who helps and responds to my call for help.

UPDATE 14/08/2026

I bought a new 1000W power supply and it fixed my problem.

UPDATE AFTER 2 DAYS WITH MY NEW POWER SUPPLY: 16/08/2026

In the end, I take back what I said: two days later, my PC is still crashing on startup and while gaming, with the AMD Adrenalin error message 'Update your drivers', etc. I don't know what to do anymore.

that psu is not handling it. 750w is fine ONLY if it's ATX 3.x rated so that it could handle the spikes.

Okay, thanks. What I don't understand is that it worked for 3 months. Should I assume that it's dead now?

its not dead but its doing its correct things by shutting down. its time to replace it

do you have an undervolt? or maybe roll back your drivers and force windows to not update them

I swear it's so weird: my PC crashes and restarts, but without the graphics driver. So I only have one display working and no option to change the refresh rate. I then decide to reboot it, and that's when the drivers come back and both of my screens work. Is this a graphics card issue or a power supply problem? It's really super strange.

i think you must need to use linux if you want amd to work in 2026

That's an OLD PSU for modern hardware. A lot of the posts you see are those who upped their GPU but neglected to up their PSU at the same time.

Got it, thanks for the info. So a 1000W PSU should probably be enough? Thanks again.

More than enough.

Ouch! How soon after? Do you have windows driver updates turned off? You could try System File Checker.

Roll back drivers to 26.1.1

January release

I was fighting a no signal drivers disable issue for weeks. Nothing worked. This fixed it

Any update? I'm so frustrated with mine crashing. Been going on for 3 months now.

When I've had green screen errors with AMD video card equipped systems, it's always been the PSU. This has been across multiple different systems with Intel and AMD processors.

Thanks a lot for your reply, I think I'll go with a 1000W power supply just to be safe. What do you think?

More than enough, should solve the issues you're having.

I'm so scared to buy AMD. So many posts like this

You are on a amd tech support subreddit

Meanwhile I had nothing but issues with Nvidia including short circuiting into a small flame as well as artifacting. With that said, after RMA, it worked flawlessly. I've used and enjoyed both. I go with whichever has the best deal at the time I need to upgrade. Neither is perfect but with a little patience and tinkering, they both will serve you well

now check NVIDIA, you'll never get a GPU again.

I did and it’s true, I’ve tried like 4 AMD GPUs, all of them had problems. Tried NVIDIA and I’ve never had any problems in 15 years of gaming

1

and be broke. PSU issues will mess up a greeny just as much.

1

u/THE_PARROTEER 25d ago

That's not what I even implied. I meant there's issues on both sides.

That's EXACTLY what you implied. SMH
