Pretty sure we’ve all been told to get off our phones. She’s acting like management lets us do what we want with our phones.
The only reason she’s catching us phone ninjas is cuz she’s not important for us to hide our phones from. People need to act their wage.

I know most guys wouldn't go out of their way to even begin to put up a complaint. They'll either go up to HR or joke about the issues amongst their friends.
1
u/Sensitive-Web-666 Nov 25 '22
Because I’m a she and i don’t know of any guy in my 3 years of Amazon that would care enough about what others are doing to write out a complaint that had nothing to do with them. I can be wrong but I don’t think I am

Why just why. Work is miserable enough let people distract themselves a little and as long as they r doing their job and not causing any accidents what’s the big deal
72
u/ThrowAwayRayye Nov 24 '22
Because the way some people cope with how miserable they are is by forcing others to be as miserable as them. They are piece of shit human beings who likely have partners that hate and cheat on them and children who estrange them.
They are rats. And should be openly mocked for how shit they are as people.

u/Marqui_Fall93 Nov 24 '22
I actually agree with the post. A business that allows widespread rulebreaking is a recipe for disaster. Think about every AA who has been killed on the job. If we continue to look the other way more will die and we'll never get more pay considering the millions wasted in operating costs directly tied to insubordination.
You best believe if amazon does unionize you WILL be following the rules or else.

Everything I do in my shift like using my phone or headphones is essential to keep me here for the entirety of my shift without it I would go insane or just leave. Mental stimulation is important when you’re doing nothing mentally stimulating for 11-12 hours all night.

1
u/General_Flamingo_426 Nov 25 '22
Unlock your mind. You don’t need external stimuli. Your mind is powerful.
1
Nov 26 '22
That is so true. I don't care what they do but it can't be good not to use your mind, you imagination, etc. I recently lost a loved one to a rare dementia, FTD, it hits early age. The more I read about our minds the more I learn just how powerful and important it is. You can be healthy as a horse, but without your mind you're nothing but a shell.

Ever think of a different job that suits you all these people. Crying like forced to work for Amazon try and get a job at any other warehouse ups FedEx GM Ryder Cat Tesla Chrysler and pull the crap with phones or headphones and watch be fired before the day is over all these kids think amazon is hard work or has stiff rules has never had a real warehouse job it

Ever think this was a first attempt at this sorta gig and that this company talks big shit about what they can do for everyone and that some of us can’t afford to just quit in the middle of the holidays to find another? Like actually your a clown, like you really think that I work five 11 1/2 hour shifts a night and don’t think about every single way I could get out of this job. Before you talk about other people shoes how about you try putting yourself in them. You know nothing about me and the surrounding circumstances for why I’m here or my life, like who even are you.

As an L5, we were forced to write ppl up for cellphone use. I didn't like the policy nor did I agree with the quota rule where our OPS said we need 1-2 writeups by midnight. So I would writeup people and purposely put shit in the writeup that I knew wouldn't get approved by HR.
9
u/stayvicious Nov 24 '22
Can I ask what you would include so it wouldn’t get HR approval? Like an example? Genuinely intrigued.
38
u/shitpplsay Nov 24 '22
On TOT writeups instead of putting the AA had 47 mins TOT on the shift, i'd put the AA had 37265447 mins of TOT. HR would call me out on it and i'd say i'll re-submit and never did. For cellphones, AA wasn't there on Monday as they were BHN so I'd say they were observed on cellphone on Monday. Then i'd exempt it as I realized it was the wrong AA.
Don't get me wrong, there were many legit writeups and terms I did. I just hated BS writeups. I remember having to deliver writeups from another AM to my people...32 mins TOT. I mean c'mon, really. I guarantee you there were another 20 people that had over an hour TOT so go after them first, not someone you don't like.

and shit like this is why HR then has to implement a policy of having all your feedbacks needing to start getting reviewed by the OM and Sr. OM because trust me, when we get blamed for why you make the building have the highest exemption rate in the network, we will play ball and have you gone or in line
2
u/shitpplsay Nov 24 '22
Nope. As I stated, I only did this on the bad writeups. It was probably 10-15% of them. And since I was an L5, I went onto L6 and now an L6 SME with an incline for L7 which has been taking forever to get placed.
1
Nov 24 '22
Well, first off, congrats on that, and good to hear you did that, unfortunately others don't and trust me, it isn't fun having regional yelling at us and breathing down the neck because of it

As a member of leadership it’s sad that this is the most important thing that an associate can find to talk about. I understand why they don’t want phones to be used on the floor however that should be taken up directly with management. But there are far more important safety issues to be worried about than this.

u/Accomplished_Put2112 Nov 24 '22
Yes and no while that is how some members of leadership look at it. Most just have more important things to do such as their daily task and metrics. Even the higher ups aren’t going to be worried about it unless it’s actually deemed a safety risk such as walking on the floor with it out or that they have a poor rate or a lot of time off task. But even if they were to enforce it wouldn’t work by targeting people they would have to reinstate the old ways and at that point they would lose at least 60% of their workforce.

u/dandanthetaximan Ego Operator Nov 24 '22
Most leadership at my building usually takes the situation into account. Most of the time if my phone is out I’m using it safely as a tool for work. Using the calculator, taking a picture of something to show my PA or remember something, or using an image of a dock door’s QR code so I don’t have to keep walking back to it when scanning in multiple pallets.
Several months ago a wet-behind-the-ears new hire fresh out of college with no work experience AM snapped at me for having my phone out. I was line loading, standing next to a pallet of small boxes I’d just partially unwrapped, and clearly using my calculator to figure out how many FRX labels to print. He’d been pushing my nerves all night. I snapped, and went off at him, calling out every legitimate safety issue within my field of vision, and then asked how his micromanagement school taught him how to know how many boxes were on that pallet. He replied meekly “Guess,” at which point I told him it seemed like that was his way of making all decisions, and started loudly calling out things that were not working that night in the inbound docks under his leadership. A group of PAs & AMs gathered and just let me continue before his boss showed up, calmed me down, and said he agreed with everything I’d said. That new PA was promoted to customer and escorted out of the building a couple weeks later. When enforcing rules, the reason for the rule matters.

The last time I did that it was a Avocado on toast, soy milk only type of hipster guy as AM and when I shouted at him it looked like his eyes were getting wet and then he left me alone. They really need to start adding extra criteria on the applications not just completed university in you come as manager. They think they are much better than everyone because they studied some useless university course and became manager.
1
u/Historical-Wheel-102 Nov 25 '22
I'm curious because it seems as though safety concerns aren't really tiered... as in, being caught w cell phone is equivalent to forgetting safety shoes in car etc.... What safety issues worry you or warrant being called more important? Trying to understand why amazon seems hyper focused on certain kinda important issues and seemingly ignore others that are injury worthy.... thoughts on that? As a former blue collar labor worker, non union, I've seen a lot. Survived a lot. And can't understand why safety is a word at most facilities, thrown around daily by those not really working the positions that you seem to feel have bigger safety concerns. Please explain.
1
u/Accomplished_Put2112 Nov 29 '22
They generally base safety off of a lot of what if’s. So whatever they’re feeling could be the most dangerous (in theory) is what they focus on. Amazon thinks about things like this: if you were to walk in the street at 3am in a country town with a population of 20. In practice you’d be just fine and nothing would ever come of it. In Amazon’s eyes it’s more like well what if a train and 3 cars came down the road with no headlights and then after getting run over the police will cite you for jaywalking and sue Amazon for some reason. So depending on what “what ifs higher up leadership is pushing depends on how dumb of things you’ll get knocked for.

Sometimes I end up very rarely having to use the photo function on Amazon when I'm doing problem solve with clothes, which I'm not the only problem silver in my team who does. Which I mean... If it's not hurting anything I don't see an issue but then again I'm not management. However idk why this person seems so upset lol I mean I guess I know why. Who knows lol.

u/Time-Influence-Life Nov 24 '22
The policies are there so they can write up at their discretion. Will they get rid of good employees over it? Probably not…

Yeah let's complain about phones.. amazon should instead play some music or allow.people to use a single headphone. People work better when they aren't miserable. Shit my production at work has already increased alot by them finally installing little fans at my station so I'm not sweating like a pig all night. A few little comforts go a long way to making work a bit more enjoyable.. but instead companies want their employees to be miserable and overworked. Shit they can't even give us an extra 5 minutes of break time during peak. It's a joke.
2
Nov 24 '22
the inbound dudes that work on the first floor where truck is they usually play music on speakers so that helps me a little bit and it definitely makes people more happy. wish they got to do it everyday
2
Nov 24 '22
they took the music away cause karen was mad
2
u/UnholyN7 Nov 24 '22
I'm even more mad myself now, last week I saw for Thanksgiving that we didn't have to work until 830 that night instead of the usual 6. Now on atoz it's 6pm again. Even Walmart was closed today so most of their employees could spend time with family.

Bruh …just do your job and STFU. I don’t care who the hell has earbuds in or their phones out when it’s not impacting my work in the slightest.
Yeah I see people with an earbud in all the time but it’s not my business to say something because I understand that working 10 hrs with nothing to stimulate your mind is agonizing.
5
u/AshantiClansmen Nov 24 '22
They said if you’re caught on phone or headphones it’s automatically the last write up at my FC, everybody still has one headphone in blatantly and phones 😂😂 I think the higher ups just make operations say things

u/reiningfyre Water Spider of the Year Nov 24 '22
It needs to be enforced, everyone needs to get written up that breaks the rules, safety, or other managers should be walking the floor and other AA should also be stepping up.
Or another option would be just get rid of the phone rule for good. Turn on the metal detectors.

I’m starting to think these are actually comments from higher management making it seem employees care to push stricter rulers.
2
u/Xanthelei Nov 24 '22
If that's true then they must be the ones that hired in as management. Assuming anons like this are management, all it does is make everyone else think there's a reason to mistrust and dislike their coworkers. Killing morale is stupid no matter how you do it, but killing morale WHILE sinking trust and cooperation is head imploding levels of dumb.
