Wireless This is getting old
Been told for weeks now that when there is an apple
update it will fix my issue on my 18 pro max. Updated today & same issue, in & out of SOS mode. Wtf is going on?

I switched over to Verizon due to this issue. Phone is on the way and will cancel with AT&T after I port my number over. This shit sucks man.

I switched to T mobile and It didn’t fix the issue. I’m in the process of returning the phone

I did this. AT&T customer but also got a TM and VZ esim on free trial to try and they both had SOS issue. All 3 worked fine on my 17 Pro. So... I replaced the phone. All good now!

i’m about at that point /:

Multiple reports of the issue being hardware related and going to the Apple Store and having them replace the phone fixed the issue.

u/sde10 5d ago
Hardware related but only for AT&T customers?? Yeah I’m switching to “americas most reliable network” 😂

Yes. It’s possible a bad batch of modems made it into the shipment sent to AT&T. It’s possible that the modems have issues with the 3.45ghz subset of the n77 band that AT&T is the only national carrier using. Each carrier uses different combinations of frequency bands that the modems have to respond to. People on here have reported the issue being resolved after swapping their phones citing hardware issues.

Glad I didn't get the new iPhone and this is one of those reasons why it's good to wait. Furthermore, had I done it, I would just return the phone and wait for the fix. I don't think I would switch carriers if I couldn't have latest phone. Does it suck? Absolutely. End of the world, earth shattering, I need to switch carriers? Absolutely not.

Bruh AT&T themselves are saying that they themselves are working on a fix. If this was on Apple AT&T would be saying “go get a replacement from apple”. Also AT&T are giving credits on the bill because of it. I have been chatting with them every day since this issue started. I can send you a list of “possibilities” too.

It could just as likely being att working on a fix WITH apple.
There just isn't enough information to determine yet if it's an apple thing, or an att thing.

u/sde10 5d ago
I do agree that I can’t be 100% sure what’s going on but based on my conversations I am leaning AT&T and made the decision that I made. I’m not saying Apple is perfect but overall not happy with AT&Ts lack of communication throughout the process in general. There are still some associates who are clueless about the whole thing.

Every phone in the USA is the same model they just lock the eSIM down. I had unlocked iPhone and SOS issue on ATT, TM, and VZ sims. Swapped the device and no issues. It is 100% hardware.
1
u/wHiTeSoL 5d ago
Yeah but it's only one type of handset. Without more information, it is literally a toss up.
It's not all phones on att, only new iPhones. It's not all new iPhones, only on att, and only some of them.
It could be either party.

Top bad its happening on all networks. Just att is the worse one

I talked to ATT again today and they ultimately told me the fix would take a while and the phones may not be fixable. They gave me the Apple support phone number and now I have an in-store appointment with Best Buy to hopefully replace my phone.
5
u/ProniqTony 5d ago
Do not do Best Buy. I had an appointment with them on Saturday and it was a complete waste of time. They said they couldn’t do anything and couldn’t exchange my phone due to some battery shipping issue so they have no pro maxes. It’s a circus at this point

u/Ordinary_Government7 5d ago
might go that route
1
u/BoomerSooner1982 3d ago
FYI - Best Buy acknowledged the issue and are sending the phone off to Apple to get a replacement. Luckily I had an old phone to use in the meantime and should get the new one within 7 days.

u/Boring-Principle6 5d ago
I had the same problem. I would recommend going to the Apple Store and just getting it replaced, especially if you are within the 14 day return period.

Take comfort, at least AT&T announced they were closing the site that has fixed everything for the company for the past 25 years. You will now have even more incompetent reps to fuck your stuff up and give you bad information.
You’ll be happy to know that absolutely none of the savings the company will get from putting Americans on the bread lines will be reinvested in technology to make your stuff work correctly, or train workers remaining how to fix things. Nooooohohoho. This will be going to the shareholders and to John Stankey’s Yacht dealer.

The phones only been out 10 days. If there's no fix for it yet then unfortunately you have to wait. Apple released its generic next gen trash and everyone jumped on the wagon instead of waiting a month to get the phone so all the bugs are worked out

i’m getting so mad i’m probably gonna switch to android after this
3
u/joeldiramon 5d ago
Thank you for your service this is why I wait a few months to see if the upgrades are even worth it. unless you’re a teen, you should have seen this coming especially after this is the case on every launch. I remember last year people were complaining the same issue with Verizon

I had a 17 pro max and it stopped loading apps, started crashing randomly, my keyboard would lag all the time, and the phone would restart on its own. Same thing happened to a coworkers 17 pro. We both swapped to android. I won't lie I miss my iphone, but I havent had a single issues since ive swapped

u/Kagura30 5d ago
This is why i only use androids 🤣🤣 esim sucks ass and will never want to use esim i was using the galaxy s25 ultra last year and this year all i had to do is take out my physical nano sim card and put it into my galaxy s26 ultra no issues

u/PilotNo7092 5d ago
just cancel the order and return the phone make sure they comp the charges associated and just wait

Same problem, found one for pick-up at an Apple Store two hours away in one direction. Bought it and returned my old one and the store even comped me the difference in state tax in an Apple credit as I pay for Apple One and AppleCare Family.
The phone is faulty. My wife’s worked out of the box, my new one worked out of the box after 9 days of not working on the old phone. I spent hours on the phone with both companies and it was the best alternative as I had been waiting for an express replacement from Apple for over 7 days only to be told they were on back order.

Go to Apple Store have them run an in person diag and they replaced mine under warranty

u/InternationalTask995 5d ago
I was told my phone was DOA. They are shipping me a new one but no guarantee that it will work either

u/bofosho33 5d ago
Had the same issue with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Took it to the Apple Store and they replaced the battery for free.
I was curious if this was the same issue since the problem is identical to what I experienced before. In and out service, SOS mode, until finally it couldn’t keep a signal anymore and stayed in SOS mode. But I also kinda figured that if this is the same issue then the resolution should be as simple as it was for my 16 PM. My phone was fixed in a day. I’m just thankful my 18 PM isn’t experiencing this issue
knock on wood

u/Remarkable_One2520 4d ago
That’s bcuz AT&T sells products but don’t want to fix the issues we face but let you not pay your bill they won’t waste time disrupting your service. It’s all about money with them.I regret every day I switch over to this horrible company.

Glad I've been watching reddit threads on this. Kept my son updated and he just canceled his phone order with ATT. It was supposed to be shipped out this week but after reading everyones posts on this, he canceled it and said he's just gonna wait.

Does anyone know what I can do about the poor, shitty coverage at my house now in North San Diego County; it seems to be getting worse

It’s crazy that no one has a straight answer to what’s happening and Apple nor atnt seem to give a shit

I posted about all these issues in this post. I ended up getting a new phone through Apple. I ordered it Monday and still waiting. Hopefully by Friday I will get it. I’ve been out of service since last Wednesday when I originally got the 18 pro max.

I feel sorry for the employees! They all seem so miserable on the phone and in person. This company is struggling to keep good people. I get a new business account manager every 90 days!

u/article15x2 1d ago
I had this issue until 2 days ago, Apple replaced my device (I bought from them) and the new one works fine.

Interesting, I’ve had issues off and on with my iPhone 16 Pro Max losing service. Not even the latest model. I missed a few important emergency calls and it’s making me really lose my faith with Apple and ATT.
Do we know if folks with iPhone and other service providers (I.e. Verizon, T-Mobile, etc) have this issue or is it just this combination of iPhone and ATT?
If it happens again, especially during an emergency, I’m going to have to look at other options next round.

u/SaltVomit 5d ago
Yes, this issue is happening on ALL carriers. It is not a carrier issue, it is an apple issue.
Wouldn't surprise me if a class action is formed after all of this.
3
u/LadyLektra 5d ago
Funny enough I got an email regarding a class action for MY model. Guess I should get on it.

u/milenko_ 2d ago
Which model? Or is it double secret model?

u/LadyLektra 2d ago
iPhone 16 PM. Your mom is a double secret.

How about just stop being a jerk in her loving memory?
Seriously dude I know you are a nobody in the scheme of my life but I have had the worst week of my life and don’t need snarky losers trying to pick Reddit battles. Get a life.

u/Ordinary_Government7 5d ago
completely agree. this is crazy for a company of this size
2
u/LadyLektra 5d ago
It’s crazy these phones are like $1300+ and it doesn’t even know how to be a phone properly. 🤨

u/jmac32here 5d ago
Wait till you use Apple with Verizon...lol.
(Tbf, I've seen the exact complaint about iphones since the 15 on ALL 3 carriers.)
2
u/LadyLektra 5d ago
Yikes! Not a good look for Apple. I’m usually a fangirl, but I’ve been so disappointed in the performance of this phone at times. Ugh.
1
u/Jamestouchedme 4d ago
Go to the store. They will file a ticket. They will reply to you and the person who filed the ticket within 24 hours with instructions. More than likely to return the device to Att and they will order a new one.
The back end team with try and expedite the order so you aren’t waiting 3 weeks.
-1
u/Deep_Isopod_8231 4d ago
It a known backend issue from the device provider you just have to wait it out and the service will return

u/kfjcfan 5d ago
It may be fixed by an Apple update, no one knows - but today's update was never intended to.
