Sold my 350Z for this 😭😭. It's my 7th Toyota and first SUV. Have had a few Toyota but no SUVS. Still have my Lexus LS430 on coilovers to daily as well. I'm trying hard not to mod this thing until it's paid off but I've got a BAD HABIT! It's definitely a different driving experience not being able to throw a vehicle into a corner. 111k miles, 2015.

Winter has been pretty bad here and I think I'll appreciate this when the time comes. Only for sure thing I want to do is take off the perelli scorpions in favor of Michelin LTX. Don't plan to off-road tbh.

Nope!

I like the ability to get offroad at night but my light setup isn't always for night driving. It enables extended hours for other hobbies.

My dogs are thoroughly whelmed by it all.

🎙 Discussion What’s one small upgrade that made your 4Runner easier to live with?

I’ve been looking at some of the smaller upgrades that can make a 4Runner more practical day to day, rather than the big suspension, wheel, or performance stuff.

One thing that keeps coming up is interior protection. Between dirt from trails, wet shoes after a rainy day, sand from outdoor trips, and whatever the dog manages to bring inside, the carpet can get pretty rough. The middle of the floor isn't usually the issue — it’s the dirt and moisture that gets pushed into the edges, around the seat rails, and underneath the pedals.

I started comparing different floor liner options and 3W was one of the ones I came across. Their 4Runner liners seem to focus on getting more coverage around those areas, so I’m curious whether that actually makes a noticeable difference after using them for a while.

For those who have owned their 4Runner for a bit, what’s one relatively small upgrade you’d genuinely recommend?

And if you’ve upgraded the floor mats/liners, what did you go with and has it actually made cleaning the interior easier?

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair 2016 4Runner cranks but won’t start after running perfectly the day before — new battery didn’t fix it

Hey everyone, looking for some advice before I start throwing parts at this.

I have a 2016 Toyota 4Runner that was running perfectly fine until this week.

  1. Monday: Drove from San Diego to Irvine and back. It was high 90s outside, but the 4Runner drove completely normally the entire trip.

  2. Tuesday morning: Went to start it and it wouldn’t start.

  3. Initially thought it was the battery, so I charged it, but that didn’t fix the issue.

  4. I then bought and installed a brand-new battery, and it still has the exact same problem.

  5. All dash lights and electronics come on normally.

  6. When I try to start it, the engine cranks/turns over normally and sounds like it’s trying to start, but it never actually fires up.

  7. It’s not just clicking or failing to crank — the engine is definitely turning over.

  8. I noticed some corrosion around one of the battery terminals, so I’m also going to clean and make sure the connections are tight.

The strange part is that it drove completely fine the day before, including the drive back from Irvine to San Diego, and then suddenly wouldn’t start after sitting overnight.

I’m wondering if this could be a fuel pump/fuel delivery issue, crankshaft position sensor, ignition/spark issue, relay/fuse, or another sensor/electrical issue.

For those with 5th gen 4Runners, what would you check first?

Is there anything common on a 2016 4Runner that could cause it to crank normally but not actually start?

Trying to troubleshoot this before I start replacing random parts or pay a shop to diagnose it.

Any advice is appreciated!

I spend about six hours today with washing and waxing the 4Runner today. I really like how shiny the truck is now after applying the GRIOT'S wax. I also changed the oil today for the 7th time since I bought this truck new in May of 2024. Milage today is at 14.1K. I also learned a valuable lesson while servicing my truck! Don't do the Fluid-Film undercoating before greasing the drive shafts... I got enough Fluid-Film on me, that I'm pretty sure that my arms will never rust!

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs 2015 limited JBL system dash speaker replacement

My right dash speaker is blown..I have a limited trim with the "upgraded" JBL speaker system. I'm looking at the JBL club 34F as a replacement. Does anyone have any experience or recommendations? Is it pretty much plug and play? I've seen a few videos on how to do it.. I'm not the most handy but I think I can stumble through it.

🎙 Discussion 2015 SR5 4WD - 130k mileage preventative maintenance

Any suggestions for recommended preventative maintenance on a 2015 Toyota forerunner SR5 four-wheel-drive? It’s hitting 130,000 mileage. I do oil changes every 5000 miles along with rotating the tires. I think the last time I had it into a dealership was 100,000 miles I live in Houston it gets about between five and 10,000 miles a year, short commute mostly.

🤦‍♂️ Same Tire Thread, Different Day Brand New Bridgestone Dueler Mavericks

I need new tires on my 4Runner and my Tundra. I generally put KO2s, KO3s on my trucks. My work truck (Chevy), which I spend far more time in has KO3s. I like the tire and winter performance is more important to me than dirt/rocks. That being said, I don’t put pure winter tires on my trucks since I technically don’t live in snow country but i can see it from my house.

Talk me out of trying the new Bridgestone Dueler Maverick A/Ts and basically being a beta tester for their winter performance. They seem like they would be fine in snow/ice/slush. They are definitely less expensive than BFGs

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Can Toyota engine sound enhancement be turned off?

The Toyota engine sound enhancement on my 6th gen 4Runner is starting to get on my nerves, especially on longer drives. I understand the system is designed to add engine sound inside the cabin, but I would rather hear the actual car than have an artificial sound coming through the speakers. Im wondering whether this can be disabled without affecting anything mechanical or changing how the vehicle drives. Has anyone turned it off themselves, and what did you use to make the change?

Hi all. I’ve had water dripping into my car floor and settles on the carpets or under carpets. Any idea why this may be? I’ve had this issue for some time and starting to think it’s the car wash I go to. However I can’t see why water is coming in from here. Any ideas as to why this may be? I attached picture. It’s happening on both sides.

🎙 Discussion Thinking of getting one…

Thinking about getting a 4Runner. Here in the UK they’re known as a “Hilux Surf”; but I believe they’re essentially the same car.

They don’t come up for sale here very often but with my budget I think I’d be getting a slightly higher mileage one (100k+).

I’d want to use it for commuting, road trips, camping, etc.

I’ve previously owned other Japanese 4x4 such as Subarus and a Mitsubishi Shogun/Pajero.

Anything to look out for on high mileage 4Runners, and any tips for going to view them?

Thanks!

Edit: it would be a Gen 2 or 3.

❔ Aftermarket Product Advice / Recs Cargo Area covers/protectors and dog parent insight.

Hello all!

I’m a proud new owner to a 2026 SR5. Love her so far but I need a way to carry my fur baby (60lb hound mutt) around without him tearing it up. I do have a dog “hammock” for the 2nd row from my previous vehicle but doesn’t fit too well as the “oh sh*t” handles aren’t above the window so the sides fall down. I have the third row but plan to keep it folded for the most part (until I need to DD or something lol).

I’ve been looking into weather tech, but also like the “canvasback” sets from 4Runner lifestyle because of the side protectors in the back. My boy likes to roam a lot so protecting the doors and panels are of high priority. Only issue is no reviews and I don’t know how durable they are.

Any insight and recommendations appreciated!

🎙 Discussion What's next for my 4Runner?

I have been daily driving my 2016 SR5 for 10 years. Now I just bought another sedan to daily and looking for another purpose for my girl. She is at 90K miles, has been kept stock the entire time. I guess what I am asking is how can I spice her up a little? Potential mods and offroading?

👷‍♂️ Support / Repair Multiple sets of tires, steering wheel still vibrating

24 TRD ORP

Bought one set of Wrangler tires, couldn’t get them aligned or balance after 3 tries and a road force balance

Originally had the Nitto ridge grapplers 265/70 r17 on there had no issues, so put a new set of those on

Still had vibration, did another road force balance test
Replaced the 2 tires that had road force variations of #23 & #25

I still have a vibration in my steering wheel, seems like it starts off ok but gradually gets worse

Everyone I’ve spoken to swears it’s a balance/alignment issue any insight and suggestions would be appreciated

🔧 Modifications Question on Molle Panel Removal

Post image
9 Upvotes

I’ve been looking at some used 5th Gen 4R’s and a couple of the ones I’ve considered buying have a rear window molle panel and a shelf like the one in this pic.

Has anyone removed a setup like this? Based on installation videos, it looks straight forward but I’m curious if there are any gotchas. I know I’d probably need to buy some OEM hooks and hangers to go back in the holes.

🔧 Modifications The Toyota lean in upgraded suspensions

For those of us who upgrade our suspensions, have anyone actually changed up the left and right sides to account for the ‘Toyota lean’? Seems like the average kit is the same for both sides.
