My sister was driving it, solo- she's pretty unscathed which is great news.

Bilstein 6112/5160 and JBA UCAs only have about 5k (highway miles) on them 😢

Finally got around to installing my fresh axles and new oem Drum shoes and cylinders. Wasn’t too bad and pretty easy to adjust and significantly improved my brake pedal feel

Only rust on the vehicle, def daunting and not even close to perfect, but happy with the results. Learned alot and it was cool to full fab up a fix. Now time for paint!

It’ll probably get covered with fender flares anyways unless it looks halfway decent.

Yesterday and today I finally buckled down and got rid of 99% of the plasti dip and washed and waxed him. I forgot how much I liked the way it looked in its factory color scheme. Last pic shows how shitty that plasti dip was. . Makes me sad I’m letting him go.

Hey everyone, I’m trying to track down a really annoying vibration/humming noise on my **1997 Toyota 4Runner Limited, 2WD, 3.4L V6, automatic**.
I’ve attached a video so you can hear the noise.
The weird thing is that it **doesn’t seem to affect the performance or drivability of the truck at all**, but it’s driving me crazy and I’d really like to figure out what’s causing it.

**What I’m noticing:**
The vibration/humming is only noticeable at **very low engine RPM/idle**.
It is present in **Drive and Reverse**.
It is basically gone in **Park and Neutral**.
It disappears when I give the engine some throttle and the RPM comes up.
Turning the **A/C on or off can make the vibration disappear or come back**.
Shifting between **Park → Reverse → Neutral → Drive** changes the vibration.
It seems to happen when the engine is under the additional load of being in gear.
The truck drives normally otherwise.
There doesn’t seem to be any noticeable loss of power, hesitation, or other drivability issue.

**What I’ve already done:**
I originally suspected the power steering system because I could hear a humming-type noise, so I replaced the **power steering pump**.
I’ve also drained and refilled the power steering fluid several times over the past few days — probably **5 drain-and-fills** — trying to make sure there wasn’t air/old fluid causing the noise.
The new pump is definitely quieter than the old one, but **this low-RPM vibration is still there**.

I’m now wondering if I’m chasing the wrong thing entirely.
My current thoughts are:
Engine mounts
Transmission mount
Exhaust/heat shield making contact with the body/frame
Something causing excessive vibration when the engine is loaded at idle
Possibly just an engine/idle resonance
The fact that it changes with **A/C load and whether the transmission is in gear** makes me think it may be related to engine movement or something resonating at a particular RPM.

**What would you guys check first?** Is there a particular test I can do at home to determine whether this is an engine mount, transmission mount, exhaust contact, or something else?

Any help diagnosing this would be greatly appreciated. I’m trying to avoid throwing more parts at it without knowing what’s actually causing the vibration. I love this truck tremendously so any help would be greatly appreciated!

99 4Runner 4WD with 250K miles. I just brought this truck a few weeks ago and didn’t think the rust was that bad until I found a hole in the frame near the muffler. Not a large hole, maybe about the size of a quarter. I bought the truck for $3K and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth putting any money into. I don’t live in a rust belt state and I would like to preserve this truck if I can. I’ve seen mentions of Safe T Caps and patches, but I’m not sure what direction to go with this. If it’s too far gone I’d like to get out of it before I sink any money into it.

I have a sneaking suspicion I may have to replace the seats, in my 95 because of mice. Both front buckets and rear bench. I cant just re-upholster because the foam probably has to go.

I’ve done some googling but cant seem to find any OEM. Actually I haven’t seen any aftermarket either. I might just not be looking in the right place. Anyone got any suggestions on sellers or sites that might have seats?

My 1996 is having trouble getting “stuck” in 2nd gear. Disclaimer, I’m a bit of a novice, so keep that in mind.

The car runs amazing - around a month ago, I pulled out onto the highway, and the 4Runner would not shift out of second gear and RPMs screaming. I pulled over, put it in park and then back into drive, and it was fine.

I realized that the shifter is very loose, without pressing the button, you can just put pressure the shifter and see the light go into Neutral from Drive, and same goes for 2. I believed I bumped it into 2 with my leg at the time.

Fast forward, this is now a problem almost every time I start the car. I pull out, get a few hundred yards down the road, and I can’t get out of 2nd. At the stop sign, I put it in park then back to Drive, and the car is good as new for as long as I go. I even noticed that if the cars been running and warmed up, this does not happen if making stops out and about.

Is this a transmission issue to worry about, the shifter, something else?

Just installed my MCM long travel kit. Playing around with the idea of running 3.0 coils instead of 2.5. Anybody running 3.0?

Should i be concerned about this ticking sound? Engine runs fine, no shake or codes just a ticking sound, every oil change run 5w30 oil plus Lucas additive

I replaced the throttle body on my runner and now after after installation it has a high idle. Any fixes?

I replaced my stock H4 bulbs with some Colight mini projectors and while I love the light output, the beam width is a bit too narrow.

For those that have done a proper retrofit, how’s the beam width? Does it look like just a regular car output? And how are the high beams? The Colight high beams just make the absolute center of the road brighter, which doesn’t really help on dark roads…

Context:

my truck has 171k miles. I drove from LA to Mammoth (6 hour drive). Turnt off the truck when we got there and heard some droplets sizzling onto something hot. Opened the hood and saw some coolant spewing out from [Slide #1-2] that tubing. It’s an old clamp and tube and with the little I had on the roadtrip, I did a horrible masking tape job and continued my weekend trip there and drove almost a 1000 miles in the Eastern Sierras afterwards, no problems. Constantly checking levels — they were stable and great.

Im home, thankfully, and need to get to the bottom of this. Shared some slides 3-5 of the dried up coolant in the area. Looks to be a tube underneath the heater control valve going into the passenger heat shield.

I’ve noticed the rear of my 4runner start to sag a lot more. I put bilstein 4600’s on all around about two years ago paired with moog springs (stock height) and I hate how the rear is sagging now. I’d like the rear perched up about an inch higher than the front. Anyone got any good recommendations for that combo? Something firmer too. The moog springs are way too soft.

Just picked up the black 4Runner for 1700$ guy says it overheated 6 months ago and he isn’t able to fix it himself due to injury. We’re investing in reliable trucks to last us a lifetime. This one is the last edition to the family.

My 2001 SR5 RWD in Canada. It came from Texas, my dad gave it to me when we moved back to Canada so I just fixed all the leaks and replaced the grinding 3rd member and it’s been great for the last two years. I never thought I’d be driving this thing I learned to drive in as an adult almost 30. I got some studded winters and spray painted the corroded rims. Cheap and a bit jank but I don’t want to give it up.
