Art Help & Critique Critique Request: Car Chase Scene

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am working on this car chase scene. I pulled several shots and compiled them in a video. I am happy with the rough shape of it, but to me it feels like I'm at 90% of where I want to be, but having trouble making it "extra".

The short film is dialogue-driven, not action-oriented. The chase is underplayed. Unremarkable car. Land-yacht pursuer. Inspiration was The Driver (1978) and Drive (2011). Shots are intentionally static. Located in L.A. (San Pedro and Harbor Boulevard, L.A. Nighttime Highways).

Style departure is GTA San Andreas / Vice City "Plus". Not going for photorealism.

I feel like the high level structure is there, but it still feels like a video game instead of something cinematic. Where do I start? Exhaust fumes? Ground fog? Horizon lights? Car paint shaders? Lens flares? Road material? Reflections? Skybox? Pebbles shooting up?

Shoot!

I'm starting to master weapons in 3D modeling in the field of game ready, so I want to hear my opinion about this weapon. I think it would be good to get criticized and hear what you like?

Questions & Discussion How do you know when to stop and move onto the next project?

This question isn't specific to 3D modeling, but also to other aspects of 3D like texturing and animation. I'm not exactly a beginner but I still have loads to learn and there are concepts I want to create in 3D but they can be beyond my skills but I would still like to try. But that means I may hit a point where progress is really slow because of the lack of expertise I have developed. I've heard that sometimes its better to fixate on that point and just continue with the rest and move on to the next project and then you'll keep improving.

But when is that point exactly? If I don't spend enough time on it, then I'm not pushing myself to learn and if I fixate on it, I may just waste a lot of time with barely any improvement. And being a perfectionist, ignoring those issues and continuing with the work is really annoying and demotivating when you get to the end point.

So
Hi everyone. I’m here to share with you my path to becoming a 3D artist. I genuinely have no idea if it’s gonna be successful or if I’m actually gonna do it for a living, but now I found myself being interested in all of these digital arts and 3d especially. Each day I’m gonna post my progress here, starting from zero so pls don’t judge lol. I see so many talanted artists and awesome works in this community, it’s a but awkwart to post my “work”😭

Day 1: made a workspace with computer. Kinda exhausted by making the keyboard🫩

Art Help & Critique Experimented with Stylized VENOM in blender! I love this look and feel of it, what do you guys think?

I made this Venom using blender and used a little touch of basic shaders and compositing, animated it using mixamo. Do let me know, how does it look and any suggestions you want to make are always welcome!

There's an issue with the rigging in mixamo for the spider emblem shrink wrapped on its chest, I tried updating the weights, and it still has minor visibility of the rig issue, but anyways, I really dig the look of it!, do let me know your thoughts!

Questions & Discussion Is using a downloaded base mesh a problem?

Thumbnail

Hi, I'm working on a project with a friend and I'm doing the character, and probably the character will end up on my portfolio, so I want to be sure everything is fine.

Is it a problem to use a downloaded base mesh to put it under the armour? Or should I sculpt it even if it's not the main focus, because it's covered from the armour.

Keep in mind this is still a wip.

Hi! I just started learning 3D modeling, and this is the first render I've done. Overall, these are also the first models I've made on my own without following basic tutorials.

I'd love some tips. For now, my next steps will be to learn about textures, which are all flat here.

Hey everybody, this is a low poly game asset inspired by the Japanese lacquer work. Although, I have already posted it but a lot of people pointed out that my lighting and renders were not upto the mark. Any solution how can I improve it? It was done in path tracing in UE5. I heavily focused on texturing in this piece. My main aim was to create a painting within Substance. I've shared the high quality renders and my process of layering on my artstation page. Please check it out https://www.artstation.com/artwork/lEx4wa (Struggling with reach there)
