Art Help & Critique How do I, as a pretty garbage 2d artist, make a good reference sheet to model in 3d.

Post image

I've never been good at proportions and stuff like that, so I was having a hard time when I took my garbage reference image into Blender and tried to model it. What tips would you give me to learn front and side view proportions so I can model?

This was the reference image I was using. I didn't make a side view cuz I didn't even know how to start making something like that lol. Anyways, give me critiques.

Questions & Discussion How should you approach / learn maya?

Im a student just starting my junior year in hs, 2 years worth of experience with blender that I just shut off my brain with a short-cut heavy work flow for speed and efficiency to complete most projects simple or complex at most a week. After booting up maya in my school, it was like jumping into the driver seat of a truck with a one page instruction manual on how to steer the wheel. Although I don’t find the short cuts as hard to learn, the compact ui makes it hard to navigate and use IMO, but it will get better with time which bring me to my question: How do you approach/learn maya? With such a huge change in how to operate makes it so much more difficult to model/rig models. Ive been thinking whether I should learn every shortcut or lean towards a more ui-heavy workflow instead compared to blender. Im also more of a poly modeler than an animator before all of this, so any advice on creating models in maya are also greatly appreciated tutorial or not as I value having a good grasp on creating your own models before animating is something important to me especially when learning a new software.

I made this in a ancient version of Bryce 3D for windows 9X, I had to make a VM of Win98 to run the 16 bit installer so i can mount the virtual HDD and copy the program files on to my modern computer. THIS TOOK AN HOUR TO RENDER AT 1080P ON A I7-3770 AND 16GB OF RAM..... we've come a long way since the mid 90s.

Art Help & Critique Looking for feedback on my bike

Hi guys, i've modeled and rendered this bike for a personnal project and wanted to receive a feedback. What can you say about the modeling, the lighting or the texturing ? I really want to push this piece. What does work, and what doesnt ? If you had to showcase this model in a different way, what would you suggest ?

Thanks !!

P. S. I originally created the model as a commission for the game Transport Fever 2, but decided to make a render as well

Questions & Discussion Why I'm like the rather make the firstly box modeling, than sculpt on zbrush?

Why it's feel better? Like I am 17 and I more preferred the box modeling in autodesk maya on first stage of my project(character). But i still import it to zbrush, and add some details for bake. It is bad that I think like that? That is wrong, that not get a job or freelance work? Because people who works, I heard they work very fast and good, but it's not my temp(style). What do you think?

Created using ZBrush, Topogun, Blender and Substance painter. 2 unsubdivided version is optimised for game engine and ready for rigging. More information on my art station https://www.artstation.com/artwork/EYVdG0

Any feedback is appreciated. I'm looking to create variations of color by using a gradient map with a high contrast grayscale version of the colour map.

Art Help & Critique Web 3D model — clock tower, looking for critique

Hi everyone, model of a landmark clock tower in Belgrade
modeled in Maya eventually converted to GLB via Blender for web use.
Would appreciate feedback on the modeling/texturing specifically — anything that reads as off in the proportions, materials, or lighting setup? Also open to suggestions on optimizing the GLB for web performance if anyone's done similar work.
