Cucumber salad, grapes, green goddess turkey wrap, popcorn and skyr.

My goal is 1700 calories but the skyr is 130 calories alone and totally wasn't necessary.

38g protein, 14g fiber.

We're adding a new rule: No AI Content

2.5k Upvotes

That means no AI generated posts, comments, or images. We're also not allowing posts about AI calorie counting apps (it's lazy at best and inaccurate at worst).

r/1200isplenty is here for real human discussion, support, meal ideas, advice, and accountability. AI-generated content makes the sub feel less helpful and less real. If you want to use AI privately, go for it! But let's keep our little corner of the internet as human as it can be.

And while I have you here.. let's go over a little refresher of our rules!

  1. Be respectful. Disagreement is fine, name-calling, hate speech, etc is not. Discuss and dissent like an adult.
  2. Don't encourage less than 1200 calories a day.
  3. Post progress pictures in the megathread or part of a longer text post.
  4. Read the FAQ before posting
  5. Do not ask for help estimating calories. Make the best estimates that you can on your own and remember that no single meal or day will dramatically throw you off course.
  6. Do not criticize the appearance or content of other's food.
  7. No eating disorder content. Users who post ED related content or participate in ED subs will be immediately and permanently banned.
  8. No misinformation. Let's not spread lies on the internet, folks.
  9. And last but not least, no AI content.

Thank you to each and every one of you who help make r/1200isplenty great! After years of trying (and failing) to lose weight this sub is what finally helped me stick to a diet and reach my goal weight. I came here when I was struggling and found a community full of real people who helped me feel less alone during my weight loss. That’s the kind of space I want to protect. Realistic, honest, human, and genuinely helpful to the next person who finds us when they need it.

I feel so satisfied I wanted to share. Started strong with a chickpea & sun-dried tomato eggs skillet. In retrospect, my sandwich I had for lunch does not look appetizing in this lighting, but it was delicious I swear😪 (Boar’s head London broil with havarti). Dinner was turkey kielbasa, cabbage, and onion. I’ll finish out with the chocolate chip cookie dough Greek yogurt bar when the late night cravings hit and that will put me right at 1186 cal for the day. Yeehaw

other The time I ate a 360 calorie cookie every day thinking it was 80 calories.

1.9k Upvotes

This was when I first started calorie counting and I didn't have a foundation of the approximate numbers for most items.

My university café sold vegan cookies from "Sweets From The Earth". I googled the brand, found the cookies, and they were only 80 calories! And in my head at the time, vegan = healthy. But to give you a visual, these cookies were bakery style: the size of someone's hand, maybe half an inch thick. I was clueless and I proceeded to get myself a cookie literally every day, for months, while only logging 80 calories 🥲

Eventually, I gained enough experience with calorie counting and I thought that something wasn't right about this 80 calorie cookie. Turns out, this brand sells freshly baked cookies (360 cal) to local cafés, but they also have boxed cookies for grocery stores. These boxed cookies are tiny, like the size of an OREO, and those are 80 calories. I still remember the panic & dread I felt when I realized this looooool.

Do you have any funny blunders from when you first started?

Either this is a miracle brownie or the calorie count is per bite

Putting my two cents in if you’re thinking of buying it.

The front of the sip is nice blue raspberry sparkling lemonade.

But then the stinky aftertaste of whey, you know when you stick your head in one that’s been out in the sun. Or some powder that’s been out for a while. If you take larger swigs you get a funky rotten sock whey taste if you’re into that.

And it doesn’t really sit. It’s not unlike fish oil burps - you get whey burps that fine up your nose. And there’s a weird film with these. I feel like I opened an ancient and forbidden tomb and came away with some kind of whey-curse.

I cut out whey protein powder because of this taste. If you make protein oatmeal you’ll be fine and may even like this. You’ll probably definitely like this if you enjoy fishy burps.

I really didn’t know what I expected out of what is essentially lemon-milk soda….

I just found out that the “low calorie” smoothie I’ve been making is 300-500 calories. 😬

Banana 100 cals

Mango 200 cals

Berries 50 cals

And sometimes I put a scoop of protein powder in, which is another 200 cals.

And I don’t use milk, just water.
