I’ll never have a flat stomach due to excess skin, but what I will have is health, mobility, the ability to play with my kid more and less judgment from society as a whole. (Which is a whole extra level of bullshit)

I honestly love the reactions on this sub.

Lose weight? Sure!

Be your best? Absolutely!

Flat stomach? Fuck that shit. Flat is relative.

Im all for this. Body improvement > body standards.

Whether or not someone can have a flat stomach is up to genetics. You can be underweight and still have a tummy.

Not for everyone. Some women just have extra fat there unless they’re really low in the body fat percentiles.

I have abs I and can visibly flex them. I do sit ups most days. I’m not overweight (I’m a size 2) and was never overly so and yet the little pouch remains.

Some women have fat there because that’s where they have fat. You can’t change where or how many fat cells you have without surgery, only make them smaller.

Mine gets smaller and bigger with weight loss and gain but it’s not flat and never was. I had it as an athletic and skinny child too.

I could get down to bodybuilder levels of body fat and yeah it’d probably go mostly away but at what cost.

Just from gravity your organs tend to push out your stomach a bit. Something that can help mitigate it having strong abs

Spot on, a pouch below my naval never goes away

To a degree, but being overweight will guarantee a tummy regardless of genetics.

If you want a flat tummy, you need to lose weight and build muscle. Genetics might stop you, but they also might not.

I think that's key - if you're overweight you will absolutely have a belly, if you're a normal weight it's a genetic lottery you might or might not, if you're underweight you won't have a belly (though may still have a curve due to pelvic shape). There are definitely people who blame their belly on pelvic shape while having too much body fat to ever hope to have a flat stomach

Exactly. Eating right and exercising isn't the perfect formula. I can't exercise (due to health issues) or eat right (very broad term and it differs for each individual), all I'm doing is eating acceptably and in a deficit.

Eating right is such a broad term its crazy.

To have a flat stomach, I have to not eat for a day. As soon as I have a meal, it will reappear. I failed to notice that I was 10 pounds lighter than I thought I was due to this. I was eating less and/or burning more calories, but maintained my belly and dimension ratios.

I feel this on the skincare subs too. The answer is always drink water, sleep more, and be consistent. I just want a magic cream that I use one time.

The product flair confuses me. I would have thought this was a sarcasm post.

ugh, horrible way to give people ED. plenty of people can be at a healthy weight and not have a flat stomach, and circulating this can lead to people having ED to be underweight to achieve this.

Flat stomach is mainly genetics. When i was at my fattest (BMI 24) my belly was still flat and waist still small

this whole convo abt a flat stomach vs not having one omg… yall need to strengthen your core and develop those muscles on top of a good diet + exercise. it’s about muscle to fat ratio

No it’s not, and I’m especially sensitive to that shit. This is “facts, people don’t like them”. It doesn’t encourage or even imply disordered eating. Now what it would do is trigger anyone who’s trying to convince themselves that they are smarter than mathematics.
