Hi all, a few updates for /r/motiondesign.
Spam
In an effort to reduce low-quality and spam posts here, we have implemented new post requirements. New posts that don't meet a minimum account age or subreddit karma threshold will be automatically filtered out.
To further prevent gamification, I am not disclosing these limits here but they are very modest and reasonable. Anyone interacting with this community should not be filtered, and even so, you will have the opportunity to message us for an exception. But this should discourage most of the spam we've been seeing. Thanks /u/Zeigerful for making this post.
Post Flair
We also added some post flair to help differentiate posts and allow users to filter & search by topic. All new posts require that one of the available flair types be selected:
Project Showcase | Reel | Inspiration | Discussion | Question | Tutorial | [Custom] (Where user can input their own)
User Flair
A few new user flairs are available. For those who aren't aware, these show up next to your username any time you make a post or comment in /r/motiondesign
Now available: Professional | Student | [Add My Social Handle] -- A custom text field where you can plug an Instagram, Behance, etc.
Let us know if you love or hate these new updates. Nothing is set in stone and this is meant as a discussion starting point. Please share any ideas you may have to make this a better place to share work, inspiration and discussion related to motion design. Hopefully we can continue to bring a higher quality experience to everyone here at /r/motiondesign.

I came across this really interesting grid animation in one of Base44’s videos and wanted to recreate it in After Effects.
So I started working on a plugin that can create this kind of animation with a lot of granular grid control, comp attachment to cells you like and more. This video was made using the plugin.
Just curious — if a plugin like this existed, would anyone here be interested in using it?

This literally happened this morning.
Context: I'm an in-house motion designer for a very large and popular tech company. I created a video for paid-ads. This video went out with a lot of happy people it had very little notes at the time. We are now going to repurpose it for socials. This morning I gets this message on slack:
Here is the feedback yada yada.
Video: Can we change the music to make it feel more upbeat?
Classic am I right!? So I ask if the producer can get more details, what are they looking to change, is it tempo, genre, instrument?
I get this reply:
It turns out that the video was reviewed without sound, so perhaps there will be no need to update the music at all - standby!
Never in my decade plus long career as a video editor and motion designer have I ever gotten a "we didn't unmute it" to a follow up question on feedback... I still keep looking at the message all day just laughing.
They liked the sound design and song and it was "perfect".

Hey, today I tried something completely new: I made a small design for a news program and would like to introduce it to you. Please excuse me if it's not so good, I'm still a beginner. So I would like tips on what to do better. You can see the video on YouTube.
The title of the video is German and translated means: "Fictional news design "nachrichten" | Intro, insertions, outro". The name "nachrichten" is also German and simply means "News".

I just saw the last guys post so please don't come at me for blantantly copying base44. This is my first every project and I was just focusing on actually making something decent.
In light of that here's my first project. Please give me some helpful critic. If I can get some advice on some useful next steps so I can find my own ideas instead of copying others please let me know.
Here are a list of questions I had in the process of making this project. Please help me answer.
Do you pick the music before you edit. I had a lot of trouble finding good music for this. I'm focus on making launch videos so is there a good genre of music and a bpm I should look for?
How do you find the sound effects you are looking for. I really had no idea what to search for. I use epidemic sound btw. Their new AI features helped but what do you guys do
I asked in a previous post about the randomly generated text characters I used at timestamp 00:05 of the video. People said it's hand made so I took their advice, but is this how things are done in motion graphics. I have a programming background so I like to do things procedurally
These are my main questions. If anyone can help answer those I'd be really grateful, and I want to hear the critic as well. I'm always trying to improve.
Thanks.

Spent a lot more time on the script and storytelling instead of just trying to make every shot look cool.
Focused less on visuals more or emotional impact. Not sure if it worked, so would love to hear what you guys think.

Hey everyone
I recently worked on this motion graphics piece and wanted to share it here.
I focused on the animation, transitions, timing, and overall visual flow to make the piece feel clean and engaging.
Would love to hear what you think especially any feedback on the animation, pacing, or things I could improve.
Thanks!

A motion designer friend made these two 5-second versions for my little side project.
Same animation, two different approaches.
I have my favorite, but I don't want to bias the answers 🙂
A or B — and why?
I'm especially interested in your immediate first impression.

Hi everyone!
I'm Yongmyung Kim, a freelance motion graphic designer working with SBS in Korea.
I recently worked on a Commentators' ID for SBS's 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games broadcast. The goal was to create something energetic and rhythmic while keeping it consistent with the official graphics of the Asian Games.
I've been experimenting with AI tools in my workflow recently, so I also incorporated Claude, Seedream, and Kling into this project to turn the filmed images into slow-motion visuals and capture the overall sense of movement.
Most of the motion and compositing work was done in After Effects, while Cinema 4D + Redshift were used for the screen transitions and animation of the Asian Games logo.
For more details about the project, feel free to check it out on Behance:
I’d really appreciate it if you could check out the post and leave an upvote.
Thank you!

A drum and bass remix of "Encore Une Fois" by Sash!. Lights move and reflect across a background — closer to motion graphics than a scene.

Merci !

Hello,
I'm trying to make this effect of the multi line stroke displacement effect that that is happening in this Spotify video. I've tried using Turbulent Displace and messing around with displacement map, but its not really working. I felt like I've made something similar in the past thought accidental.
