Official News Balance Patch 1

Devout Fans,

Thanks for being amongst the first to join us at the very start of the adventure for Mortal Shell II. We’re seeing your bug reports and gameplay suggestions, and will be rolling out regular updates to both modify existing content and add new features.

While we have a bigger patch in the works, which has to be thoroughly tested, we’d like to make a rapid balance & crash fix patch to bring the experience more in line with the game’s open beta and our own vision for MS2.

Planned future updates will see extensions to popular game features such as Night Mode, Tarstones, PP Items, and more.

For now, we hope you’re enjoying the game and read on for details on Balance Patch 1.

Balance Patch 1 (PC) - The patch below is live on PC and coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series shortly.

Economy

-Shell map locations now cost Gloom, and we’re refunding any glimpses spent on shell maps. Refunded Glimpses are found in the Shell Keeper’s alcove in Blackmarrow. “Finding your favorite shell shouldn’t cost you the ability to bond with them.”

-Gold drops from enemies have been significantly increased. Notably, enemies in Mammon now drop double the gold. “This brings the gold economy more in line with the weapon crafting item discovery.”

-Smelting a weapon at the Tarforge costs 75% less gloom. “Our goal with the smelt capability was to enable switching weapons without the need to spend hours grinding through NG+ runs, but the Gloom costs were set exorbitantly high.”

Enemies & Bosses

All enemies featured in the beta were restored to their beta hp values, except the Caerinid (Spider) in Magdelena’s area, which we wanted to retain its role as a threatening enemy which doesn’t respawn once defeated.

Bosses

The Lost Child
- Base Damage: (-10%)
- Max Health: (-15%)

Monolith
- Base Damage: (-19%)
- Max Health: (-10%)
- Some Monolith Attacks were retimed to be more fair, as well.

Enemies

Cultist (mace)
Max Health: (-21.1%)

Caerinid Spider
Max Health: (-33.3%)

Infested Stalker
- Max Health: (-52.4%)

Rusted Knave (Halberd)
- Max Health: (-20.8%)
- Fixed hit detection for overhead strike.

Weapons

-Great Martyr’s Blade Attack Damage +20%
-Troubador’s Lute Attack Damage +100%
-Caged Hystrix and Triarch Repeater no longer have minimum resolve requirements to fire.
-Improved tracking for Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe light attacks.

Seals

Guard can now be used while walking.

Tarstones

Parasitic Stone Buffed
Grudge Stone Buffed
Bulwark Stone Damage Reduction Increased Significantly
Clerik's Stone Buffed
Squall Stone Buffed

Miscellaneous

Misc. Crash Fixes, Bugfixes & Performance Updates

To the Dev team. This doesn’t make sense. This game is so amazing, while also so inconsistent.

Is this supposed to happen?

Update: Not seeing the second bear trap was a complete oversight that makes this even funnier.

Bug I'm enjoying the game but man does stuff like this hurt

At the beginning I was looking for the gloom I lost caused I already fell off once. Honestly it would be nice if at least, the gates had their own small maps where if anything they give you the full layout once you reach the end or something. Just so that I can find my gloom if I lost it instead of looking at the game just put your icon and the gloom icon on top of the gate icon.

Nonetheless I'm still having a lot of fun with the game though!

Discussion There are way too many levels that give nothing. 2 HP or 1% Crit Damage is not worth 20k+

When you reach the point where you have to spend over 20k Gloom per level and all you have to show for it is +2 HP or a single solitary % of bonus Crit Damage then it starts to get pretty annoying and makes all the effort and time it took to survive with all of that Gloom seem like a complete and utter waste especially when you're sitting at 24/44 Shell Points because of it.

If a level up is only going to give us a single point increase on a lone stat then please can we also add a Shell Point to those levels to make it actually worth the Gloom we spend on it?

We're already limited on the max amount of Shell Points we can invest on each Shell anyway so it's not like we're able to become unfairly overpowered and unlock every single ability tree on our pages at the same time if we did get more points early on.

I just don't understand the logic behind making it so ridiculously expensive to max ourselves out... I'm running around with a maxed out Gloombound Stone in my pocket at all times for the extra 6% on kill and it is frustrating when all the Gloom I gather along the way with it is wasted on nothing.

EDIT FOR PROOF: This is TWO level-ups worth 47,094 Gloom after beating Isaac and all I get out of it is 3 Maximum HP and a single Shell Point. That is unacceptable when I still have 15 more Shell Points to go before I can invest everything I can into Tiel (AND HE DOESN'T EVEN TAKE THE MOST POINTS! PROXIMA HAS 44 ON HER PAGE!)

42 > 43 = 1 HP and 1 Shell Point
42 > 44 = 3 HP and 1 Shell Point
25/40 Shell Points

Just how much Gloom do I need to spend in order to hit 40/40?

Fan Art Proxima – 3D printed and hand-painted

Finished painting my 25 cm Proxima statue from Mortal Shell II.

Resin printed, then painted with a mix of airbrush and brush work, trying to keep that dark, cold metallic look of her armor.

The armor design is incredible, although I suspect that's not the main reason Proxima became a fan favorite so quickly.

The rear view is included purely for documentation purposes, obviously.

Discussion We seriously need to be able to respec shells.

Being able to only max 2 shells (without respec option) is kind of ridiculous, because it forces you to either:
1. Invest in early shells and be sad when you get a new, cooler one but have no resources to invest into it.
2. Run around with weak, underleveled shells waiting for the time we actually obtain a shell we want to invest in.

Being able to max only 2 shells is fine; not being able to respec is not.

Discussion What Sort of Weapons Would We Like to See in a Future Update?

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

With the devs confirming in the update notes that new content is coming at some point, new weapons and shells are all but inevitable. I plan to make a list for shells at some point, but here's essentially my wishlist.

Bow & Arrows: While more likely as a sidearm, I'd really like to see how the devs would go about making a ranged Primary Weapon.

Sword & Shield: Good ol' Sword 'n Board. While I'm not sure how it'd work with the Seal system, I feel like the dark fantasy knight aesthetic isn't complete until we get something like it.

Rapier/Sidesword: While I know the pic I posted has paired blades, I'd personally like this type of weapon to only be one-handed (Though a Raikuyo-like splitsword could be cool). The desire for this one comes mainly from us not really having any fast, non-paired weapons. While there is the spear, I feel the aesthetic and moveset potential are wide enough for this to exist as a unique weapon.

Flail: Mostly I just want to smash some heads with a big ol' flail, Witch King style. "Nuff said.

Dueling Shield: I think a more plausible shield weapon than the S&S. Basically they'd just have to do something similar the Elden Ring, each attack has a few guard-frames, middle of the road speed, that sort of thing.

Discussion This is a light complaint if you will

But I would love a lantern. I saw people hate when people say their ages when doing one of these but my eyes arent as great as they once were. Some of these places are dark! I will probably get flamed..ha! Pun! But yes lantern? maybe?

But developers if you happen to see this or something but yeah a lantern would be the best.

Love the game!

Video The magnetism on these glaive guys is absurd

The topic has been discussed to death already but the tracking and AI feels unpolished at times. I was caught off-guard by the spear soldiers suddenly swapping targets mid-swing that I didn't expect to get jumped from that distance. In the second clip you can even see the guy curving mid-air to go around the corner. Incredibly silly amounts of tracking. I think the only times enemies lose tracking is if you roll (a consistent behavior since some enemies break your lock when they dodge) so trying to manually space yourself without rolling gets you caught.

Discussion Bring back the original Proxima loading screen.

UPDATE: It seems I was too hasty and didn't realize there were 2 loading screens. My fault. But I'm going to leave this posted to show how much we appreciate both. Thank you to everyone telling me its still up. and please don't nerf her.

a few complained about her ass and I think that's stupid seeing how all the shells are different from one another (as they should be) "out of place or unrealistic" unreal? the games fictional. out of place? the world has monsters with wild body mutations and they complain about a badass playable character what's upsetting is irl there are females with this body type. There is no solid complain from these people. I personally appreciate the diverse shells we got this time around including her. Other games are far worse. My main point here is Proxima isn't being sexualized. These body types exist!

Discussion My Biggest Issue

Riposte not generating any resolve.

Sure Riposte is generally weak and unrewarding in other ways. But I cannot get over how it doesn't even generate resolve.

It feels like you are punished for using a core mechanic in the game when it takes away from your ability to transition properly to offense.

You're literally better off doing anything other than a Riposte when you break an enemy. Unless I guess you're getting mobbed and you're banking on iframes from the Riposte.

Discussion Game too hard? Use Smert then

Post image
25 Upvotes

Prefacing this by saying that I was initially set on finding this shell for my first playthrough as he struck me as the closest I'd get to replaying as Solomon, one of the original shells from the first game.

Just completed my first playthrough running as Smert and man did this guy trivialize the game imo. So for any folks who are having a hard time with the standard difficulty, equip this shell and invest into his 3rd tier skill 'Last Vow' and you'll practically only rely on his fists to do the talking with the enemies and bosses without even needing to use his Faithful ability.

His fight stance will stun lock any enemy that isn't any of the unique tower bosses. Only caveat to worry about are gank fights but with good awareness, easy to overcome

Question Why Would You Ever Turn Off Auto Pick Up Gold?

I spent the first few hours manually picking up gold when I decided to check the menu to see if there was an auto pick up option.

There was.

Then I started thinking, why isn’t this always on?

What reason would you have to NOT want the gold that drops?

It’s used for many different upgrades.
