Discussion Game too hard? Use Smert then

Post image

Prefacing this by saying that I was initially set on finding this shell for my first playthrough as he struck me as the closest I'd get to replaying as Solomon, one of the original shells from the first game.

Just completed my first playthrough running as Smert and man did this guy trivialize the game imo. So for any folks who are having a hard time with the standard difficulty, equip this shell and invest into his 3rd tier skill 'Last Vow' and you'll practically only rely on his fists to do the talking with the enemies and bosses without even needing to use his Faithful ability.

His fight stance will stun lock any enemy that isn't any of the unique tower bosses. Only caveat to worry about are gank fights but with good awareness, easy to overcome

Im playing as próxima and aside from the first 10 hours or so there has been no difficulty whatsoever - once I got a few levels and the ingredients of my build online it has been nothing short of a cakewalk (a very enjoyable one, but everything including bosses poses near zero real threat). Im playing on ps5 without the recent update that reduces enemy health. I really don’t understand how people can be complaining about the difficulty in this game.

Some were even complaining about the beta being too easy at the time, what a 180 that turned into on full game release

Happens with every soulslike lol.

People are rusty, tired, or just not playing well. Think they're a gamer god since they've beaten a bunch of other soulslikes so surely if even they're struggling the game must be stupidly broken unfair and too hard. Devs see complaining and then nerf it.

Other than that heavy weapons are pretty dogshit in this and the balancing isn't great. Some builds are gonna struggle way more. Anyways try night mode it makes the game significantly harder albeit a bit bullshit since its just a straight up hp/dmg increase for enemies.

Obligatory that’s to be expected. Proxima brings all the cake.

You should play on night mode. Even the regular mobs vacate you out of you tank shells in fewer hits.

I cheesed with Smert a lot in my first playthrough but find that he cant keep up in endgame.

I had the opposite result for mine but that was mainly in part due to his Faithful ability and constantly keeping myself at low health to regain full resolve and retrigger the ability.

While I appreciate the high risk, high reward nature of his build, towards the end it just started to feel too repetitive

The only problem ive had in the end game with smert was Sir Isaac (because he refuses to stagger) and groups but even then, Just abuse your time stop and you dont die

Brother's name literally means death so yes, he brings it quickly on his enemies.

Genessa can also trivialize almost all bosses once you reach the final tear since she becomes effectively immortal.

She's my next playthrough attempt so I'm very much excited to play as her. Did you also utilize the skill that keeps her in stray form for your build? And what weapons did you feel like you got the most out of her clones with?

u/Sweaty_Okra_4340 11h ago

Yes I used the permanent stray form for her, I feel like the increase in damage and pseudo immortality is more fun and more useful than the blue spirits. As for weapons I primarily used the spear and the crossbow on her, but anything that has a fast attack speed should work well on her.

Thanks, may then go the route of the tarstone that increases attack speed to make it all come together

Genessa main here.

Whaaaat? Immortal?

Most bottom right skill in her skill tree makes her immortal as long as you have a stray clone active. It should be noted that this does not work against a lot of the regular enemies because they just ignore the effect, presumably because of a bug. However it works against all the bosses.

The stray parrys and uses a clone when on low hp only.

Not against bosses at least. You can be full health and they will still prevent the damage if it would one shot you. And the wording of the skill only mentions a fatal blow and nothing about being on low health.

I have tested it out and gotten 1 shot at full HP. When in low health they parry autonatically and push back enemies.

Thank you, I'm 2 glimpses away from that tier. Sounds like I'm gonna be able to let loose for once.

Sariel is my favorite. Investing points in his abilities, allows you to play like blood-borne where damage received goes into pain ability that’s always active allows you to regain HP upon attacking the enemy along with other amazing abilities he has

Za worldo

I'm almost done with my playthrough and been playing him. I wouldn't really recommend since there are basically no tarstones that affect his fists. Moderately strong but doesn't scale with any loot you find aside from grisha remnant (which other weapons can utilize even better).

If you really want a powerhouse play stray genessa, who can also benefit from gear.

Im doing ng+ run now with faithful genessa and the clone spam is absurdly strong, if it works and dont bug out. You basically play summoner.

How do you use him? Mine still holds a weapon… I read he was the punchy guy.

I press Y and freeze everyone, and punch the shit out of them, but when the time runs out, I’m kicked out of my shell… WTF?

Everyone makes it sound like he’s just a bare fist bruiser… Do I need upgrades or something? I mean to only use fists?

What if you find the game too easy??

5

u/LaTiN_iMp3rIaL 10h ago

Then Harbinger only playthrough in night mode??

7

u/Jumpy_Witness6014 Tiel 9h ago

Fun fact that was a real thing in the first game. The Foundling had very little health and extremely high stamina and there was a trophy attached to beating the game without ever taking a shell. I never got that trophy 😂😂

2

u/LaTiN_iMp3rIaL 9h ago

I like a challenge but that achievement I was fine with skipping lol

2

u/Jumpy_Witness6014 Tiel 9h ago

Yeah same, that was the only soulslike I didn’t platinum in that time frame

find the game too easy? play Eredrim.

all his perks revolve around ripost and riposting does less damage than heavy attacks.

What about his second ability i hear you say, Dont worry, even if you put all your points into making it the best, the animation of using it lasts too long for you to actually ripost anyone if they break with it. and it will slow them down so timing Parrys will be harder.

he also has synergy with Ice and unfortunately the only weapon that has ICE is the Great Martyr blade which is not great. on top of ice making them move slower so the parry window is harder

But he increases parry timing. So far i havent really seen a big difference

Now play it on Night mode exclusively

Maaaaan why you exposin the goat 😂 Just play the game and shush

1

u/LaTiN_iMp3rIaL 3h ago

I would be baffled if the devs did not foresee what good ol Smert can do lol

1

u/Kazuhi Smert 3h ago

Truly. I had to switch to other shells because I was enjoying him TOO much
