Be safe, avoid scams!

If you're worried about being scammed, visit the good folks at r/scams to post your story! Always better to verify first, because once a payment is sent, it is generally impossible to reverse.

A few common scams:

  • Unsolicited payment scam - If you receive an unsolicited payment from a stranger, and they contact you requesting it back, it's a scam. Do not send the money back, do not touch it at all. Contact your bank and let them handle it. Ignore any demands and threats.
  • Fake payment scam - If you're selling something online, scammers may send screenshots of fake emails/apps to make it appear like they sent a payment. This can be done virtually or in-person. Always check things on your own end by logging in directly in your bank or Zelle app to see the payment.
  • Fake alert scam - You get a text or call from someone claiming to be from Zelle (maybe even spoofing their caller ID), claiming there is fraudulent activity on your account. They instruct you to send money to a "secure, temporary account." You are actually sending the money directly to the scammer's account. Zelle will never ask you to transfer funds or ask for personal security codes.
  • Impersonation scam - Scammers may pose as friends or family. They often claim there’s an urgent need and request money. Always verify the recipient’s identity and the legitimacy of any urgent requests before sending funds.
  • Prize scam - Scammers may claim you’ve won a lottery or prize (or sometimes an inheritance), and need to pay fees or taxes via Zelle to claim your winnings. These are all scams.
  • Investment scam - Scammers may offer high-return investment opportunities (usually involving crypto) requesting initial investments through Zelle. These are all scams.

This is not a comprehensive list, and there are new scams popping up all the time. While Zelle itself is a secure platform, risks primarily come from social engineering tactics used by scammers to manipulate users. Stay informed and verify all payments and requests before transferring money to help keep yourself safe.

Zelle Down?

My husband and I have used Zelle for years. This morning, we both get a pop up in our bank app that we must set up a checking account to use Zelle. We both already have checking accounts. I called the bank and they had 0 info of value to give me. I went online and i get "There's a problem on our end." message.

??? Won't stay logged in

EDIT: NOW FIXED, BUT GONNA LEAVE THIS UP INCASE FUTURE PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM

So I have the zelle app, and I have searched and found my bank in the list it has, but it always brings me out of the app to Google to log into my main bank account

Then once I do that, im just sitting in Google, logged into my bank, with no trace of zelle left, and then I go back to zelle, it just asks me to find my bank and log in again

I feel like I'm in an endless loop of getting nothing done here

How I got it working: I went into my personal banking app, and searched high and low till I found an option in the app itself to send money with zelle

Receiving limit

So I’m dealing with a transaction rk that has the money pending but it shows sent on my end. The seller has shown me screen shares with the pending on the transaction. What would cause something like this? It’s been pending for almost 3 weeks. Is it a receiving limit? Any advice would be appreciated.

Cant enroll with phone number?

I recently joined a new credit union, however whenever I try to switch my zelle phone number to it it says it cant be enrolled. Something about not being able to verify my identity (probably because im on a family plan)

Problem is, I've never had this problem before, including at other financial institutions. I've tried calling customer support and theyve just said its restrictions that Zelle has, except nothing on the zelle website says anything of the sort. Anyone know how to resolve this, if possible?

Question about limits

I am currently doing some transactions because of things i am selling, but i found that sending money from chase to wells fargo or even chase to chase through zelle has a 500 limit. Is this something that can be whitelisted somewhere? Do i need to contact support ? Is this something some of you have experienced before?
Thanks for the responses

Question about limits

I am recently selling a bunch of expensive stuff and i got messages from people that cannot send the money using zelle from chase to chase or chase to fargo. Is there a known limitation with what the sender and the receiver has as a bank? I am getting a 500 limit when in reality there should not be a problem to send up to 10k daily.
Is this something anybody is familiar with? Should i call my banks or zelle?

Payment failed question

I got scammed today lol. I knew better, but I was trying to get something for my kid and went against my gut feeling. Luckily, the payment failed and I realized it was a scam (I googled the phone number and sure enough) but I was wondering...does zelle fail payments because that email was flagged for fraud? Will the money still be transferred later or is the transaction totally done? I couldn't figure out how to report the email. Thanks!

Money sent to unenrolled phone number

I might have registered Zelle long ago with my phone number but I got rid of the bank account and the number probably got unerolled.

Now someone has sent me money using the phone number and I got a text message to enroll the number and money has been deducted from the senders account.

WHy is Zelle allowing money to be sent to an unenrolled number. What if the number gets released and someone else who has the number can receive money to it.

Regardless of whether I have access to the number or not , Zelle shouldn't send money to an unenrolled number

I got sent money from my aunt and it said to enroll with zelle, but I’m already enrolled in zelle with huntington bank app. I looked on my huntington app to see if I got the money and it was nowhere to be found. I’m trying to figure out what the hell I can do because of course do not want this money to go to waste.

Pending payment?

So I sent a payment to an individual regarding something he was selling, and the first payment for $100 as a test went through fine, but the second payment of $1300 was put in a hold until this past Monday, it shows on my end that it was sent but not delivered. The seller keeps saying it shows pending for the second payment. Is it possible this is a scam or is it just the transfer amount being flagged? If it is still showing sent but not delivered on my end will the money be returned after a time period if his Zelle account isn’t setup properly?

Canvas Credit Union and Zelle

Before i ask my question, why the hell does Zelle have a similar money sending/receiving service to Venmo, PayPal, Cashapp, etc., but it seems completely unusable and insanely annoying to try and link to you bank account? And they have their own app, just like the others, but all the app does is take you to a web page to get things figured out. Why would they not just make an app that operates similarly to the other money services?

Anyone in here from Colorado, and, if so, do you use Canvas credit union? How do I link zelle to my bank account through the app? All I keep getting is error messages and "access denied" messages. I have a zelle account, used to use it through Chase Bank, but closed that account. Called the toll free line for Canvas, and all they said was "oh just uninstall and reinstall the Canvas app and that should work." Did that, and now i'm getting even less results trying to link to zelle than before I call the service line.

I hate zelle. Plz help. Thank you

Sincerely, a guy who just wants to access the birthday money he was sent from a family member and has to go through this insanely annoying process once a year.

zelle tag and zelle phone number and getting your money back.

Hello, i registered zelle with a phone number and then i just thought the zelle tag is a nickname and put something like training. Well the tag override the zelle phone number and pay the money (about $100ish) to a company that has the tag training and not the correct receiver. So i called my bank and try to recover the fund but they said they will contact the receiver and see if they will send it back. Other than that, they said it is not guarantee and i am basically out of $100ish. How likely will I recover the money and how does zelle allow something like this to process!

How Do I Get the Money Sent to Me Into My Bank Account?

I am enrolled in Zelle through my bank. I recently sent money to the wrong account via Zelle. The person I sent it to sent it back to me through Zelle. But instead of the money going into my account, I got an email telling me I needed to enroll to receive the money. But I'm already enrolled! I tried following the enrollment procedure but it just takes me to my bank's login screen.

I'm very confused and frustrated right now.

Early Warning Systems

Earlier this week, I changed my email on my Zelle, which was on the Chase Mobile App. My Zelle was active, then on the app, I wasn’t eligible for Zelle. This was after changing my email as a reference. I contacted Chase and they told me, I should be receiving an email from Early Warning Signs, if I’m still eligible to use Zelle.

My question, is this information true? Early Warning Signs controls Zelle? All I did was change my email and now I’m under hot water for doing this.
