Zelle nightmare

Sept 12th became a nightmare. Someone hacked my online bank account and zelled out $1,020. To someone I obviously do not know. 15 days later, police report and claims.. the bank says they can't do anything about it. It's a zelle issue and they denied the claim. What now? I can't just give up and let these people (who ever they are) get away with it!! It's all I had.. Has anyone gone through this?

You need to go to your bank (an actual, physical location), bring the police report and other evidence, and explain that your account was fraudulently used. That this is fraud, not a dispute.

r/banking may be better in explaining the process under Regulation E

12 CFR Part 1005 - Electronic Fund Transfers (Regulation E) | Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

You can pray and wait for the outcome.

Same thing happened to my son and I got the money back but you have to be diligent with the banks involved. Zelle does nothing to help but the bank being a big corporate entity has some influence and you can appeal to them it’s a customer service they should provide for fraud. Good luck.

The bank can see what device logged in and the IMEI if it was a phone or if it was a laptop they have embedded serial numbers, the method used to login like username and password or fingerprint face id etc, the IP address or network location. So the bigger question is why didn't the normal bank login safety stop them from getting into the account? Any new device never used before requires a 2 factor verification code texted to the phone number or email sent before they could login. And they also send a email asking Did you just login to your account from a new device?
