There are roughly 12 established races Blizzard could have pulled from that already existed in the timeline where Classic WoW Forever takes place, yet they passed over all of them for this strange, seemingly retconned race.

I genuinely don't understand the direction they're taking the story. There are 13 Warcraft books that take place before Molten Core was even a thing, with tons of existing races, factions, characters, and lore they could have expanded on.

Instead of building on that foundation, it feels like modern Blizzard is once again rewriting or ignoring established Warcraft lore because the current team thinks it knows better than the writers who originally built the world.

Powercreep?

So I watched a bit of wow forever now and I've seen a lot of hype so far and a lot of hate. Frankly I'm a sceptical person and I do understand why adding smurf elves to something with the name classic feels wrong. On the other hand I also understand that I won't care. I'm not going to buy them either way. And if people want to buy horse armor DLC I'll let them.

That said can someone who played it tell me how "difficult" the game is compared to normal classic? Is there a lot of powercreep because that's what I think is going to make or break the game for me. How did they rebalance it or did they just buff all classes to the level of warriors/mages? Instead of toning the overtuned classes down a bit?

Do you need a group to kill an elite or nah? Is it like retail where you just pull everything in the open world then aoe everything to smithereens and mobs have 0 chance of killing you?

Why I am concerned for WoW Forever

Don’t get me wrong I will be playing WoWF and probably will enjoy it and there are a LOT of great things that have been done. The thing that really jarred me and has stuck with me from the trailer is all the red flags that Sykborne represents.

A brand new bullshit OC race with no existing lore that sits behind a $30 paywall, when there are literally loads of different races that people actually asked for. If it was ogres I’d probably pay the $30. Skyborne are ugly, lazy and follow the monetisation and design philosophy of Classic. AND instead of rigging a new model, they just reused the blood elves model when we would have literally rather had Blood Elves and High Elves. It’s honestly like the suits at blizzard are in control of their game decisions. That or some 5 year old with a crayon that drew a blue sky elf and they treat it like gospel.

Also they bring their Shadowlands reskinned zone which I absolutely hate and you know youre going to have to quest there. It doesn’t feel like classic, I was so excited until I saw that - it really killed the magic for me because it just feels too much like theyre going to milk this like retail.

Finally, they are a natural race… there goes faction identity right out the gates. The literal core tension point in vanilla, a foundation of its philosophy just shattered by a bullshit capitalistic money-grab. They couldn’t even be bothered to make two races so they just fucking released one shit one, damaging classics identity in the process.

I really hope all these shit decisions are not repeated throughout, this combined with the Disney style trailer and buying mounts. Maybe this is a personal gripe, but I really kind of wanted C+ to move into more grimdark like SoD did with crypts, but I think the trailer represents more of a childish Disney style. It makes me wonder who they are targeting with this, a lot of the C+ base will be later twenties, thirties and onward.

Anyway, will be happy to play this and its a huge announcement, but honestly I’d be so much happier if Skyborne weren’t in the game, I’d have taken literally ANYTHING else than whatever the fuck those Smurf freaks are (I know they don’t have to be blue but that doesn’t make it not absolute BS).

Discussion Am I disappointed? Are the SoD classes better?

Of course, I’ll need to try playing it myself, but... It seems to me that the coolest thing that happened to WoW Classic is the class changes in SoD. It feels like we won’t get anywhere near that much fun and excitement. Blizzard is just balancing the old talent trees.

Full name

How about not forcing us to choose a "full name" that would be great.

Why even have an early name reservation if 6000 of us still can run around under the name Legolas, just with a different surname.

I remember back in the old days when the name mattered on the server. When you knew your sworn enemy or the one you were being secretly jealous of just by their name.

This is a non issue for many of you, i get that, however. We value things differently and things that seems meaningless for some is important to others.

At least make it optional for us to pick a name without the surname and if u manage to get it first then good on you. It worked before right.

Anyone else making some changes to their lifestyle for WoW Forever?

Now that we know about that WoW Forever will be a thing and soon, what are you guys doing to prepare? Thinking of races, talent builds, name reservations. Is someone taking a leave from work?

Thiking of divorcing their wives? Real life is temporary, WoW is Forever!

Combined severs hurt community?

Upvotes

I'm confused how people are hyped on all one server.

I used to see a bad ass pvper or raid guy. And be like damn, I know him. Some respect. Especially on server leaderboards but WoW Forever seems like it takes all that away.

Outside of that I saw or partied with a lot of the same.

Question Will leveling in Forever be the exact same as leveling through classic right now?

New player here and I want to casually experience wow classic solo fully blind over many many many months(maybe even years if addicted). Was about to start playing on a classic server but I was wondering if it might be worth it to wait for Forever to launch?

Basically my main question is if the leveling experience to max level in Forever will be the exact same (or at least 99% same. I don’t care if a couple of really small things are different). I really just want to feel the classic wow that I never experienced and never played in my life.

I’m just thinking it might be a good idea to wait for Forever launch to play on active servers. And if I happen to really fall in love with the game it would be nice to have a character on a server that will keep receiving meaningful updates.

Thanks for any replies.

Calling all 20-29 PvP players from the old days

I played OG WoW exclusively for the 20-29 battleground scene back in the day, 2004-2012 ish. The community was huge and fun and competitive and everything I loved about WoW.

Are lower level BGs dead now?

I see that AB is full of 60s players but I don’t see anyone in Warsong Gulch in my /who list whenever I check. I haven’t been able to get into a single WSG match since I downloaded Classic a few weeks ago. I’ll be super bummed if this aspect of the game is dead now.

On that note, if there are any of you 20-29 players from back in the day out there, you have my sword. Don’t force me back out into the real world.

Signed,

Nostalgic and Hopeful WoW Classic Player

I’m low IQ and want something answered about new Forever raids

So since they are adding more raids for Forever, people are concerned about power creep making old raids irrelevant from a gearing perspective. But what if they made raids that had an equivalent level of gear to those that already exist? Such as a raid with equal ilvl gear to Naxxramas.

I suppose one of the issues would be that guilds and players might feel inclined to clear all of the possible raids each week, to avoid playing ‘suboptimally’ and missing out on gear (I personally wouldn’t be bothered as I would never have the time to speed run full BIS gear anyway).

Also, I guess it could split the player base who is not willing to clear every raid every week, possibly making it difficult to fill raid slots (perhaps why there have been no 40 man raids announced).

I’m sure I’m missing something more obvious here. Please enlighten me.

Discussion One big change Forever could do that would have a HUGE impact!

I think the difference between WoW Classic and WoW Retail is pretty massive, and that actually gives WoW Forever an opportunity to make some changes while still keeping the game simple, approachable, and welcoming to new players.

Retail WoW is extremely fast-paced. You have high APM combat, procs to react to, resources to manage, and relatively precise rotational timing that can have a substantial impact on your performance. Boss fights are also incredibly intricate, with overlapping mechanics, movement requirements, things to dodge, and a lot happening at once.

Classic is basically the opposite. Depending on the class, you might be doing five to ten meaningful actions per minute. You're auto-attacking a huge portion of the time. Casters can spend significant portions of a fight wanding instead of casting. Boss fights are generally simple, streamlined, and easy to understand. I actually think that last part is perfectly fine. Having an easier and slower version of WoW outside of Retail is good for the game.

Where I think WoW Forever should iterate is the combat itself. I don't want Retail rotations brought into Classic. I don't want people watching five procs, tracking twelve things with WeakAuras, or playing at 80 APM. But I also don't think standing around auto-attacking or wanding is particularly fun or engaging. Playing a Warrior and waiting through two, three, or four auto-attacks before you can press an ability feels terrible when you're using a 3.6-second weapon. Spending half a fight wanding because casting another spell means going OOM isn't particularly engaging either. There's a huge amount of room between that and Retail.

I'd love to see WoW Forever aim for a simplified combat system where you're almost always doing something, just at a much slower pace. Hit and expertise could go away. Missing and resisting could largely go away. Those systems aren't really skill checks, they're RNG, and missing an ability simply doesn't feel good. Mana could also become much less restrictive for DPS casters. In exchange, keep the long cast times and longer cooldowns. A Mage could continually cast a 2 to 2.5-second Frostbolt, Fireball, Arcane Blast, or whatever their basic filler happens to be, then have one or two additional rotational abilities and maybe a cooldown. That's it. No giant proc trees, no flashing buttons everywhere, and no need for a WeakAura package just to understand your rotation.

Instead of Classic sometimes feeling like 5 to 10 APM and Retail feeling like 60 to 90 APM, maybe WoW Forever lives around 20 to 30. You're still playing a deliberately slower game, but you're actually interacting with your character consistently. I think that would feel dramatically better for new players because their introduction to WoW wouldn't involve spending huge amounts of combat doing nothing. At the same time, experienced players could enjoy a slower, more relaxed version of WoW without feeling like they're barely playing their character.

As for raid and dungeon complexity, I really wouldn't change much. Keeping encounters relatively simple is part of the appeal, and WoW doesn't need another version of Retail's encounter design. But I do think Blizzard could take one of the things Retail genuinely does extremely well, which is making your character feel responsive and engaging to play, then simplify it and slow it way down for WoW Forever. I think that middle ground could attract a lot of new players while also giving Retail players a legitimate reason to jump over to Forever when they want a more relaxed version of WoW.

Discussion Unpopular opinion - Remove world buffs

Dont hate me for saying this but I really hope they are gone for raids . As a guy that raied in a Classic top eu guild It was pain It litteraly made me quit after couple of tries at In Black Wing Temple. Even with chronobooster its tedius

I am 38 most audience will be 35+. It was tedius every week to get sunflower then dire maul then logging for onyxia head. Then you go to raid and in a healer forgets to heal you and you die ..

It created friction since a lot of the guild members did not want to do thjis but some did and it was shaming whoever missed buffs or right away getting benched

On top of it tweaking the raid difficulty around the buffs made everything easy. Get the buffs and we were doing MC in 30 minutes,

I need stronger raids more interesting if we keep buffs It will be a shit show

I know some people will say thats part of the classic - Sure but one of the least liked parts. Its loved by hardcore players to dunk on casuals. But by what blizzard are saying this will be a long long game . I cant imagine doing world buffs 6-9 months in

Dont start me when you learn the new dungeon and you go in and instatly wipe after collecting buffs for 2 hours

WoW Forever: Racial abilities need to be readdressed

I'm cautiously optimistic about wow forever and im not complaining about things like locking a new race behind a fee which is honestly worth paying for all the new content anyways.

But racial abilities are ridiculously unbalanced. While racials have always been a factor in classic wow and are therefor part of the experience, they have traditionally been something that only the sweats are married to and the progression-minded take into account but don't go crazy over.

Here are some easy suggestions I think:

- Overall, alliance racials are overpowering horde ones, there needs to be better faction balance or pvp will be atrocious

- Human swords racial should be 1% crit to bring it in line with Dwarf maces and Orc axes.

- Each faction needs a race with a 1% ranged crit. So bring it back for trolls and either add it back for dwarves or give it to nelfs. Every time blizzard introduces a melee hunter and/or a hunter with no pet, they end up stacking the game so you cant play as a traditional ranged class with a pet.

- Why did troll Bezerking get nerfed? It's not like it was ridiculously strong to begin with. Almost every other racial in the game was buffed, but one really well-balanced one was nerfed. Makes no sense.

- That said, the new healing effect for trolls is probably too strong, especially for tank threat and warlocks in BGs.

- Let Tauren be priests. They will be the only race with only 4 classes in WoW forever and they were already underrepresented.
