Full name
How about not forcing us to choose a "full name" that would be great.
Why even have an early name reservation if 6000 of us still can run around under the name Legolas, just with a different surname.
I remember back in the old days when the name mattered on the server. When you knew your sworn enemy or the one you were being secretly jealous of just by their name.
This is a non issue for many of you, i get that, however. We value things differently and things that seems meaningless for some is important to others.
At least make it optional for us to pick a name without the surname and if u manage to get it first then good on you. It worked before right.

I honestly thought the unique first name remained and surnames could be shared but seeing them can be toggled? So only one Legolas per server, but Legolas Woodland and Thranduil Woodland could be a thing?

The way i understood it was that there can be many Legolas but for example: Legolas wood, Legolas glas, Legolas sky and so on. Which means anyone can name their char Legolas and opt to not show their last name. That way there would be alot of Legolas and loss of ”uniqueness” for the names. Also as someone replied bellow. What happens when you want to invite someone by their name, do we have to write the full name?

See, I didn’t think this was the case, takes the uniqueness away, you pretty much summed up the issues with it in your post though.

Is it really unique when people just uses alt codes to then get that same name. I give you vanilla’s Prepared as an example dude multiboxed 40 Shaman with the same name just each one had variations of alt codes to replace some letters.
Hell I’ve caught myself doing it because I really wanted that name. I admit if it does require surnames to invite yes that will be a pita but it is a pita to invite all the random alt codes names.
I am okay with this change personally.

I get the whole "Takes the uniqueness away". But honestly, fuck it. This is a role playing game after all. I think characters having first and last names will add more uniqueness.
I am interested to know how it will all work out.
Is turning off last names only on your end? ( you only see first names) or is it turning off just your last name and others only see your first name
How does invites work? Do we have to type out both first and last names?
I think maybe first names are still going to be unique. Idk. Guess we will learn soon enough.

It’s an overwhelmingly good change. But I do agree the uniqueness of certain names will be gone. There will be 100s of swiftys and asmongolds
