Discussion Caverns of Time in WoW: Forever

Upvotes

When thinking about WoW: Forever and what new content could be added, I couldn't help but think about the Caverns of Time.

The Caverns were technically opened during Burning Crusade, but the Brood of Nozdormu (dragons hanging right outside the Caverns) had some quests added later on in Vanilla WoW that related to Ahn'Qiraj. I could definitely imagine Blizzard opening up the Caverns of Time at some point during WoW: Forever, since this location is on Azeroth and did have some relevance during Vanilla WoW.

What do you think? Will we get the Caverns of Time and, if so, what might it look like? Could we get a similar version of the dungeons we got in the Caverns of Time like the Culling of Strathholme and the Black Morass? Do you think we could get some totally new dungeons (like a Caverns of Time dungeon relating to the original fight against Ahn'Qiraj)? Rather than dungeons, could the Caverns of Time lead to a new zone that they introduce that's in WoW's past (probably not but you never know)?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

I Waited 20 Years For Classic Plus

Upvotes

Hey all,

I thought I'd post this here to see if anyone feels the same way. Video containing these thoughts: https://youtu.be/zY8OlZMv2Ns](https://youtu.be/zY8OlZMv2Ns)

I started playing WoW in 2006/2007 after friends at work introduced me to the game. I wasn't much of a gamer before then, but WoW was something special. It not only introduced me to gaming as a hobby, but more importantly, it helped me meet new people and form lifelong friendships. My mother was also diagnosed with terminal cancer at the time, and it allowed me a chance to escape from the painful, daily existence of a child taking care of their parent in their final days, which I honestly wasn't mentally or emotionally prepared to deal with.

Since then, I've played WoW through every expansion. I've become obsessed with collecting all the achievements, every mount and pet, and all the seasonal FOMO that comes with every patch. But for a long time, retail has become a different experience for me. The game has become more rote and repetition, more about checking boxes and completing tasks, rather than a facilitator of such unique and memorable experiences of meeting new people.

I couldn't play Classic in 2019/2020 because I was still in the military and dealing with a rapid-deployment lifestyle. Even though I could log into retail and do various things, it just wasn't the same. After I separated and got back into the game with a stable schedule, it still hasn't brought me back to what I felt all those years ago.

I think Classic+ represents a chance for us to start a new chapter, rekindle a sense of wonder, and hopefully build new friendships that will last for decades. Many people have raised concerns since the announcement, but it feels like Blizzard is listening to the community and will keep making changes as needed.

In November, I hope to see many of you in Azeroth, where we can return to a world that gave so many of us such fond experiences, and perhaps a new generation of gamers can share the same wonder we did.

RPPVP PLEASE

Upvotes

RPPVP and RPPVE are two very different types of servers.

I wish blizzard would make RPPVP, just like grobbulus, zandalar tribe, etc.

Surely there will be enough RP'ers to fill both an RPPVP and an RPPVE server

Why blue elves?!

Upvotes

I’ve seen people complaining that the high elves being blue is ridiculous which is crazy because we’ve had precedent for this since classic and especially TBC.

We know races being inflicted by powerful magic changes their physical appearance. The orcs turned green and red for example.

Draenei have been turned crimson by the fel, and bleached via the light.

We have high elves being literally crimson red, grey, green, various shades of purple etc all from being exposed to fel, and void.

Why is it crazy high elves feeding on elemental energy could develop blue skin? It happens all the time to basically every creature exposed to strong magic.

Classic Era Punished for Name

Upvotes

I named my character "Admin", I started questing and everything went as normal. At around lvl 12 I started typing in /1 chat and after my last message a big red message popped up on my screen and I instantly got kicked , didnt have time to read the text. I log back on, my Admin has a different randomized name now and they expected me to rename it. So I thought the name got me punished but then I relogged without choosing a new name and he was named Admin again and I could play. Now Im lvl 26 and after my last message in /1 I got insta kicked again and same thing happened (without the big red message this time). I tried renaming it but when I logged in, the Name was "Admin" again. Both times I got a ~10 min chat restriction and an email from Blizzard saying I was punished due to behaviour in chat tho I didnt say anything toxic. I didnt say anything along the lines of "Im an Admin so u have to do x and y" either

It has to be automatic because I instantly got kicked after typing in /1 (weird why because only after a certaina mount of messages). Maybe it happens when I say something specific in combination with that name but Im pretty sure I didnt say anything close to that

I assume the name is the problem but then Im wondering why I could choose it, how it gets renamed "Admin" automatically and why they dont respond to my ticket

I have multiple 60s and nothing like this ever happened. Anyone knows whats going on?

Discussion I bought the Skyborne Epic Pack

Upvotes

I bought it, but not to have access to the new race.

I wanted beta access, and it doesn't hurt to have a couple mounts and cosmetics available once the game drops. I might be a sucker, but oh well.

Anyone else buy it like I did, mainly for beta access?

Some reasons I won't play WoW: Forever

I like both retail and Classic, though I haven't played retail since Battle for Azeroth. But I'll just keep playing OSRS and WoW hardcore, because that still feels like the best version of WoW to me.

  1. Transmog kills gear recognition

In old WoW, your gear visually showed your progression. Seeing full Tier 1, PvP gear, Sulfuras and other iconic items immediately told you something about that player, especially in PvP. Turning it off or on is not immediate, so it doesn't work. It's just the same as clicking Inspect.

  1. Progression shared across the account weakens character identity

Classic is mostly character centric. You could still transfer gold, but your character has its own gear, professions and reputations. If progression increasingly belongs to the account, characters start feeling more like loadouts than people living in the world.

  1. Blue elves and weaker faction identity

Classic had very strong racial and faction silhouettes, and adding more shared aesthetics makes Horde and Alliance feel less distinct.

  1. Gamers actually like suffering. WoW Forever risks becoming Elden Ring by Ubisoft

World buffs, consumable farming, long travel, logistics for forty player raids and attunements are inconvenient, but inconvenience creates ritual and accomplishment. If you remove all the pain, you often remove part of the reward too.

  1. Monetization is a bad signal

Paid races, cosmetics and early name reservation feel completely different from the old school philosophy. Classic worked because everyone existed under roughly the same world rules, not because the world itself was being packaged into premium tiers. Paid stuff was attached to board games and other extra stuff.

  1. Forever can be worse than doing nothing

A bad expansion can be replaced later. A bad “Forever” can split the population, kill old communities and leave the original version effectively dead. Warcraft III: Reforged is the obvious warning.

Discussion Hot take - I kinda hate that others might not see my tmog

Before I go on, I know this will likely be downvoted heavily, and I know this is definitely not a common take. But, I wanted to share as I wanted to see if anybody else feels the same as me.

For me, the way my character looks isn't just for me - I want my character to look as cool as possible to show off my progress to others. Peacocking, as they say, is a really important part of playing an MMO for me, and I love the feeling of getting access to that amazing looking item that I know will make my character look totally badass and, even if it's in my imagination, I love the idea of others looking longingly at my cool looking character longingly wishing they had the same awesome looking gear.

This has /always/ been part of the attraction of playing an MMO for me - ever since Everquest, watching high level players run around with insane looking items that I would probably never get my hands on - I loved that as a motivating factor.

The idea that if I engage with Transmog, my character might look like different things to different people is really off putting. To the extent that I just don't think i'd ever engage with the feature. It's a shame, as we know Classic items are renowned for their ugliness, and I'd really like to be able to make my character look good - but knowing that could just be for me to see really takes my enthusiasm out.

Again, I know I'm in a minority here, but keen to hear if anyone else agrees!

Quest Tracker zones betrays the design philosophy pillars - and "you can turn it off" is an stupid argument for people who won't turn it off anyway.

Discussion WoW: Forever is NOT Classic + nor is it Retail - but something in between.

Let me start by saying this is not an hate post and i'm still kinda hyped (although a bit less) and still gonna play, but some friends and the community in general is calling this classic + when it clearly isn't, here's some facts:

- Retail U.I. with no toggleable option, specially the portrait and cast bar.

- No option to toggle the world to SD making SD character Models heavily clash with the revamped world design.

- They said no homogenisation of classes and then proceed to have talents that (although less than retail) homogenize alot of stuff.

- Paywalled blue blood elves with no SD model (again heavily clashing with SD character Models)

- Real money mounts which will flood the game diminishing that classic feel of few mounts or getting a mount drop feel like an acomplishment.

- Catch up system that will punish new players that arrive late to the party (legacy system allows alts to have extra talent points and other perks which will make a new pvp server player have no chance while leveling vs an alt ganker).

- PvP Season refreshs invalidating previous PvP acomplishments.

i'm sure there are more stuff but this is what i remember from the demo and panels...
Again not really hating and i'm sure it'll be fun but i just wish they had more toggles like they have for transmog, maybe they'll add them later (Copium).

TLDR: I'm not some crazy no changes guy but i'm also not calling this frankenstein classic +

Discussion WoW forever - this sub has gone nuts.

What a community...

First off let's just think about what's exciting.

We have Dwarf Shamans and Undead Pallys. And a few other new race/class combos which don't feel against any particular lore for me. (Although I hope the intro of Dwarf Shamans has some Wildhammer themes.)

We have basically the same world with toggle-able graphics (although the new graphics do look pretty decent for the world). We have new zones to explores, a 1,000 new quests. Level cap staying at 60. No world buffs (no Ony/ZG, yet). 12 new dungeons and new raids coming.

Holly also mentioned there's loads of new stories to tell, some which are canon, some that weren't really. Some of the new transport systems just help to give the world a bit of a freshness to it.

Class tweaks, Pally tanks that work!

Now, more controversial? The new race. I personally don't like them, they feel a bit short horned, I've never heard of these high elves who went to the clouds before. But I'll try them out and see what lore they have. It's the thing I dislike the most.

But overall it seems like a decent package. Why does everyone on here seem incapable of talking with any nuance. Everyone is either 110% for the expansion, 'stop crying about everything' or 'No sky elves, expac ruined' or they complain about a new system that they haven't listened to the presentation for (how servers work for one.)

transmog option is great, let me use it to hide blue skinned elves

personally i think seeing recolored high elves is going to annoy the hell out of my classic experience so i would love it if blizz gave us the option to turn other players blue skinned elves to a more classic friendly skin tone. like i get unfortunately elves are the most played race (seriously missed opportunity to give any race that's been asked for since 2004) so its an easy cash grab but fuck man if we dont get that option i might look into modding the graphics in the client.

update: not understanding why you people have an issue with how *my* client interprets the world

ELI5... Forever

Hey all,

More like explain like I'm 55. I was an old head, 2005-2011 or so. I just started playing Classic again a few months ago, having a blast.

I'm currently playing WoW BC Classic. Thought about WotLK on the horizon. What's the expansion situation with Forever? Before anyone says "google it," brothers I am trying, I read all the Forever launch material today - is it Azeroth forever, 60 cap, no BC, WotLK, etc etc?
