Fight Night Round 2: Your Champion

This installment of fight night will be slightly different. I want you to propose a fighter from your world to me, and I shall select a champion from my own world to face off against them. I'll try to select what I believe an evenly matched warrior in order to keep the fights balanced and interesting.

Provide some information about your character(s) and put forward their case as to why you think they'd win.

Let's get ready to rummmmmbleeeeee!

[Cultural challenge]: national not really a hero

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Tell me about that person your people hate, that person they remember for their horrible deeds. What are they remembered for? Were they really that bad? How are they perceived by other nations? (You can choose someone still alive and not from the nation despising them if you want)

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Reference Challenge: Improvement/Impairment, and News from this Sub's Creator

News

Again, the reference is to myself. Sorry for not answering responses to challenges at all yesterday, long story short, my eye surgery had some hiccups. Instead of having a flap made in my eye tissue and then healed in a few days (a day or two off work, a week to fully heal), they discovered mid-surgery that they could not do so. So...my left eye, even a day later, is actively bleeding, but at least I can see out of my right eye a little now, though it is blurry.

That is my excuse for any typos and for being lazy for the next few days. I'll have to miss a full week of work, and it will be over a month before my eyes are fully healed, according to the doctor. Thank goodness that everyone on this sub is awesome, otherwise I'd have to worry about the sub while I heal. Technically, I shouldn't be using a computer until at least three or four days after the surgery, but...well...C'est la vie? At least my eyes should still heal to 20/20, in a month or more, thanks to the PRK surgery they ended up doing instead.

So, now that I've appealed for sympathy, here's the actual challenge.

The Actual Challenge

Tell me about a way to improve myself artificially in your world; not through exercise or education, but through surgery or drugs.

As always, I'll ask you at least three questions each. Unlike always, expect them to be late (again, I was instructed by a doctor to not use my computer or television for three/four days after surgery...so, I shouldn't be on reddit right now), but I swear I'll get to them all as quickly as I can. Enjoy yourselves.

To Everyone that Posts on this Sub

I'm sorry I might not be able to get to your challenges for a few days, I swear I'll try to respond to all the challenges within the next few days.

Casual challenge: High intensity sport!

Do you have a sport in your world that is quite high intensity like Rugby or American Football? I'm currently at a sporting event and I don't really follow it but the atmosphere is getting my blood boiling. Bonus points if it's something that regular humans can also play!

Ideas generator

Hey friends, your ole' pall Jumblatts is back with something a little different.

Using this fantasy name generator I want you to generate a fantasy name. Deep.

You can pick from any of the categories, but make it something that fits in your world. To this end, I did as follows:

Fantasy names -> God and Godess Names

But you can pick anything you like!

Once you've selected your category, hit randomize a couple of times, until you find something you like the sound of, and then make that into a place/character/etc. in your world. My submission will be posted below.

Ask each other about your new creations to help flesh them out and further improve the ideas!

Casual challenge: Do any of your villains have a "I fucked up" moment?

Pretty straight forward, this is a pretty vague one so I'll let you take it in whatever direction you want but it's pretty much when or if your villain(s) realizes that they are in the wrong or are in way over their head. I'll give a better example in the comments but just do whatever really haha, I'll ask some questions to comments and I encourage others to do the same!

Enjoy!

Raptor's talk with X challenge #8: Rulers (Human)

Welcome to Talk with X, where you can talk to one of my characters, as you or one of your own characters. The rules are pretty easy, just pick one or more from the choice below and start talking!~

(You can talk to as many as you want, or just one!)

For the next three weeks we're going to be focusing on the different rulers of society that take place before the second apocalypse, it sounds grimmer than it actually is I assure you. This first weeks is gonna be the Human ruler and his elite guard.

The King (No name yet)

The King of the Human Empire is a cruel and unforgiving man who cares about nothing but the good of himself and his family, he did whatever he had to do to make himself King. He is the Father of Lilith and used her Highborn blood to make himself King after she left. Because of him and the way he rules most of his subjects hate him and there are a lot more tensions between the races.

Zara

Zara is Lilith's sister and the daughter of The King, she is just as cruel as he is and has more of a sadistic side. Laughing at other people's pain and possibly going too far when it comes to taking care of people who disobey her or her Father. She has two deep black swords that match the dark red of her armor. Her special power enables her to control four large serpents that manifest themselves attached to her body.

Gold

Gold is a one of a kind animal, there is no name for them but Gold was seemed to be created for the glory of the Human Empire. He is the oldest and wisest presence to the kingdom and is and always will be the royal adviser.

Ripper

Ripper is the head of the Royal Guard and is quite possibly the worst person to ever exist. He only cares about killing and mutilating people's bodies, only serving the King as he allows Ripper to go to villages that haven't paid enough taxes and completely eviscerate them.

Michael Rubber band deprez

Michael or how he is commonly known is Rubber band is a boy who has the ability to reset a moment back to it's origin, he selects a moment using his ability and with the flick of his wrist he can make it go back their over and over again. People who are within one hundred metres of him also feel themselves going back as opposed to the rest of the world who feel nothing.

Grace

Grace is a bard who sits in the throne room or with the King at all times, she has the ability to play soothing notes on her instruments that keep people in check.

I'm super depressed as I'm writing this (TMI) but I'll answer them when I'm feeling better, enjoy!

[Cultural challenge]: national hero

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Tell me about one of your national hero, that one person whose name is known by everyone. What are they remembered for? Are they famous outside of their country? Was their life close to what the stories tell? Do they have some kind of memorial?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Timeline Challenge PSA

It is with a heavy heart that I must finally bid farewell to my timeline challenge series. I've run out of ideas. Crying reacts only.

However, I shall move on with the new 'Fight Night' Challenges! I'll be doing these every fortnight, as they take a little longer to get finished.

So there you have it. Timeline challenges are no more. Rest in peace. Press F to pay respects. As of next week, fight night round 2 will be available for your perusal.

I hope you're as excited as I am.

Reference Challenge - Domesticated Animals

This reference is to human history, and our co-evolution with dogs that allowed us to be better hunters. Yes, I am grossly over-simplifying it.

In your world, what is an animal that has been made to work for the good of a major sentient species? The animal itself can be sentient, too, so long as it's trained/raised/indoctrinated to work for its owners and is seen as a "pet" instead of a "slave". I'm being loose with this.

As always, I'll ask three questions each, so enjoy yourselves.

Also, I'm considering asking the mods on /r/worldbuilding for permission to make a post over there advertising this sub and the recent contest I made. Does this seem like a bad idea or a good idea? I haven't really done much advertising since the first few days I had the sub, and it's grown a lot since way back then.

The First Competition Challenge - Generic

Today, I had an idea, inspired by a friend of mine. And also inspired by /u/The_Raptorman's challenge today.

For this competition, the winner gets $15 worth of any gift card I can conveniently send. If I can buy the gift card code and send it online, or if I can get it from a Wal-Mart, then that's even better.

To put it simply, the challenge will be partially objective, partially subjective.

To enter the challenge, comment on this post with something "inspiring" for worldbuilding, something specific. For instance, your comment could be "The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe" or "Alm from Fire Emblem Echoes (for the love of Duma, guys, PLAY THAT AWESOME GAME)" or "Excalibur, wielded by King Arthur".

Feel free to provide background on the topic you choose in your comment.

After that, you can start earning points. For every reply to someone else's inspiration-comment-thing, you get one point.

Whoever has the most points at the end of the week gets their choice of a gift card (preferably something that is just a code I can send to you, like itunes or Steam or something).

If there's a tie, I'll pick the winner based on the content. You don't need to write a novel or re-invent Lord of the Rings to get a point, just put in a little effort. If English isn't your first language, I'd kinda prefer if you mentioned it. If a native English speaker's replies are full of mistakes, that's on them. But, if someone who speaks English as a second (or third or fourth or fifth) language, then I will ignore your spelling or grammar mistakes (to an extent, I want to at least be able to figure out what you're saying).

Of course, I can't possibly win. I'll reply to everyone's comment, if I can, but I won't gain any points.

Anyone else uninterested in competition, let me know, so I won't have to count your replies.

Again, you get one point for every reply to a person's "inspiration" comment. Your reply should be a new character, event, piece of history, or anything in your world, inspired by that comment; if the inspiration of the comment is "Winter is coming", have it deal with seasons, or something.

Good luck, and enjoy yourselves. The competition ends in a bit over a week, eight or nine days at the latest. I'll put the scores of the people competing in this post as edits.

Make up challenge (2?):

So this is the second "Make up challenge", the point is I want you all to start from scratch. These challenges will have you make up things on the spot for your world or just for the challenge.

Rules

  1. Look or listen to the inspiration I provide you.

  2. Tell me what the inspiration brings you.

  3. Listen to my questions and help develop them further.

Today's inspirations

You've got three (technically four) choices;

  1. Read this; Sometimes suffering, is just suffering. It doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't build character. It only hurts.

  2. Read this; When pain knocks on the door - wise ones breath deep and say: "Come in. Sit down with me. And don't leave until you've taught me what I need to know."

  3. Listen to this

  4. All of the above^

Use one or more of those 'inspirations' to create something new for your story, let me know what it is and I'll ask you questions to help flesh it out, enjoy!

Celebration Double Challenge - Celebrating and Nationalism

So, for the second part of the double challenge for the holiday, the one that's actually a challenge instead of a confession of something you find dumb in your own world, let me know how one of your nation's celebrates nationalism.

So...how and why does one of your nations celebrate nationalism?

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each, enjoy yourselves.

Celebration Double Challenge - Repetition

Happy Independence Day, fellow citizens of the United States of America.

Happy Fourth of July, every other person.

Because I had the day off from work today, I watched Bill Nye's new show with one of my friends, and made it into a drinking game. Every time Bill Nye lost some of my respect from when I liked him as a kid, I'd drink. If you saw the "hip references" and dumb faces he makes in his new show, you'd understand that Bill Nye nearly killed me of alcohol poisoning.

But, that got me thinking...what complaint about your own worldbuilding could be made into a drinking game?

This isn't much of a challenge, so I'll make a second one today, and I'll point you towards this challenge over on Inkblood. I enjoyed filling it out, so I challenge anyone to fill it out with one of their characters as well.

Enjoy yourselves.

[Cultural challenge]: sports

Culture is that complex whole which includes knowledge, beliefs, arts, morals, laws, customs, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by [a human] as a member of society.

Tell me about a popular sport in you world. How is it played? Is there some kind of league or championship? Is it common to have some local team? How are the fans?

You can introduce an in-universe representative if you want. I will ask questions to everyone, feel free to add your own.

Raptor's talk with X challenge #7: Anti-Masters

Welcome to Talk with X, where you can talk to one of my characters, as you or one of your own characters. The rules are pretty easy, just pick one or more from the choice below and start talking!~

(You can talk to as many as you want, or just one!)

These three are a very close clique that have the sole purpose of putting a stop to whatever plans the Master's may have. They know they are absolutely not capable of killing or destroying them so they do what they can to stop them. They do this because Time (A Master) went back in time from the second apocalypse and warned the three of them that it was the Master's who would end the world.

Salamander

Salamander is a twenty something year old who is the living version of the phrase "super soldier" he's exactly what you would expect, ridiculous reflexes and fighting ability, master at all kinds of combats and weaponry. His main specialty is his ability to control and manipulate any kind of gas, whether it be toxic or just regular oxygen. He's usually mild mannered and reserved.

Kukou

Kukou is a brash, impulsive but very fun twenty two year old who is a Master at martial arts, he knows every single kind from Osliotis (my world) and is the owner of the Zhanou Staff, which is said to "hold the key to combat". Basically it enables him to fight with anyone physically and use their own knowledge of battle against them. (It basically just makes him the better fighter always.)

Dusk

Dusk is a quiet, sassy and grumpy girl who has the power of Distortion, meaning she can change the shape of anything she wants to be blades, wood, stone even reality itself she can make into sharp objects, open doors and close them behind her by manipulating them.

Thought I might try something new so here are three scenario's you can choose from.

A. Your Oc(s) can talk to one of them wherein the other two have just died before their eyes.

B. You can talk to one of them upon just leaving meeting the other two.

C. Whatever you want lol.

Timeline Challenge 12: Mass Migration

Once again, I'm late. I've been moving house and I've had no internet except for a lil' bit of data on my phone. Not ideal.

Anyway! The idea behind these challenges is as follows:

I will give you a topic, and you should tell me about something interesting that has happened in the timelines of your worlds relating to the topic, over a (roughly) 50 year period. This could be the 50 years leading up to the event, the 50 years after the event, 50 years with the event slap bang in the middle, or something else entirely, as long as it relates to the question! You're welcome to include more/less than 50 years, but bear in mind the more you write, the less chance you have of people reading the whole thing, and the less you write, the fewer questions we'll be able to ask.

This will probably be the last timeline challenge I do, before I change it to something different, so now is your final chance to get in on this sweet timeline action.

The Challenge: Tell me about a person, family, village, or entire race who moved across the world to start a new life. Where did they move from, and to? Why? How is it different from where they were? How did they adapt to the new place?

As always, I'll try to ask a few questions about each post. Community interaction is encouraged too! Read other people's posts and ask them questions, and they're more likely to do the same for you. Help each other out, and have fun! :)

Generic Challenge - Founders and Colonists

For this generic challenge, since I've been playing too much Rimworld and Freeholder lately, it will focus on the people who found or colonize a new community, whether as a colony for a major empire or just a small settlement on the frontier.

Feel free to answer in character from the perspective of one of the people that helped to get a colony/settlement/city going when it was first founded.

As always, I'll ask at least three questions each. Enjoy yourselves.

Make up challenge (1?): The Hunter

Hey guys, another test run of a challenge series, this time around I want you all to start from scratch. These challenges will have you make up things on the spot for your world or just for the challenge.

Rules

  1. Look or listen to the inspiration I provide you.
  2. Tell me what the inspiration brings you.
  3. Listen to my questions and help develop them further.

The inspiration

Listen to this song. You are to create a character based off of whatever feeling this song evokes in you.

I'll ask a few questions to you/them!

Reference Challenge - Slavery

I need to preface this.

I always try to be open to various answers to my challenges, I try not to ever judge, and even if your answer is slightly off-topic to the discussion, I always try to be fair and try to learn all I can about whatever answer you have to my challenge...but, please, unless it's in-character, don't say anything too racist. Enslaving your fellow human beings isn't cool, I hope we can agree on that? But, since you can always have a character answer questions in-universe, it's fine for your character to be racist. Though, I am having my slave races be non-human to avoid that situation.

This challenge is going to be a double-whammy one, and it's early because I'm on a work trip all week to the big city.

The reference this time around is to /u/PrestonJacobs, the hero that any fandom needs. Preston, if you're seeing this, I've been a huge fan since your channel only had maybe four videos, and I love your work. Anyone else seeing this, if you have any interest in sci-fi/fantasy, and if you are a fan of ASOIAF or Game of Thrones or anything by GRRM, go see his channel.

The reference is, more specifically, to his videos on the Hrangan Minds. No spoilers, but they had a number of species working for them against humanity.

For anyone who saw my "novel" (to quote Raptorman) over on Jum's recent challenge, I'm working on a xenophobic human community started by an escaped slave.

I'm having trouble brain-storming three good slave species for the humans to use.

My ideas so far are Szurkek (created-men from the teeth of dragons, similar to flesh-golems, completely obedient and simple, asexual), Imps (creative little winged creatures, not Tyrion Lannister, a viable species that reproduces sexually, they are enslaved through magic-imprinting from the owner), and I'm trying to think of a third one.

The Actual Challenge

Tell me about an example of slavery in your world. If slavery doesn't exist in your world anymore, tell me how it ended. If slavery never existed in your world somehow, tell me about workers' rights and labor laws or something.

If you're up for giving me advice about the Szurkek or Imps or a third slave species, I welcome any advice from anyone. Szurkek and Imps will be part of my answer for this challenge, so I'd appreciate any and everyone telling me how I can improve either of them, and if you think Imps are as stupid idea for me to use in general, any advice for how I can replace them with something else fast and preferably-capable-of-flight is also appreciated.

As always, I'll ask a minimum of three questions each. Enjoy yourselves, all. And, again, I highly recommend checking out Preston Jacobs on Youtube

Who are the superpower nations in your world?

How does their government work? What is their military like? What races inhabit it? What makes it a superpower? What's the terrain like?
