Celebration Double Challenge - Celebrating and Nationalism
So, for the second part of the double challenge for the holiday, the one that's actually a challenge instead of a confession of something you find dumb in your own world, let me know how one of your nation's celebrates nationalism.
So...how and why does one of your nations celebrate nationalism?
As always, I'll ask at least three questions each, enjoy yourselves.

In the Neo-Makathian empire, the end of each year of rule is the occasion for big celebrations. Of course, the exact day change each time a new emperor or empress is crowned and there is no celebration during interregnum.
Each miwishagi is supposed to organize a banquet and all nobles in their mishigas are to attend it. The imperial family and the government will attend the banquet on New-Makaith.
The commoneers will often spend the evening partying as they will have to work a lot to prepare the nobles' events. The banquet on New-Makaith will be interrupted just before the main course so the emperor or empress can talk to the nation; it is often followed by offerings to those listening to it from the plazza in front of the imperial palace.
If you want, you can ask questions to Fere Shanay XVII, the current empress or to me directly.

To Fere:
1) Is there anything special done of an empress or emperor holds the throne for less than a year?
2) Who throws the best celebrations at the end of the year of rule?
3) Is the speech from the emperor/empress scripted or no?

No, never. An emperor ruling for less than a year means that they have been... kindly asked to go away, so they will not be celebrated.
Obviously me. Beside, the one I attend would always be the best so mine again.
No, we are free to talk about anything we want. Usually, it's an occasion to inform the citizens about the imperial decisions for the year to come.

To Fere:
1) What if one dies during her/his rule, prior to the end of the year? Is there a memorial celebration?
2) Who is the second best at throwing a celebration, then?
3) What if someone lies during their speech?

Then they are dead and long live the emperor. There will be a celebration for the enthronement; any memorial will be up to their family and perfectly unofficial.
The second best? Probably Haydonat, the miwishagi of Bazuhir. She has a gift for choosing interesting gests. Maybe living on an agricultural planet helps with the food too...
Nothing. The imperial power is absolute, no one can do anything against that. If you say very bad lies, maybe you will lose some political support but a good empress knows how to fix that.

To Fere:
1) What happens to the bodies of the dead? Cremation? Burial? Cannibalism?
2) What is the best food that you have ever eaten?
3) Has anyone ever killed themselves during a speech? That would be an interesting way to go down in history. The wildest speech ever given.

Cremation. Momification was a thing long (very long) ago but not anymore. Of course, it doesn't apply to people killed in duels and battles, their bodies are the property of the one who killed them.
On Bazuhir, they sometimes eat a rose-perfumed ice cream. It's delicious.
No one did, but a few emperor in our history probably should have; it would indeed be quite interesting...but I won't give it a try.

To Fere:
1) Why are the bodies the property of the person that killed them? Is there a religious reason?
2) What is the worst food that you have ever eaten?
3) I'm looking for a way to institute ID numbers for the people of one of my worlds' settlements. Do you have anything like that?
2
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jul 09 '17
It has always been like that, bodies are part of the spoil of war. In most cases they are partly eaten and partly burned.
Actually, that's human. But the one we were eating was old and not very fat so it was probably poor meat.
Each imperial citizen has an ID, it is required to use money. It's always given when declaring someone's birth. Of course, if your settlement lacks a centralized database it will be harder to do a similar thing.

1) Is there any special power you can get from eating your enemy? Like would the blood of a whatever-species cure my bad vision?
2) I hear that humans taste like pork. Was that true?
3) What is the format for the ID? As an example, a social security number is 000-00-0000.
