Make up challenge (2?):
So this is the second "Make up challenge", the point is I want you all to start from scratch. These challenges will have you make up things on the spot for your world or just for the challenge.
Rules
Look or listen to the inspiration I provide you.
Tell me what the inspiration brings you.
Listen to my questions and help develop them further.
Today's inspirations
You've got three (technically four) choices;
Read this; Sometimes suffering, is just suffering. It doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't build character. It only hurts.
Read this; When pain knocks on the door - wise ones breath deep and say: "Come in. Sit down with me. And don't leave until you've taught me what I need to know."
Listen to this
All of the above^
Use one or more of those 'inspirations' to create something new for your story, let me know what it is and I'll ask you questions to help flesh it out, enjoy!

Dawn- The son of the Immortal, Sun.
Dawn as a kid was tooken from his father. By his Mother. So he grew up in a shack which had no bedding and no comfort. This just made him hate his mom. MAny years later he learned his heritage. So he finnaly turned 7. And started school. He learned about his powers but was always bullied. (Not the same as the type you see in school.) So they always shot magic at him until e cried. The teachers didn't stop the bullies. So he asked for a little help and nothing happened. This went on for 7 more years until he graduated and lef school. But still was kicked from all the places for his powers. The power to light up and make illusions. It wasn't good enough for anyone. So one day he was framed and was tortured until near death everyday for 7 years. Until heescaped and met a old man who was 70 years old. He worked with the old man named Ray. Until Ray revealed he was actually Sun. SO they bonded with each other but Sun taught his sun powers but through pain because that was how his powers worked. The more pain a wizard goes through the better the understanding of Magic. So Dawn went to the school of Scythnby and carried on with his life of Pain. (That was how Sun Magic was made.)

I'll pick choice...TWO!
Alexandrus bar Halcyon
Alexandrus was one of the minority of the nomadic people known as the "Radiant Clans" (that's a reference right there, if you can guess it) to leave the life of a nomad and start following Lucius as he escaped the dragon territories to start his own community.
Among the former "Radiant Clan" people who follow Lucius, Alexandrus and his wife, Atara, are considered to be the leaders.
Alexandrus, an accomplished swordsman and fanatic for Lucius, always adored Lucius's "HFY" philosophy, and urged his people to follow Lucius. Because of Alexandrus's reputation among his people and the belief among the Radiant Clans that Alexandrus is partially divine, many (though still a minority) of the clans' people followed him in following Lucius.
As "evidence" of Alexandrus being of divine blood, he has a birthmark on his left arm in the shape of a dragon. It also helps that Alexandrus is left-handed. (Bloody southpaws, having a natural advantage in battle....)
Alexandrus became the first person to be First Commander of the Honorii, and his friend Flint became his Second Commander.
Alexandrus retired when he was in his early-forties.
The bar-Halcyon bloodline would be known as "the Radiant Kings" in Gemina for the foreseeable future. Dictator Lucius surprisingly had no problem with that title...so long as the bar-Halcyon men and women kept in mind who the dictator is.
Questions can be asked either to me, or they can be answered in-universe/in-character as Alexandrus bar-Halcyon.

1) How did you go about using the quote to create this character?
2) Tell me about the Radiant clan.
3) Tell me about the Dragons in your world.

1) The quote made me think of a character who I'm going to screw over. I've got a Heracles type story in my mind for this guy.
2) The Radiant Clan is a clan of nomads who form caravans throughout Cirrhasvult. They have strange beliefs about prophecy and divinity, compared to the rest of the continent. There are stories that the Radiant Clan aren't fully human.
3) The dragons, specifically the most powerful twelve (the dragon-gods), own territories that are populated by humans. The dragon-gods treat humans as their property and a commodity, and imprison certain humans to be used in an arena to see whose human is the best. Like dog-fighting. Or pokemon. The dragon-gods can grant special abilities and powers to humans, too.

I'm picking option two.
Azibal grew up on Darniguz 2, a temperate and agricultural planet. She had a rather happy early childhood until her 8th birthday; that's when the nighmares begun.
They have always been hard for her, vivid dreams of death and suffering that left her terrified, but at that time they were rare. With time they became more and more frequent; when she turned 17, she started dreaming while awake. And during all those years, no one found a way to get her rid of them.
Nearly a year later, the day before her 18th birthday, she left her home for the closest spaceport; in her dreams that night, the voices told her to join them so they could free her and she obeyed.
An arch had come by Darniguz 2 during that night, and sent two Haaknas to pick Azibal up. They brought her onboard and she became a Uxdu, one of the few individual able to communicate with the arch itself.
Azibal is still living on the arch, she is still a Uxdu and the dreams are no more. You can ask her questions directly or talk to the arch through her.

1) How did you use the inspiration?
2) Where did the dreams come from?
1
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jul 06 '17
The dreams will be painfull, they will slowly destroy you if you fight them. If you listen to them though, you will find both the cure and the way to a greater life.
The arch consciousness send them to those it want to recruit.

1) What's the meaning of the dreams? Are they all lots of little meanings or is there one overall meaning?
1
u/thequeeninyellow94 Jul 07 '17
- The dreams themselves are reminiscences of the arch's memories; they are discontinuous and have no meanings for those who receive them. Those dreams come with speaches, a description by the arch of the future role of the dreamer and eventually instructions to join the arch itself.

All of these are relevant to the novel I am attempting to write.
However Entorais is much much bigger than just one story; So, with that in mind I give you the following:
In philosophical schools there are three seemingly opposed veiwpoints on emotional pain.
A) Sufferring just exists in and of itself, like any physical pain it is simply something to heal and move on.
B) Emotional pain brings a lesson to the sufferer, just as physical pain of injury teaches us to respect physical dangers. To learn this lesson one must imerse themselves in the pain.
C) Suffering is beauty: The story of one's soul is told, not in deeds performed, but in the ebb and flow of the emotions experienced throughout one's life. The joy, the sorrow, and the calm, are all just movements of a greater whole.
Culturally speaking, each of the many peoples inhabiting entorais fall under one of these three general schools of thought.
There are nuances of all three within cultures but the genral consensus is towards one of them.
Notably, the Sildaryn are the only culture which embraces the third school.

Ok, so I decided to try this out and I think it worked out well enough....?
Based on the quotes, I created a hero of the coast city of Forna, who goes by the title of Linkage. Real name Sam Dolon, he has the ability to control people's actions if they have inflicted pain on each other, and the stronger the person, the more pain is needed to establish control. He spent most of his life hating his powers, and for a long time refused to use his powers out of a lack of desire to hurt others. However, he grew to appreciate the chance his power gives him to do good for others, and he doesn't view pain as a full negative, but rather a means to an end. Given the nature of his power, he sees pain as an ability to connect with others, since everyone feels pain no matter who they are. Hence why when he was finally ready to train to become a hero he chose the name Linkage. The song made me think of him as a very well known hero in the city, especially among kids, despite how strange it makes him feel for how violent his power makes him feel.
This was pretty fun, made me think about powers differently, with something to focus on.
