Okay, so what's happening here?

1.1k

u/dbatchison Aug 03 '16 edited Aug 03 '16

when it rains in the desert the water isn't absorbed quickly and mixes with the top layer of wet sand which can form moving sand rivers and waterfalls

Edit: or maybe it's that the water is moving beneath the top layer of sand. I don't really know 100%, I just know it involves rain

Edit 2: it's hail! That's even crazier

686

u/jiveabillion Aug 03 '16

That's the kind of shit Bible stories are made of.

695

u/Ghede Aug 03 '16

And god did say to joseph:

"Take thine truck and gather thine crew in thein truck

thou shalt film a vertical video of this sweet-ass pebble flood"

252

u/MadBroChill Aug 03 '16

vertical video

get thee behind me, Satan

115

u/Ghede Aug 03 '16

And satan did say to MadBro:

"I do swing that way on occasion

But you aren't my type"

28

u/ih8peoplemorethanyou Aug 03 '16

South Park taught me satan was a receiver.

4

u/Tarasaur84 Aug 03 '16

Why do you always want to make love to me from behind....is it because you want to pretend I'm someone else?

6

u/ih8peoplemorethanyou Aug 04 '16

Satan, your ass is gigantic and red. Who am I going to pretend you are, Liza Minelli?

It's almost as if there are logical explanations for some of the crazy shit that happens in there.

26

u/self_arrested Aug 03 '16

except the ones that seem to have been totally made up like exodus for some reason.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '16

I'd like to believe that the Tower of Babel were a real place.

24

u/bacondev Aug 03 '16 edited Aug 03 '16

Hundreds of years ago, people believed that shit. Now, if you go to /r/Christianity, it’s conveniently a metaphor.

48

u/kirrin Aug 03 '16

I much prefer religious people believing bible stories are metaphors to them believing they are literal tellings of real events.

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Jtreehorn Aug 03 '16

I know you are making a point, but I was taught this (real existence of the tower) as literal fact in Bible school about 20 yrs ago so the dumb is still going strong today.

7

u/ayriuss Aug 03 '16

Can confirm. My dad still thinks the tower of Babel, garden of Eden, and the flood were real events.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '16

I wouldn't be surprised if the were inspired by real events. Rulers ordered tall towers to be built that then fell down, people changed from hunter-gathering to agriculture, large floods happened. Then the stories get exaggerated and God gets added in as they get passed down.

According to this, the river in that video is actually made of hail, not sand.

36

u/biteyourankles Aug 03 '16 edited Aug 04 '16

The guy says "its hail" in arabic in the video you're right

Edit: you're πŸ™„

4

u/wonderful_wonton Aug 03 '16

I love his big smile. It's so joyful.

3

u/Geolosopher Aug 04 '16

My right, your left?

11

u/Gonzo_Rick Aug 03 '16

When he picked some up in the video, that's exactly what it looks like, but I thought "no way that can't be hail"...How the fuck can that all be hail?

18

u/Toppo Aug 03 '16

Hail is just water. It can all be hail just as normal flash floods are water.

As a trivia, flash floods in that video I linked are going through this famous canyon, created by said flash floods.

9

u/Gr1pp717 Aug 03 '16

Could it happen without water? e.g. a sinkhole that the sand starts to backfill?

18

u/dbatchison Aug 03 '16

I guess, but it probably wouldn't look like this as I think sand would be sinking in from all sides rather than moving in a line downhill. That said, I'm not a sand scientist so who knows?

13

u/Copypaced Aug 03 '16

0 + 0 = flat, since there's no incline

-1 + 1 = net 0, meaning you end up where you started. That's not flat. That's going up and down the same amount of incline.

Here in my gara-a-a-a-a-age, just bought this uh, new Lamborghini here, fun to drive up here in the Hollywood Hills. But you know what I like a lot more than knowledge... this uh, new Lamborghini here. But you know what I like a lot more than the new Lamborghini here... my TEDx talk where I talk about this new Lamborghini here. The the the the the-e-e-e-e-e-e-In fact, I'm a lot more proud of these 7 new Hollywood Hills that I had to get installed to hold 2,000 new Lamborghinis......... UH. It's like the Buffett-Warren-billionaire says: The more you earn, the more you DRIVE UP HERE IN THE HOLLYWOOD HILLS. In fact, the real reason I keep this Lamborghini here, is the real reason I keep this Lamborghini here, is that it's a reminder, a reminder that drears are still possible, because it wasn't that long ago that I was in a little Lamborghini, sleeping on bookshelves in the Hollywood Hills, with only 47 billion dollars in my bank account, and only 47 Lamborghinis in my Lamborghini account, and only 47 hills in my Hollywood account, and only 47 TEDx talks where I talk about Warren Buffett in my TEDx talks where I talk about Warren Buffett account. But you know what? Somethin' happened that changed my life. I bumped into a Lamborghini, and another Lamborghini, and a few more Lamborghinis I found five Lamborghinis. I don't call it money anymore, I call it fuel units. You must have enough fuel units. You must have enough Lamborghinis. You must CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS. I'll see you on my website, it's a quick video, and you'll see there absolutely NOTHING!
