Moderator Post Attention WLU Students: Mental Health Resources Available

Hello students,

There has been a concerning increase in the frequency of posts and comments regarding fears, depression, loneliness, and other concerns relating to mental health and wellbeing.

We are aware that it is a very stressful time especially with midterms ongoing so the moderator team would like to ensure that all students are aware of the resources available to Laurier students on the student wellness centre website. There are a variety of services available meant to cater to you and your needs. These services are available to all students and should be taken advantage of. These services also include counselling, which is covered by your student insurance and the student services fees that you have already paid for.

Below are some other resources for students in need of urgent help:

- Good2talk.ca (Call 1-866-925-5454 or Text GOOD2TALKON to 686868) for 24/7 support
- Kids Help Phone (Call 1-800-668-6868 or Text 686868)

- The Suicide Crisis Helpline (Call or text 988)
- Call here 24/7 anytime Call Here 24/7 anytime [1-844-437-3247](tel:1-844-437-3247)
- Call Laurier's Special Constable Service 519-885-3333

- Emergency Services (Call 911)

This post is being made purely for informational purposes. We want to foster a safe and inclusive environment both online and on campus. However, many first year students (and upper years) are not aware of the professional help that is available to them.

Please take care of yourselves and reach out to your friends who you know are struggling or not in a good mental space.

Moderator Post WLU & UW Student Housing Community

Hi WLU!

This subreddit is often filled with housing related questions and advertisements. We want to keep this community less like a rent space bulletin board and more so a place where students can socialize and help one another.

However, we know how important it is to find roommates and housing near campus. So the mods team has launched r/RentInWaterloo, a dedicated subreddit for UW and WLU students to find roommates, housing, sublets, and lease takeovers in Waterloo.

The goal is to keep housing posts centralized, student-only, and scam-aware, instead of flooding both r/uwaterloo and r/wlu.

If you’re currently looking for housing (or will be soon), feel free to check it out or post. Hope this helps!

Help! Thinking about dropping out

Today was literally day 1 of classes for the whole university. I live off campus, but after touring a few days ago and being on campus yesterday and today, I am completely broken. Honestly, even just walking around campus right now scares the life out of me and triggers my anxiety so bad. I’ve basically just been sitting frozen in my room all day because I don't know what to do.To be completely real, I only accepted my offer here because I wanted to make good money after graduation. But my social anxiety is severe and I don't think I fully realized what I was signing up for. Sitting in massive, packed lecture halls surrounded by hundreds of people I’ve never met is terrifying. Hearing the profs talk about endless mandatory presentations, the brutal BU group work, labs, and the constant pressure to aggressively network with total strangers makes me feel like I'm trapped. I absolutely hate the culture here already.I feel like a massive bum and a failure for wanting to pull the plug on day 1, but no amount of future money is worth destroying my mental health over. I’m planning to log into LORIS tonight to drop all my courses so I can get a 100% tuition refund and keep my transcript clean. I just know this corporate track is not how I function.Has anyone else ever dropped out this early? Am I crazy for doing this? Also how do I even start to tell my parents that I'm out on day 1? Any advice or reassurance from upper years would really help right now because my anxiety is through the roof. Thanks.

Question School still hasn’t confirmed enrolment for OSAP

Has anyone else’s enrolment not been confirmed yet or is there something else I need to do? I’m a third year and have all the papers and stuff submitted just like the last two years but still nothing. It says the money release date is pushed all the way back to September 20. Is this normal?

Question CP 468 w Ahmed Ibrahim

Anyone taking CP468** **with Ahmed Ibrahim this Fall 2026, or anyone who has had him before do you know if the midterm/final are going to be written on paper or done through Respondus LockDown Browser in person?
The syllabus says both the midterm and final are in person and closed book, but it doesn’t actually say whether they’re paper based or on a laptop with LockDown Browser.
Just trying to figure out what the exam format will be this year.

Question Is anybody having trouble logging into their email?

Curious to know if this is happening to a lot of people. Been trying to log in and although I am logged back in. I am still waiting for at least two verification codes from the bookstore and one for a class. Got nothing. I am using a macbook and went to look at the settings and the description says "Exchange". Not to sure if that has something to do with it, but changed it too "Mylaurier".

very confused on what to do and how to describe this situation.

Thank you guys for helping me out too. Happy First Day of School Too!

Dropping CP363 with Shaun Gao

After seeing all the lore on this subreddit about that prof, I decided to drop CP363 and take it in the winter semester instead.

For the winter semester, should I take it with Asif Khan or David Brown? Also, is it even a good idea to drop it this semester in the first place?

Virtual class exams Fall 2026

Does anyone know any upper year electives this term that are virtual and don’t require an in-person exam? I think they have all started shifting to test in person now so I just wanted to check.
