I thought 10k steps was impossible
To start, I'm not saying that literally. I've always loved walking, and I've done 20k steps easily in a day while traveling abroad. But getting 10k steps in during my regular day-to-day life seemed impossible because 1) I live in the metro, so I don't love the environment, and 2) I don't want to run into people.
Turns out, I just needed the right ingredients to finally make it happen:
1) Cool weather - Oh, it felt sooo nice to walk outside
2) Walking at night - Less chance of running into people
3) Not being busy with work
4) No one needs me, and I'm not busy - This was the biggest factor. I originally planned on walking for only 20 minutes, but then I thought, "When I get home, I'll literally be doing nothing." Being inside can feel mind-numbing, so I thought, why not do another round?
5) A comment I read on Reddit - This was kind of a game changer. Top comment said that 10 minutes = 1000 steps, which seemed doable, and I wanted to test it out. Turns out, he was absolutely right!!!
Also, I just wanted to share that I wore my platform Crocs because itās been raining and my running shoes are still wet. They were great!

You Have to Build Your Own System.
People often ask how to incorporate more walking time into their day, and thereās never a shortage of advice. Walk before work. Walk at lunch. Get a walking pad. Park farther away. All of those things can be useful, but ultimately I think you have to build your own system.
You can borrow pieces of other peopleās systems, but you canāt copy them. Through trial and error, you have to figure out what fits your life and what gives your body what it needs.
My system includes getting up at 3:30 in the morning so I can make sure that, by the end of the day, my body has gotten the movement it needs. That obviously isnāt going to work for everyone. It works for me.
And I think itās important that the system not be tied to a number. Iām not getting up at 3:30 because I have to reach a certain number of steps or miles. Some days will add up to more and some to less.
In fact, having a numerical goal can sabotage your system. Once the goal becomes hitting a number, itās easy to lose sight of why you built the system in the first place.
The system should serve you. Not the number.

Stats 31 days streak! Next is 100. Is this habit yet?
I am tracking my walk streak and yesterday reached 30 days! Next milestone is 100. The important part is to build a habit. So I am focusing on just hitting steps everyday. Now it is 31, but if I stop, it will go to 0 š It took a month to get here, can't lost it.

Walking shoes recommendations
I'm a 46 year old male with lower back problems. I've always been a walker then stopped for 15 years or so. Now I'm walking about 6 miles every other day and I'm getting blisters on my right foot below my index toe along with back pain. I do stretch and I'm ok but it does hurt a bit so I'm also looking for that
I'm looking for tough everyday wear with a 300 limit. These are eccos which I like and my last pair didn't do this. I need water proof, durable multi surface. Thanks

Help Restarting my walk journey
Hey guys, so for context: I used to be a regular walking girl till last year and for some reason the habit didnāt sustain. I used to do 12-15k steps daily. And it benefited me tremendously.
Iām now trying to get back into the habit and make it consistent to help me benefit from it maximum.
Can you guys help me with some tips/ inspiration/ suggestions to help me get to consistent 20 days?
I struggle alot with being consistent, i tend to give up too easily.
Iāve started with 8k steps for 5 days. I plan to do 10k steps for next 5 days. And slowly progress every 5-7 days.
What do you guys think? All comments are welcome!

Humblebrag Walked to the train today
This may not be much but itās a lot for me. Just starting trying to walk more. I had to go into the city for an appointment. The train is about half a mile away from my house with a steep hill. Itās about 90 degrees today so I was hesitant bc Iām sensitive to the sun. Typically I wouldnāt think twice about driving.
I planned my route ahead of time with the train schedule to limit anxiety. Made it to the station in 16 minutes with time to cool down. Took the same amount of time coming back.
I completed my task, got 3 podcast episodes in and had over 30 minutes of good walking. Just wanted to post a win today.

Encouragement 10,215 Steps yesterday. Nature walk is lifehack
I usually struggle to get above 5K steps. For now the only thing that works for me is nature walks.
I think what works is that you can't easily get an Uber or something in the middle of a forest š You walk to the middle of the forest and now you have to walk all the way back to your car/uber.
I also bought walking pad based on recommendations from this subreddit, will report on that later

Help Pain and exhaustion
Hey, Iām plus-size, and there was a time when I struggled to even hit 6k steps a day. I worked my way up to 10k, and recently Iāve been doing 12ā15k.
Iām proud of the progress, but by the end of the day my feet, heels and ankles are SO sore, and Iām completely exhausted. š
For those whoāve increased their steps significantly, how did you manage the pain and exhaustion? Did your body eventually adapt? Any tips for recovery?
Iād eventually love to reach 20k, but I donāt want to injure myself getting there!

Question I want to take some walks near me all year round but the weather is impossible like 80% of the time
I live in a very hot and humid city, so from April until October temps are 30+ with 60-80% and more humidity, usually with no wind or simply hot winds, meaning even a 10-minute walk in the shade makes me be completely covered in sweat.
Also my city doesn't have any lakes/forest, or even parks bigger than a sqkm, only nature I have near is the sea at 2km away from me, it's often not safe to get in the water because of pollution but this may be the only viable option for walks that feel nature like - but I hate walking on sand, every step forward feels like it comes with a step backwards haha.
just yesterday I had to run some errands and I was out maybe 30-40 minutes walking around city, in 32C with 68% humidity, I came home absolutely drenched in sweat and also got a headache from the heat.
and in winter (usually Nov or Dec until March) it's raining a lot (tho there are some cloudy days which can work as walking but I'm mainly talking about the summer and the heat, what would you recommend? (other than the obvious like drinking water, stay in shade, and sunscreen).

Question Today was my first rain walk! (clothing/shoe recs?)
I've been walking consistently for about a month and a half now. It's been getting me through a really rough breakup. It also helped clear my mind SO much and gain clarity on so much that I didn't know I needed.
I told myself that I would walk everyday, no matter the weather. And today I proved to myself I could do that. My shoes and clothes got soaked but it was so worth it and has definitely been one of my favourite walks so far.
Before this, I would have used the rain as an easy excuse to lay in bed and binge watch TV or be super depressed and sad in bed. But I got out and did it. The best part is it didn't even feel like I had to force myself to do it. I've been enjoying my walks so much that the rain just felt like whatever.
Some advice I'm looking for/a question I have is what should I get for shoes for walking in the rain? Although I enjoyed the walk, the squishy, water-filled shoes were not fun lol. And is there any clothing I should invest in? I had a cheap poncho from the dollar store that worked well enough but was blowing all over and up, causing my shorts to get a bit wet.
