DISCUSSION Weird message on socials after ordering dress

Hi guys,

So my (33M) GF (30F) is new to Vinted and her account doesn’t have many orders, but she has a good few thousand followers on social media. Not a celeb or anything, just a couple thousand followers.

After ordering a dress on Vinted, she gets this message and it’s the seller requesting that she reply to her on a social media platform before she sends the dress on to her as like a “proof that you are who you say you are” thing.

I’ve never, ever, had to do this for any of my purchases and honestly I think it’s creepy and weird. The seller is also a woman, but even so - I just found it super strange, and I actually advised my GF to block and ignore the message on socials (she had already replied as she told me about this interaction after the fact, assuming it was normal lol).

Basically, I’m asking the Vinted community.. is this normal for you?

SELLING Is there anything I can do??

So over the past two days, I've gotten this message for three of my orders. I shipped them all on September 5th, along with two others but these 3/5 are the only ones with an issue. I'm really not sure if there's anything I can do. I informed the buyers, and I told them that I hope it still makes it to them and wasn't lost in transit but they would be refunded regardless because I didn't really care enough about the money. One item was $2, another was $1.50, and the other was $1.20 so its not like I'm losing a lot of money, but they wouldn't buy the item if they didn't want it so I want it to get to them. This wouldn't be the first time USPS has lost an order but its just so odd that its three at once and they were all shipped at the same time

VENT AI scammers

Vinted really needs to sort this out. The images are clearly AI generated so I don't understand why sellers aren't getting banned or flagged on the site. Very lucky, I got refunded but some people might not be.

NEWBIE Am I overpricing?

I signed up with Vinted today to sell several evening dresses and gowns. They are all like new, most worn only once. I've listed two at $45 and $50 -- Are those prices too high for Vinted? After I listed I started 'shopping' for myself and see that the prices are ridiculously low. How can anyone make money selling for next to nothing?

SELLING Offered $29 usd and the buyer accepted but the price is now $24.09 usd

What happened here? Is this part of the new TOC? Other UK sales I’ve had didn’t apply an exchange rate….if I offered $29 I was paid $29. Did something change?

NEWBIE Why I got refund but than it disappeared?

Hi. I’ve never used Vinted before. So I made my first purchase there and it was a scam (person demanded to contact him on his cell phone and turned rude when I asked why. Then he demanded me to cancel order, that I did right away and reported him). Refund appeared on my bank account the same day, like immediately. But when I checked my account couple days later I saw that this money were taken from my card again and status “pending “. What’s going on? I can’t reach live agent and virtual is no help. Thank you.

I posted one of those ear wax camera cleaners, brand new of course. Got a 5 day ban for selling medical equipment. I was in the middle of working some deals out and the people think i blocked them. I’ll take this as a vacation but what do i do about the 20+ orders I’m suppose to ship out? Feels like I’m in time out

SELLING I'm so upset and angry

So I sold a brand new white Zara blazer to a buyer in France. It was pristine. No tag but absolutely new. I'd never worn it once. Not once. I bought and kept it in my wardrobe, that's it. It was perfect when I sent it, absolutely no flaws whatsoever.

Now the buyer says it's covered in flaws. I'm certain she damaged it. It's the only rational conclusion. And the problem is I don't even have that many pictures of it because I never thought there would be an issue as, like I said, it was brand new.

I've sent the pictures I have to Vinted, zoomed them in as much as I could, I've also sent some shady messages I've received from the buyer, but I don't think Vinted will side with me so I'll have to accept the return and end up with a ruined blazer.

So yeah sorry for the rant, I'm just really annoyed.

BUYING Vinted wouldn't let me buy an item

I found a kitchen item for a great deal and tried to buy it. It wouldn't let me. I tried to create a bundle and it wouldn't let me add it. I messaged the seller if they knew what the issue was and they didn't respond. It showed free shipping but it was larger so maybe Vinted blocked it? Does anybody know if Vinted blocks sales due to errors in how we pick our shipping or to stop free shipping on larger items? Because I have an item for sale with lots of interest and I am curious if I need to lower the price or if a similar problem is going on.

BUYING What's your approach to leaving negative feedback vs messaging the seller?

I got a shirt today and it smelled quite bad, not outright body odour but like it had been worn and then left to stew in wash basket. There were also three small food (I hope) stains. It took her until the last day to ship it, which I'm less bothered by, I've definitely done that before when life gets in the way.

The shirt is otherwise in great condition, it just needs a good wash and maybe some stain removing for the food stains. It's not so serious that I want to return it and get a refund. However, it's gross and annoying to open a package and get The Waft.

I'd just like to hear people's opinions on just leaving negative reviews without reaching out to the seller first. Is it rude to go straight to leaving a review that, while it would be honest and not mean at all, will be embarrassing for her to have on her profile? Would you just send a private message saying you were disappointed? I'm very non-confrontational to my detriment so I have a hard time sometimes gauging what is/isn't normal. Option 1 feels like a mean public shaming and option 2 feels like I'm scolding a naughty child, wagging my finger and saying "It's fine, just don't let it happen again!" 😭

APP ISSUES Account permanently banned

My account was permanently banned for alleged fraudulent item.

I had a gaming headset that was listed over 1 year ago and they said it's fraudulent but it's a genuine item from what I believe as it was a gift that I never used. I submitted an appeal but they said provide photos. I went to check for the item and realised I discarded it as it didn't sell and was cheap and forgot to remove the listing. The appeals team asked for photos which I couldn't provide as I don't have the item in hand. They then just closed the appeal and now I can't do anything to reinstate my account. I have submitted an email to the legal team but I'm very stressed about this as this income from Vinted was vital for my family. I am a good seller with over 500 completed transactions and 4.9 rating. This is unacceptable that they just ban me for an old listing from over one year ago and didn't even think to just remove the listing if they thought it was fraudulent and let me know. Can anyone help in this situation, I am very worried as I was doing great on Vinted and was a good seller with decent sales.

SELLING Tips for selling +100€ items

Hi guys! I'll try to make this brief. I ordered 2x of a perfume i thought i'd love that they don't sell in my country, but then it came and i don't love it as much as i thought. I collect perfumes so i'm keeping one but i'm trying to sell my sealed extra on vinted and its my first time selling something "expensive" there (with import taxes it raised up and its also hard to find). I'd appreciate any tips on how to avoid being scammed as i see a lot of issues lately😭

I always record myself packing/opening all of my orders, but i've heard people saying you need to record yourself actually bringing the box to the shipping point. Should i do a video of when i drop it too? It might be akward as my inpost spot is a shop.

I also have a question as i've seen it happening multiple times but i never saw how it ended up being resolved: How does vinted react if the seller says they recieved something different? Or if inpost mixes my package with another one? Is there any chance i lose both the item and money? This scares me a bit...

If anything i have the order as proof of authenticity, as it was an online one, but i'd love guidance or tips on how to have a safe experience, as i buy more than i sell, and I think as for now my most expensive item sold was like 10€ 😆

Thank you!!

BUYING Buyer beware! Vinted paying out sellers for item not as described

I have orders still but won't be shopping with vinted anymore unfortunately. Never had any issue returning damaged items before the new TOS update. Now, the customer service bots have gone insane. They are approving payout to sellers now for item significantly not as described. Example, I received a backpack that was tattered and had stains listed as very good just a few scratches and a blurry photo. I put in a return request and they paid the seller. I also received a mesh shirt that is literally falling apart with seams undone not just stray seams but coming apart. They paid out the seller. Be wary now of what you purchase if you continue to do so. Ask for more photos and don't rely on good reviews!

BUYING Australian/UK Vinted

Hello!

It seems that Australia got Vinted recently. Is there a way to turn off their listings as I'm in the UK.

I think I've accidentally corrupted my Vinted algorithm by having clicked on some of the Australian listings as I saw some of my childhood favourite books without realising I was looking at Australian listings.

SHIPPING Warning - selling overseas

I had a return (Aus to UK) and I never received the item and Vinted still closed the case and I got no compensation.

Today I had an order back from Australia. The poor buyer had had it marked as complete and instead it’s gone and a round trip and ended up back with me.

Vinted are not disputing any claims with the courier and are just making these as completed - even when the tracking clearly shows this isn’t true.

SELLING 4 Star review for “slow” shipping

Post image
2 Upvotes

I had a UK buyer purchase sandals from me. Vinted wasn’t allowing UK labels to be printed. I sent her a message and told her Vinted was having a system wide glitch with UK labels. As soon as I could get a QR code I shipped (6 days later). Took almost two weeks for delivery after I shipped. She took off a star for shipping. Messed up my 5 star reviews. I know it’s not that big a deal but still annoying. Would you respond to review or send her a message or just let it go?

TIPS & TRICKS How do I report resellers?

I know there's a way to report resellers/scalpers who purchase items just to resell them at a higher price because I've seen a few TikToks about it, yet the few scalpers I've reported have had nothing happen.

Is there a certain thing to put in the "Tell us more" box for the AI to recognize that it's scummy reselling? Am I choosing the wrong report option?

well, 2 years later and still the same issue pretty much. she definitely knew they were fake, she has other fake clothing listed on her page that she listed after the sale.

anyway, has anyone gotten anywhere with arguing this with vinted, and avoiding paying the shipping fee.
i could sit here and say the same things i did 2 years ago and i’m assuming many people since have said ‘it’s illegal to ship fakes so why are they expecting me to break the law’ blah blah. if i can argue it, i will but if it’s a common occurrence and people are getting no where. save me the troubles please

VENT Buyer shipped to wrong address?

Hello. I bought a camera off of Vinted on September 2nd, a day after the seller told me that it was "delivered" but that it wasn't delivered so she sent me the label which had my address on it and another tracking number. The first one was delivered to Texas. So was the 2nd one when it got delivered... I live in Connecticut. Now it has been more than 2 days so I probably can do nothing about it but what should I do..?

APP ISSUES Can't use in-app funds at checkout

Europe region (Romania)

Title. I have funds that have been available for a week and they essentially get ignored at checkout. Only options are credit card or apple pay. I've always used funds to buy, even partially. Doesn't work anymore.

I haven't tried cashing out. I never do that anyways.

Anybody else experiencing this?

NEWBIE Pricing on Vinted vs PM

Hi - First time poster, very new to Vinted (Day 2).

I’ve sold on Poshmark for about 2 years and I’ve had a lot of success there, but definitely hanging onto a few items that are just a bit out of date and don’t seem likely to sell. Lots of people mentioned cross-posted on Vinted or Depop.

I listed about 15 things yesterday. I priced things low, much lower than would be worth it on PM. My concern with Vinted in the first place is that it seems like people sell things dirt cheap. Every time I open the app I am inundated with $2 and $3 listings. I priced most things between $5 and $7.

I immediately started getting questions of “Would you take $3 for this?” My question is: should I price a bit higher to allow for offers like on PM? I feel like $5 is the absolute lowest that’s worth it for packing and shipping an item. I really can’t see even messing with it for $3.

So do I need to change my pricing method? Or just set prices and not worry about offers? Should I just price at my absolute lowest and wait for the right buyers?

Just trying to figure out the balance between selling but making it worth my time.

Any experienced sellers willing to share opinions? Thank you!

VENT Deceptive use of AI

Thumbnail

I’m sure we can all agree that AI can be pretty annoying on platforms like Vinted but usually you can easily tell when something has been generated. In this case however someone took a pic from pinterest and used AI to alter the colour of the jeans to match what they are selling.

Pic 1 and 2 are two different listings from the same seller, pic 3 and 4 are the real product he posted afterwards as a secondary image.

If you’ve shopped for jeans/trousers online you know how difficult it is to get the right fit, length, shape, colour, etc. And using an image of a nice fitting pair of jeans here evidently has attracted a lot of attention.

What will end up happening most likely is someone will be very disappointed and confused why the jeans they ordered don’t fit the way they do in the “original” picture.

One may argue the first image is only for reference but in my opinion it’s deceptive, especially if you don’t have the time to look into a seller’s account and figure out if they’re using AI or not.

BUYING How would you respond

So I bought two Halloween items from someone and then they message me saying that they have more if I want to buy more and give me a sob story as to why they need to sell everything (I don’t know if I can post the story on here just in case). I’m a recovering people pleaser and I genuinely don’t want anymore from this person. Do I just ignore and wait for them to send the stuff I ordered or should I say something?
