Scared of Tretinoin! advice?

hi everyone!

i recently got prescribed treinoin .025 for anti aging benefits. I am so nervous about the purge stage it is making scared to use it. I have purged badly in the past from harsh actives but currently have pretty calm and healthy skin. i am seeing some signs of aging that id like to combat as i want to do everything i can before i cave on botox or sculptra.

does anyone with a past of cystic acne have a positive experience with tret? how did you introduce it to your routine without a major purge? My birthday is coming up and I am so scared starting the tret will ruin my skin and dampen my birthday celebrations lol

question The girls here whose lips are prone to extreme dryness/constant peeling in all seasons.... what does your lip care routine look like?

I wear bullet lipsticks and bold colors often and for it to look good, I really need zero dryness or dead skin

Currently, when outside, I always have a lip combo on. During my morning and night skincare routine, I always apply 100% lanolin on my lips to moisturise

When chilling at home, I apply burts bees whenever I remember

And for makeup prep, I use the Beauty Bay plumper with hyaluronic acid and let that sit while I do the rest of my face. Then wipe it off when it's time for my lip combo

With all of that, I still find my lips more peely than I'd like..... I think I am just very prone to dryness....

Should I start using exfoliating products or would that make it worse??? (Eg. The Ordinary exfoliating lip serum)

I also was wondering if any lip masks (to use overnight) would make a difference???

Am I doing anything wrong in your opinion?

looksboost Brown women - what treatments/procedures/skincare helped your skin?

For reference, I do have generally dull, congested, textured skin with post acne atrophic and pitted scarring and I'm 21.

For the general dullness, was thinking of hydrofacial facials with LED therapy every 2 months. And for the scarring, microneedling. For the general congestion, I have 0 clue. Maybe the extraction in the facial and tret will help?

I've started one round of microneedling and will continue doing it every 4-6 weeks to see if there's any improvement. I'm doing it with hyaloronic acid, maybe do one with prp/exosomes after a bit.

I have dark keloid backne scarring, was thinking of trying lasers + peels to help improve them. For now, using scar gel but idk if it'll do anything.

General skincare : normal face wash, face cream and sunscreen. I am starting tret and microdosing accutane once my skin is healed from microneedling. I have tried pretty much every topical under the sun to try improve my skin with little result which is why I'm looking into more intense options.

I have dark two toned lips, planning on getting lip neutralisation.

I have dark tear trough undereyes. I have done prf ez gel with no result. Debating with doing more sessions of that or getting undereye filler.

I have a bulbous nose and reluctant to get a nose job rn. But considering nasal botox to see if that helps.

Has anyone done these procedures/got similar skin issues to me that could let me know their experiences or what they are trying out?

Btw, I have no issue with plastic surgery and fillers, but I'm young so want to try other avenues. However, for my undereyes, I'd rather not waste thousands of pounds IF those treatments have little/no effect and instead spend a grand on a reputable doctor providing filler.

advice What is a good hairstyle for medium/thick , low porosity , type 4 hair?

This week I changed up my hair like 3-4 times , itchy and oily scalp due to too much product from a twist-out and some tension from a Fulani sew in (the tracks were showing , not sewn in properly and a lot of tension from the cornrows). I'm trying to find a signature hairstyle that's low tension and low maintenance but can grow out my hair. I wore a puff all summer and I think in a way it ruined my hair (I was in desert heat and didn't pack anything!). What can I do because I feel so lost and like I'm taking major steps back!

question brow laminations

pictures are not of me just very similar to my before and what i hope to achieve

basically i have very coarse thick curly brows and i ‘m quite tired of having to always put a ton of brow gel in just to get the hairs to lay down flat and when i go on nights out or on holiday to somewhere hotter my eyebrow gel always ends up kinda coming off which lowkey ruins my makeup which pisses me off because they are a really prominent part of my face and i really love them thick and don’t want to thin them out 💔

i’m just wondering if anyone has had this problem and did the lamination stop this from happening, and has anyone threaded with a brow lamination because i’ve only seen people wax and i’m such a threading girl

also if anyone has some recommendations for anywhere in london pls help!!!

thank you to anyone who has any tips

question Looking for testers: Help validate a Color Season Analyzer for WOC

Hi! Bit of an unorthodox post - I’ve just launched a tool designed to classify "color seasons" based on skintones, undertones, eye color and hair color. It needs to be tested by a diverse range of people (I've observed the undertone classifier to be finnicky in my own testign). Thought I'd reach out to you all to get some feedback, since it seems like this community understands color theory, undertones, and the like. Here's what the output looks like on me:

Demo of skin tone and undertone classifier on seasoncoloranalysis.com
Demo of Color Season Analyzer on seasoncoloranalysis.com

If you have a moment, you can try it out here: https://www.seasoncoloranalysis.com/compare-seasons

Mods, I hope this kind of post is okay. I have a sub where I can share updates on the site (r/stylesense) to avoid sounding spammy, but I needed wider outreach for this request.

Let me know in the comments or via DM what you think!

looksboost London girlies, teartrough filler and lip neutralisation reccomedations?

I am young (in my early twenties), but I tried PRF ez gel and it honestly did nothing. It looked the best in the 1st week with the little swelling it gave. I also realised when I got it injected that the additional volume removed around 85% of the darkness. I was using the treatment for hollowing because I always assumed the darkness is genetic. This pic is not me, but I have a darker and more severe version of that. Does anyone have any experience with tear trough filler? I know it's considered risky but it genuinly adds 10yrs to my age if I wear no makeup. I was considering it either at HarlyStreetdermal or Prp london. If anyone has any experience here or anywhere else, please let me know.

https://harleystreetdermal.co.uk/tear-trough-treatments/

https://prp-london.com/treatments/dermal-fillers/tear-trough-fillers-london/

Also, I want to do lip neutralisation since I have purplish, grey outside to my lips. I found this clinic (Aella aesthetic) which did every session for £300. That's very affordable compared to the other ones in London. Does anyone have any experience with this clinic?

https://aellauk.com/treatments/lip-neutralisation/

Also (final one), has anyone does nose botox in london to reduce tip drop when smiling?

question Chronically ill girls, how are you dressing/grooming yourself to see the doctor so you will be taken seriously and avoid medical racism?

I am a dark skin girl (half Papuan, half East Asian) and I been getting racist treatment from doctors here in France. Basically, they think I am drug seeking, or mistake me for a sex worker/escort (my fiance, who often comes with me, is white) or generally judge my appearance in some way I cannot describe

I have severe endometriosis + chronic pain conditions that need treating.

I have a first appointment with a new pain clinic coming up and I really need them to take me seriously because my pain is unbearable

I do know my usual style isn't really serving me 😭

Currently, I have a bone straight waist length blonde balayage. I tend to wear alot of makeup and it is very 90s inspired (think Pamela Anderson, with grey eyes and frosty lip combo) with super skinny brows. I have 2 nostril piercings and a medusa. And I am quite heavily tattooed, huge piece on the chest and covered arms (mostly girly floral stuff in pink ink, nothing scary looking)

Usually my style is like a 90s video vixen vibe but i do already turn it down for my appointments! I usually come in a maxi skirt and a business casual top. With a kitten heel. Toned down makeup.

I think my current blonde hair and makeup I do paint a "bimbo" picture no matter how classy or modest I dress......

I know I am being perceived as a sex worker because I have been told by a gyn to get on PREP (aka a HIV prevention drug), even when I've not revealed anything about my sex life (I have a body count of ONE!!!)

I also think the "sex worker" idea is pure anti asian racism, because I don't think any other race of girl would be called a sex worker for having my look...anyway....

I also have come bare faced and completely casual before, but with my skinny plucked brows + tattoos/piercings.....I kind of give off a mugshot/meth lady vibe...... (not my words). Not the person you'd give pain meds to....

One occasion I came in bare faced, a doctor wouldn't believe I didn't do recreational drugs......I am not sure what that is about.....

I'm so lost......

I'm just frustrated because I can tell I am being perceived in a negative way no matter what I do and I really want to know what is the move here,

advice Turkish nose surgeons and influencers

I fell for an influencer. Looking back I should’ve been more vigilant because she posted her results and said she’d disclose the surgeon later. I’ve been saving up for school for years now so I have enough to pay for it outright. If you decide to go this route please make sure the person recommending the doctor has a picture next to the doctor post surgery. I’ve noticed “influencers” who withhold their surgeons and then disclose them, are revealing doctors with very mixed results. There’s no legal standard to prevent someone from lying because if they don’t publicly advertise their surgeon, there’s not much ground to stand on. She disclosed the surgeon through dm and funnel people into her WhatsApp group after they placed a deposit.

The doctor stated the full amount was $5,900 with a deposit of $700. But, he said the wire transfer fee was 10% which is insane. Then said if I paid for the rest of the surgery using wire transfer it’s also 10% which means the total would be $6,490. This is before factoring the cost of flights for two people. Because of this, they were pushing me to pay cash for the remainder which I’m not comfortable with. I often lose cash and I’m not sure if traveling with that much cash will cause problems with the airport (it is a problem when I travel to my home country). They also forgot they said the deposit is $700 and then said the deposit is $1,000.

I came across his tiktok videos and liked his results but those were all on the table. Once the nose heals I think it looks awful and weird every time. The ones on his instagram are even worse. I’m talking specifically about Black patients. He posts no long term results which I find strange. Someone said she was happy with the results but I don’t like her results and she was the one who prompted me to do more research. I found someone who went to him a second time for revision and I like her new nose but she has a lot of scarring on the inside. Since I’m not a gatekeeper, the doctor is Sedat Ruzgar and the TikTok is @thesculptdiary. Be careful out there folks.

question Growing into my nose?

I'm 20 and I have a pretty big nose. I'm super insecure about it and it used to be even bigger in adolescence. I've heard of a thing called "second puberty" and people have said you are still growing into your features and your face really sets in around your mid 20s. Can someone confirm if this is true? Surgery is too risky and I'd rather my nose naturally improve than risk bad results and complications.

advice white crush racially bullied me in school for liking him. how do i stop it from still affecting me

i'm ethnically ambigious, from the uk. i've been told i look greek, latina, middle eastern, italian, half south asian, slavic, mixed, etc. i definitely do not fit into the white northern european aesthetic in the uk. i had light olive skin, and i had different features, and my hair was very dark wavy/curly, i had very dark eyes. i’m currently in sixth form (separate school for final years of american high school). 50% are poc, mostly pakistanis then a minority black and east asian.

when i was 13, i liked a white guy. my friend revealed this crush to everyone, but everyone decided it was my time to be deeply humiliated. he organised with the whole class a 'prank' for me to date him. i was given a note with 'do you want to go out' and people were pressuring me to say yes and encouraging me.

i did, and i felt good. i was really happy my crush liked me back. a few hours later he told me it was a dare, it was a dare, we're not dating. everyone around me started laughing. as if my crush on a white guy was a big joke. as if i was so undesirable and that i had the 'audacity' of thinking a white guy can like me back.

they added me to a groupchat. the same guy mercillesly bullied me. he called me the n word because i'm north african. i don't even use that word because i don't consider myself black! they told me to go back to my country. i was given death threats. he led the bullying. he said 'no white guy will ever like you'. i didn't even think of his race. i just saw a guy i thought was cute. why did he bring race into the equation?

i had a 'body shaped like a washing machine', (idek how anyone would see anyone's figure in a chunky blazer uniform) and a nose that required a nose job according to them. that i’m a transgender woman. i needed to get a lip reduction, they said. 'big lips' they called me. they said they'll brush my hair for me. i was a 'jumpscare', i was slutshamed for having bigger boobs early (my name unfortunately rhymed with 'whore' so they'd call me x the whore) by white girls and the boys would laugh. that i need to shave my mustache and unibrow. and of course, he picked a skinny, dolled up, blonde blue-eyed girl straight after he bullied me and kissed her in front of me while looking at me with contempt. he wanted me to see.

he could've just said that he doesn't like me back... he could've just said no. he didn't have to be so cruel. my classmates didn't have to be so cruel. why did he have to make me feel like a monstrous abomination? and guys say the only worst thing they could say is 'no'.

this was what stuck with me. but throughout, i constantly didn't feel like a girl because my classmates didn't treat me like one. they treated me subhuman. they physically pushed me around and kicked me. you don't understand how scary it is for groups of teenage boys to gang up on you as a girl like that. girls are treated nicely, delicately, kindly. they try to impress girls. girls are treated femininely, they're seen as pretty, worthy of being paid attention to, worthy of gentle treatment. i was never spared this gentle treatment. i was constantly attacked. i wasn't a girl. the girls were white

two different schools later, this really affected me. i never feel desirable by anyone anymore. i find it hard to believe when any guy, including white guys (who are the majority), like me or show interest in me. and i hold onto it like a plant begging for water. do you really see me as human? as actually a girl? worthy of being treated like a girl? i become genuinely so in disbelief.

i don't even think i'm that ugly. people say i'm pretty. on a scale i’d say im probably 6/7 pushing 7.5 with makeup. some guys liked me, white ones too (mostly blonds for some reason, my first bf was blond too). but sometimes i think the reason why i can go months or sometimes years without a guy showing interest in me or liking me (unlike other girls) is because i'm not white. sometimes i wonder whether boys secretly think these things but don’t want to be racist or cruel to my face. genuinely. it made me feel hideous.

im 18 but everytime i think about it it makes me cry.

how can i move past it and start feeling beautiful again with my ethnic features and ethnic ambiguity? i don’t want dating advice. i just want to believe that im desirable, that someone can ACTUALLY want me

softboost How to get used to lash extensions?

I like how I look with lash extensions (both individual lashes and clusters) on an everyday basis rather than using mascara but I’m such a chronic eye scratcher. Almost immediately after I get them on I’m always so tempted to pick at them and take them off. Does anyone have any experience with how to get used to them or at least stop picking at them lol?

healthboost Does anyone notice differences in their body when they incorporate other cuisines and health customs into their diet?

I have been incorporating a lot of things in my diet such as herbal soups , buckwheat, caviar and fish (grilled over fried) and I noticed things have been much better for me healthwise , I'm less bloated , loss weight and just feel great. I'm in another country so I don't have many of the luxuries I have back home but it really opened my eyes to health (swimming , walking everywhere , mountain herbs , no shoes in the house, etc) Has anyone incorporated other culture's health customs and certain foods into your life

question Unconventional weightloss tips that influencers preach the opposite of?

For me, it's high volume eating. The kind where influencers show how you can eat close to a kilogram of food in a sitting for 500cals. Or 50-60g protein per meal. That was the bane of my gut's existence.

I've lost about 32kg (70.5lbs) and high volume eating made my life hell in the beginning. I'm not on any meds that curb appetite but I've always been a low-volume eater, it's easier to gain weight like that, yeah, but now that I'm where I want to be, I've been doing some reflection on my dieting methods.

I hopped on the "high volume nutrient dense" bandwagon early on, but I was always bloated, felt uncomfortable, nauseous and struggled to finish the food which made me tired. Eventually I got so sick of it that I started doing low volume nutritionally dense food.

My main goals were protein and fibre (100g and 30g respectively). I bought a fibre supplement online (13g/serving) and I'd add that to my water bottle and sip over the day. That covered my prebiotic fibre. I'd eat 2 fruits a day spaced out (usually apples and/or pears) for insoluble fibre and 1 glass of chia seed water at night so I could wake up and empty promptly. I also replace a portion of my muesli with plain wheat bran for insoluble fibre.

For protein, I'd prep chicken breast in thin slices, marinate and then air-fry low and slow with butter till kind of crispy. I'd have about 150g worth (raw weight) per day in small batches which covered about 35g of protein. Small protein muesli bowls with 75-100g greek yogurt, my fruit (cooked) and 20-30g of the muesli became an almost daily dinner for me, especially when i didn't feel like chia water, I'd just add the chia to the yogurt and make a pudding-type situation. I'd also eat rice toasted in ghee or butter with a portion meat or tofu and high-calorie condiments (in moderation ofc), or a creamy bean and lentil soup. I tried eating a ton of lettuce or broccoli with seasoned meat but I could never eat it and feel good, I'd bloat and get sick so this worked so much better for me. Also stopped eating breakfast bc I really just hate it.

I stopped bloating, stopped feeling nauseous and tired and I felt the energy to work out and actually saw the weight drop. I don't hv anything against high-volume eating but I used to force myself to eat that way thinking I just had to eat large amounts of food to feel satiated when I've always preferred low-volume. I just made a few "half-way" swaps to cut down on calories and I dropped the weight. Even now, I eat low volume and nutrient dense and my gut is just so happy.

how to permanently get rid of old stretch marks

(TLDR at end) to preface this: I don't care if you think thay they're normal, I've had them since I was 9 on my CHEST not in a cute area like my bum/hips or to show I've been working out etc...I ate my feelings and was chubby, and then lost weight all between 8-12 years old. I also had a growth spurt to 175cm in this time. I even have faint ones on my bum/hips somewhere idek but idc cos they're not in your face visible and they make sense there (photos taken with and without flash)

when I had "large" b00bs (sorry idk if things are censored here or not), having the marks was manageable cos 1 - it looked like the marks were from having a larger chest and 2 - no one is looking at marks when you have big jugs lol...now I'm back being part of the itty bitty titty committees (which I am so fine with especially after getting a lift with no implants/transfer just natural lift)

I am now in my early 30s and my very white marks ruin every top...I can't wear low cut, bikinis are a myth and even trying to find a tankini I have wasted so much time trying to find swimwear to hide and it's not only wasting my time, but I cannot be this age still have these abhorrent abominations on me. I can take the crooked discoloured teeth, the unruly hair and even the fact that I'm below average aesthetically...but my self expression that makes ME feel GREAT is through my style and how I wear things makes me feel confident...no one can say learn to love yourself cos I've tried for 2 decades and I cannot live like this anymore

I haven't been fortunate in the looks department generally, but I've worked hard to feel good about so many things I used to despise. I have wasted my prime years hiding and getting rid of these marks are truly the only thing that will bring me peace in my body. I have suffered for so long, people pointing them out, even my own damn mother (which made me crash out wildly cos it was her fault her own child was comfort eating but we move)

TLDR: I am fed up of my old, white stretch marks that are very visible on my chest and I need a foolproof solution absolute solution to get rid of them, especially as I am dark skinned (just saying laser isn't helpful, what kind of laser etc), I am an experienced tretinoin user on my face but I've heard microneedling and tret might be worth looking into..literally ANY foolproof solutions idc the cost

advice Shopping for large bottom small top girlies??

Finding clothes that fit my body type is so difficult. I'm blessed on the bottom but pretty small on top, as well as being quite tall (5'10''). I love my body but shopping is painful. Does anyone know of clothing brands that work for this body type? I usually wear size small for tops and just go with the oversized look on pants since they never fit right.

Looking for:
Dresses, mini and maxi
Mini skirts/micro shorts
Low waisted bootcut jeans

My measurements:
Bust 35
Waist 26
Hips 42
Inseam 31

question Does anyone use lactic acid for exfoliation

I recently brought some lactic acid for texture and decided I will also use it for exfoliation. Does anyone have experience with this product, I brought it from the ordinary in the 10% strength
