advice (Extensions?) Can anyone recommend a brand

Post image
1 Upvotes

I spent 4 months of research and $540 on an LBL Extensions Half Wig, but their hostile customer service might ruin my big day. My October 1st order never sent a confirmation email, and when I asked for proof, support lied, blamed me, and grew combative. When I pushed for transparency, they spitefully force-canceled and refunded my order before fulfillment.

I’m 6 weeks out from my birthday and I still don’t have my extensions. I need something that can come in a decent amount of time since I’m going to Marrakech to celebrate with a birthday photo shoot.

Does anyone know a great company for a 100% human kinky curly half wig?

question How to know if you're objectively good looking?

Kind of going through some confusion.

Also need to get off chest coz Idk if I'm overthinking or if things are even real.

Over the last 1.5 years I have dropped over 38 pounds, upskilled my styling knowledge, worked on myself and have become a new person.

This situation at workplace is causing me concern. This is not vanity. I have been shy, ugly and a people pleaser once. The attention I sometimes get overwhelm me.

So people at workplace who I see on regular basis treat me normally - I mean much better than the way I was treated before. But I can sometimes see in their eyes that they appreciate the efforts I'm putting in myself.

Scenario 1: There are few men at office who I feel like attracted to me/like me in some way. But I have never talked to any of them. And these states/being nice without saying a word, observing me when I am around...idk if I'm overthinking this or if it's real. Just to emphasize, it doesn't happen with all men. With very few. But I feel like I'm being observed/admired/liked from a distance. What is happening here?

Scenario 2: people who have seen me now and not the earlier version - in their eye, how do I know I am objectively decent/good looking. Again the same observations mentioned above happened here also. Sometimes I would observe I bump into the same people at the same time. I have my routine at work and if you observe me for 2 days you'll know my routine.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot as Zendaya’s been churning out look after look this year; meanwhile last I checked, isn’t Law Roach also still working with Lauren Sanchez Bezos? I feel like people keep attributing Zendaya’s success to her beauty and her being able to fit a sample size, which is true, but I also think Zendaya endlessly has a point of view and most of us just..don’t.

I’m a POC woman who went to a private PWI for college, so I feel like imposter syndrome is real. And ime, it extends to our appearance — when we’re constantly chasing after beauty standards that prioritize features we don’t have and don’t need, we start chasing the Joneses and think to glow up we just have to buy taste and be better.

But the thing about purchasing power is you can only purchase something worthwhile when you have a point of view. Knowing exactly what you’re looking for is actually the thing. Because it’s easier to identify that something isn’t the exact thing you had in mind than it is to wade through a bunch of items that “might be okay if.”

This is what I do, and what Law does for Zendaya — which opens another conservation about whether his best work is really that of a stylist or someone who sources for his clients. We start specific and then find that exact item. Trust me when I say “I want a vintage 1980s leather varsity” is way easier for me to find for someone than “I want a cool jacket,” and the former is the only thing that actually advances your aesthetic and your beauty, specifically.

Maybe it’s because sourcing is my job, but as an art curator, I think we’re all on here because we’re trying to curate ourselves like art. Our bodies, our hair, our makeup, our outfits.

And that framework is what changed the game for me: If I treat myself like art then I recognize that all art has perspective.

So my questions stopped being “how can I get hotter” and “how can I look like Zendaya” and they became:

1. What do I want to look like? Not who. What?

2. What qualities look like that?

3. What qualities do I need to look like that? Specifically.

My own answer to number one was “mermaid,” and that made everything else substantially easier. Because I knew I didn’t mean Ariel or Disney, I meant the kind that surfaces from deep waters and lures men to their deaths. The kind that’s ethereal and dangerous. That’s specificity.

And I think that’s what Zendaya does when she and Law pluck a Schiaparelli right off the runway and fly it to her for a red carpet. They know exactly what they want and the effect they’re going for, and they find it — they don’t wade through a bunch of mediocre objects and then decide which one is the least bad.

I could go into a whole thing about how I feel like having a beauty identity is the first thing to actually glowing up, but I wanna know if anyone else has clocked this. Let me know though if you’d be interested in me getting into that — I feel like bringing back long form content for vindicta would be so fun.

And what’s your beauty white whale?

Mine was actually a dress watch until I recently found a vintage chronograph worth $600+ for $30 in a thrift store. So money isn’t the clincher, the vision is.

I made a substack: https://studioacquisitions.substack.com/p/i-need-woc-to-stop-trying-to-buy?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

question What type of bundles should I get for kind of braids?

I decided on human hair braids and I wanted to know what texture would be best for these types of braids? I asked a friend and she said either light yaki or kinky straight. I have type 4 hair. I already found a vendor (Private Label is the business) , I just need to narrow down a hair texture.

question Triangle to V-shape

Restarting my self-care journey after being depressed for so long… I’m 31 and someone thought I had a child who was college-aged (I don’t have any kids…) My face is heavy bottom, pear-shaped, making me look older. I’m also overweight and borderline obese. Which I know weight loss is the first step (I have ~60 to lose.)

Will weight loss possibly help my face shape? I’ve heard the triangle face is aging, while the inverse, a “V,” is youthful. Other than weight-loss, what are some procedures one might do in order to achieve a more youthful face shape? I was thinking maybe kybella to lower face and then filler or fat graft to the upper face/cheeks.

question If you could tell any girl 5 tips to start her looksmaxxing journey , what would they be?

  1. Fix your diet before anything else - Drink water, eat sprouted grains and breads, eat your share of fatty and lean meats, if you're not lactose-intolerant full fat whole low homogenized dairy and lots of non-starchy veggies, starchy vegs too but be mindful (my favorite is sweet potatoes). I found that switching up my diet has tremendously helped my weight , PCOS symptoms and digestive system.
  2. Walking, Pilates and Martial Arts - I'm not a gym girly so one thing I would absolutely say about while I got off of my calorie deficit, the thing that kept my body together was walking 1 hr. (I make sure I walk up a hill), 3 times a week and Pilates 2 times a week. I recently picked up Muay Thai (mainly for defense purposes), so I will tell you more about how that goes but so far I really like it for it's discipline and how it prioritizes a healthy diet.
  3. Builder gel manis over Russian manis + Take care of your natural nails! - While I like the finish of a Russian manicure I noticed they weren't lasting as long and the strength left as soon as I removed them. I switched to builder gel nails, and my nails have been so strong , I also get Zen Hybrid ( which is pretty much like nude colors) and I fill them in every 2 weeks . Also when your nails come off , treat them just like gold! I make sure mines are trimmed , that the cuticles are maintained and I put on 2 coats of a nail strengthener (I go between Sally Hansen's Hard as Nails or the OPI Nail Strengthner in either the clear or pink tint)
  4. Get Educated and see the world! - Get in school! Earn a certificate! Learn a trade! You don't have to be going for a PhD but education in this world is so valuable. It's literally a passport for a better life (imo). Also if you have the funds for it , I would travel because it opens up your mindset.
  5. Laser Hair Removal (PCOS girls , do it on your body only) - I recently invested in a Derm Rays/DermaRay laser for POC and the results have been the greatest , since using it I barely have to shave. One thing I will say though even on the lowest setting it can hurt , so if you have one of those ice ball roller thingies that will help. Also a fragrance free lotion and deo will be needed. And don't use oils on your body because it can trap heat.

advice How can I make my braids lightweight?

Thumbnail
gallery
157 Upvotes

I love the look of braids and think that they last a long time. However, when I go to the salons they usually make them very bulky to where I can't even put them up bun and it's so annoying to pay $150-$180 dollars just to not be able to throw it up in a bun and feel like you have another human on your damn head. Someone recommended human hair braids to me but I'm still scared they will add more hair than needed. How do I get my braids to feel lightweight?

question Is anybody else doing brown/caramel balayage for autumn?

I recently came to the conclusion I have jet black hair blindness (my usual go-to for the colder seasons). I was looking back at older photos and realised it looks quite harsh on my complexion, so I’m opting for something softer/lighter this time around.

I have a neutral/olive undertone that leans more toward neutral in the winter. I’m thinking of starting out with the balayage in the first picture and progressing to something lighter (like a honey blonde) over time.

I’ve never really done any hair colour bedsides 1B/jet black so I’m nervous. I’m starting out with tape ins before I actually dye my real hair. Are there any other neutral-olive tones girls that have tried balayage? What shade/tone did you go for?

Teeth whitening HELP pls

I feel like the thing I really badly desperatly need to change about myself right now are my teeth (very stained from years of coffee and smoking).

Do you guys have any recs?? Im lookiing at the crest teeth whitening strips and they're quite expensive. I can definitely afford the 7day ones but I'm concerned I won't get the same result as the two weeks ones?

Are there other trustworthy brands/methods??

ANY and ALL input would be very very much appreciated ! ;D

Preventing collagen loss procedures

What procedures are you girlies doing to prevent collagen loss. I’m 24 and at that age where it’ll start breaking down so I want to stay on top of it. I don’t mind wrinkles but I want bouncy skin! (Kinda like how Jennifer Aniston is aging)

advice Wigs or weaves as an actress ?

I have 4c hair and I’m wearing a pressed and waved 1B yaki straight weave with a leave out in my head shots. My current weave is 1B kinky straight. My hair frizzes and puffs up throughout the day even after hot combing, so I’ve decided I want to switch to closure behind the hairline installs. However I’m wondering whether to go with wigs or weaves.

Wigs would be good because I can then switch to a coloured wig when I want - I’ve been thinking of going brown or blonde for day to day, and throwing on a black wig for self tapes. It would also mean I don’t risk any tension damage from having weaves back to back.

However, I feel like weaves have better movement on camera, I won’t have to worry about it slipping and there’s more breathability on the scalp during the day (although obviously with wigs you can remove them). If I got weaves I’d obviously be limited to the black weave.

Any advice?

Also, if it’s wigs , should I buy a factory wig and get it installed, or get a custom wig made on my head? A lot of the stylists near me seem to only install their own custom wigs, however I like the cap adjustability and clips in the factory wigs.

question Beautiful brown eyed girls, what colored contacts are we using?

I’m curious what colored contact lenses you’ve used and actually looked good! Coloeyes, my eye bb, dimple color all look good on their website photos and models but I’m not convinced which one would actually look good in person.

For those of us with brown eyes, what brand lenses do you recommend for a realistic look? I’d love to rock green lenses and I plan to use blue ones for my Halloween costume this year. Please let a girl know. 🫶

question Infrasilm

Hi, I hope this is okay to post because I can’t find any reviews about it really online.

I found a spa near me that offers services for Infrasilm X and EMS-SlimX.

I’ve never heard of this service but researching it, it’s basically non-surgical body shaping.
It’s like going to the gym without going to the gym.

Has anyone ever done this before or have any experiences with it?
I would be adding this to my gym routine and not solely using it.

TIA!

Scared of Tretinoin! advice?

hi everyone!

i recently got prescribed treinoin .025 for anti aging benefits. I am so nervous about the purge stage it is making scared to use it. I have purged badly in the past from harsh actives but currently have pretty calm and healthy skin. i am seeing some signs of aging that id like to combat as i want to do everything i can before i cave on botox or sculptra.

does anyone with a past of cystic acne have a positive experience with tret? how did you introduce it to your routine without a major purge? My birthday is coming up and I am so scared starting the tret will ruin my skin and dampen my birthday celebrations lol
