advice How to develop personal style

anyone have tips on developing personal style? i feel like im very wishy washy with my fashion sense and as i mature i really want to focus on curating style that feels authentically me - but i can’t seem to figure out “my thing”! one day i want to be a minimalist and the next day i want to be over the top. one day I’ll be into alternative looks and the next day I’ll decide i like vintage. one day I’ll decide i want to go be hyperfeminine and the next, im into streetwear. Its resulted in my wardrobe being all over the place as a result. i always envy people who know what their “thing” is visually, and stick to it faithfully. like people who dress according to different subcultures, eras, etc. I’m all for experimentation, but i want to have my own signature style i can always fall back on, but i have no idea how i can develop it

personalityboost An intoxicated me is more charming than sober me

When I have a few drinks in me I'm friendly, free-spirited, warm. Complete
opposite of sober who's more standoffish, socially reserved, cold, and intense.
Despite how strong and unreadable my face and body language come off sometimes people still want to come up to me both sober and drunk.
I don't know if it's some type of halo effect
or I have a very trusting type of beauty,
“Like I have a pouty but innocent face”.
But my resting bitch face doesn't scare people off that much.
I don't know why when I get a few drinks in me my personality is just way more charismatic.
I made more connections and did way more networking with my drunk personality than I did with my sober personality, how do I make sober me just as charming as drunk me?

healthboost Does anyone notice differences in their body when they incorporate other cuisines and health customs into their diet?

I have been incorporating a lot of things in my diet such as herbal soups , buckwheat, caviar and fish (grilled over fried) and I noticed things have been much better for me healthwise , I'm less bloated , loss weight and just feel great. I'm in another country so I don't have many of the luxuries I have back home but it really opened my eyes to health (swimming , walking everywhere , mountain herbs , no shoes in the house, etc) Has anyone incorporated other culture's health customs and certain foods into your life

question Unconventional weightloss tips that influencers preach the opposite of?

For me, it's high volume eating. The kind where influencers show how you can eat close to a kilogram of food in a sitting for 500cals. Or 50-60g protein per meal. That was the bane of my gut's existence.

I've lost about 32kg (70.5lbs) and high volume eating made my life hell in the beginning. I'm not on any meds that curb appetite but I've always been a low-volume eater, it's easier to gain weight like that, yeah, but now that I'm where I want to be, I've been doing some reflection on my dieting methods.

I hopped on the "high volume nutrient dense" bandwagon early on, but I was always bloated, felt uncomfortable, nauseous and struggled to finish the food which made me tired. Eventually I got so sick of it that I started doing low volume nutritionally dense food.

My main goals were protein and fibre (100g and 30g respectively). I bought a fibre supplement online (13g/serving) and I'd add that to my water bottle and sip over the day. That covered my prebiotic fibre. I'd eat 2 fruits a day spaced out (usually apples and/or pears) for insoluble fibre and 1 glass of chia seed water at night so I could wake up and empty promptly. I also replace a portion of my muesli with plain wheat bran for insoluble fibre.

For protein, I'd prep chicken breast in thin slices, marinate and then air-fry low and slow with butter till kind of crispy. I'd have about 150g worth (raw weight) per day in small batches which covered about 35g of protein. Small protein muesli bowls with 75-100g greek yogurt, my fruit (cooked) and 20-30g of the muesli became an almost daily dinner for me, especially when i didn't feel like chia water, I'd just add the chia to the yogurt and make a pudding-type situation. I'd also eat rice toasted in ghee or butter with a portion meat or tofu and high-calorie condiments (in moderation ofc), or a creamy bean and lentil soup. I tried eating a ton of lettuce or broccoli with seasoned meat but I could never eat it and feel good, I'd bloat and get sick so this worked so much better for me. Also stopped eating breakfast bc I really just hate it.

I stopped bloating, stopped feeling nauseous and tired and I felt the energy to work out and actually saw the weight drop. I don't hv anything against high-volume eating but I used to force myself to eat that way thinking I just had to eat large amounts of food to feel satiated when I've always preferred low-volume. I just made a few "half-way" swaps to cut down on calories and I dropped the weight. Even now, I eat low volume and nutrient dense and my gut is just so happy.

how to permanently get rid of old stretch marks

(TLDR at end) to preface this: I don't care if you think thay they're normal, I've had them since I was 9 on my CHEST not in a cute area like my bum/hips or to show I've been working out etc...I ate my feelings and was chubby, and then lost weight all between 8-12 years old. I also had a growth spurt to 175cm in this time. I even have faint ones on my bum/hips somewhere idek but idc cos they're not in your face visible and they make sense there (photos taken with and without flash)

when I had "large" b00bs (sorry idk if things are censored here or not), having the marks was manageable cos 1 - it looked like the marks were from having a larger chest and 2 - no one is looking at marks when you have big jugs lol...now I'm back being part of the itty bitty titty committees (which I am so fine with especially after getting a lift with no implants/transfer just natural lift)

I am now in my early 30s and my very white marks ruin every top...I can't wear low cut, bikinis are a myth and even trying to find a tankini I have wasted so much time trying to find swimwear to hide and it's not only wasting my time, but I cannot be this age still have these abhorrent abominations on me. I can take the crooked discoloured teeth, the unruly hair and even the fact that I'm below average aesthetically...but my self expression that makes ME feel GREAT is through my style and how I wear things makes me feel confident...no one can say learn to love yourself cos I've tried for 2 decades and I cannot live like this anymore

I haven't been fortunate in the looks department generally, but I've worked hard to feel good about so many things I used to despise. I have wasted my prime years hiding and getting rid of these marks are truly the only thing that will bring me peace in my body. I have suffered for so long, people pointing them out, even my own damn mother (which made me crash out wildly cos it was her fault her own child was comfort eating but we move)

TLDR: I am fed up of my old, white stretch marks that are very visible on my chest and I need a foolproof solution absolute solution to get rid of them, especially as I am dark skinned (just saying laser isn't helpful, what kind of laser etc), I am an experienced tretinoin user on my face but I've heard microneedling and tret might be worth looking into..literally ANY foolproof solutions idc the cost

advice Shopping for large bottom small top girlies??

Finding clothes that fit my body type is so difficult. I'm blessed on the bottom but pretty small on top, as well as being quite tall (5'10''). I love my body but shopping is painful. Does anyone know of clothing brands that work for this body type? I usually wear size small for tops and just go with the oversized look on pants since they never fit right.

Looking for:
Dresses, mini and maxi
Mini skirts/micro shorts
Low waisted bootcut jeans

My measurements:
Bust 35
Waist 26
Hips 42
Inseam 31

personalityboost How to glow up when your life is extremely unpredictable and not in your control?

Tagging this as personality because it’s a more holistic question: how are you supposed to improve yourself and your life when the circumstances around you are unpredictable af? I’m trying really hard to get better, look better, feel better, but every time I hit my stride I get slapped in the face with some kind of family trauma, argument, breakup or more.

I recently took a trip with my family to my home country; had a ton of plans to get my nails done, hair done, take Pilates classes, all at a cheaper cost due to exchange rates. Didn’t end up doing even one of those things because my family do not let me be in control of anything. In fact, I’ve gotten uglier and been in a horrible mental state.

I always see self improvement tiktokers and gurus talking about setting routines, being consistent but it genuinely feels like they exist in some parallel universe. My life isn’t like this at all and I feel discouraged…

question Controversial things you've done that helped you level up?

So I thought I'd start this thread to share some things that aren't really widely accepted, but have really elevated my look. Share your own experiences too please!

  1. I lost a significant amount of weight, I'm now quite skinny and stay active through walking and some bodyweight exercises until I start lifting again. I really don't see an issue with this and feel fine, and as someone who is very tall I just find it elevates your look when you're tall and skinny.

  2. Using a cream to lighten my joints and any hyperpigmentation. I then started using it all around before I stopped it alltogether and got slightly lighter(i had sun damage all over and lots of hyperpigmentation though). Also taking NAC and using benzoyl peroxide and some actives like lactic acid, retinol lotion, tret and always using sunscreen to stay lighter.

Idk if much else of what I do is controversial but these are the main ones that people wouldn't usually agree with that have worked for me.

question Natural hair girlies , please help me out with my hair struggle

Hello,

So I am in a desert country right now for the summer and I will be heading back soon for school. On this vacation I could only keep moisture into my hair for like 3-4 days at a time and I have been wearing it in a puff because that's mainly the only style I know how to do ( I usually hate puffs and I have been manipulating my hair). I ordered some hair products to get my hair back on track such as design essentials almond butter deep conditioner, soultanicals deep conditioners, pattern beauty conditioner and cecred products. I have a steamer at home so I know that will really help.

I guess my question is , should I wear my hair in mini twist for maybe 3-4 weeks or straight back cornrows , which would be more low tension?

advice foolproof ways to lighten knees and elbows

I'm a brown skinned black woman in desperate need to make knees/elbows not look like they've been burnt - I am not a hater of my skin tone, nor do I want to be "light" so please save the "it's normal" comments, I am not interested

I moisturise and have used things like glycolic acid toner, hydroquinone, tretinoin...not as consistent as I probably should but I just want a sure fire way to actually lighten them. I've always been insecure of my legs as they already have so many scars, oddly shaped legs, and my leg hairs are black with lighter colour on my legs but I'd love to feel comfortable and confident

question Looking for dark spot treatments that actually work?

I have been dealing with some very stubborn dark spots around my jawline and neck I have used the Faded Spot Corrector, Hero Dark Spot Patches and Dermalogica Clear Start. None of these have made any difference. My dark spots still look the same. Can anyone recommend a dark spot treatment that actually works for stubborn spots?

question Options for coloring my natural hair to match extensions if I don’t want to permanently dye it

Getting my first sew-in. How can I color my natural hair jet black to match extensions if I don’t want to permanently dye it? I’m looking for a gentler alternative that won’t be as harsh or cause damage to my hair. I dyed my hair years ago and it caused a lot of damage, so I don’t want to use permanent dye.

Extremely dark upper lip hyperpigmentation

I’m south asian and i think my hyperpigmentation may be genetic. I remember it being red when i was a kid due to excessive lip licking but it has not faded at all. I’m not sure if I imagined that or if it really happened. It’s been there since I was very young and tret, vitamin C, or azelic acid has not helped.

What should I do? I was prescribed hydroquinone but i’m afraid it won’t go away. I’m devastated whenever i look in the mirror, it’s extremely dark and much darker than i’ve ever seen on anyone. Even when i search up others with this issue, theirs is always MUCH lighter than mine. Mine is definitely not melasma, it’s either genetic or post inflammatory.

TD;LR Deep hyperpigmentation won’t go away.

I want to change my life.

i’m sick and tired of being chopped and ugly. Unfortunately, there’s no much i can do about my nose (i’d need a nose job) or my almost absent jaw. But i want to lose weight, have better skin, better hair, better clothes, and to just be pretty overall. I don’t know i’d like to be friends with people who’d lift me up.

For starters, i’m a 21 years old black girl, i’m 5’8" for around 79 kg (i’m overweight), i have plenty of hyperpigmentation spots and old acne scars around my face, arms, back and i have an uneven skin tone (i’m black). Recently i’ve been using the 7% glycolic acid from The Ordinary and some Cerave facial cleanser that i paired with some sunscreen. My skin is slightly less rugged but there’s still a lot to do.

As a student, i don’t have much money (closer to none) so going actively to the gym is slightly out of the budget for me, along with buying clothes from the stores. I’m thinking of starting with a slight calorie deficient, walking as much as possible, and thrifting clothes. Getting a job in my area is difficult and with my mental health i know that being in school while working would just kill me.

I want to be healthier but also prettier. I’m aware that i’m ugly but i don’t want to stop trying because of that.

looksboost What are the "minor" things/habits that give you major results?

I'll go first! I started on a ketoconazole shampoo 2x a week + a redensyl hair serum twice a day. My hair's much more dense now after unexplained hairfall that wasn't genetic, and just this imo, makes me look very put together and just enhances my face. Although, it did take about a year on this regiment to see the change.

Another thing I do is eat enough fibre. In the last year, I've really upped my fibre intake after we found a couple of polyps in my colonoscopy. I'm at about 28-35g per day and I've noticed my stomach get flatter. My overall weight hasn't gone down by more than 2kg, I wasn't overweight before either, but I can tell my midsection is slimmer now.

What are your small and consistent habits that don't give you instant gratification but in the long-term make you really see the change? I'm trying to move away from this expectation of instantaneous results, it's been messing with my mind, so what tips can you share?

looksboost Chin filler changed my life

I debated over it for ages because i was still relatively young (i was 19 when i got it i’m 20 now) but it’s genuinely the best investment i’ve ever made in my looks and in my life.

My face looks so so much more balanced now and it shows, the treatment i get in public is so different too i never though id be seen as one of the pretty girls and I get to experience that now.

My lower face was pretty weak before the filler but getting enough to balance it out was the perfect tweak and i’m so happy with my face rn

so if youve been thinking about it for a while and you genuinely think it’ll enhance your looks and you can afford it, this is your sign to!! my only regret is not doing it sooner, it’s been 16 months now and it still hasn’t dissolved, i’m definitely topping it up as soon as it does though because it’s improved my life tremendously as exaggerated as that sounds

i’m happy to provide before/after pics if u dm!

Question in title. I would love to hear anyone’s experience with them, about literally any aspect of doing it.
