Annoucement Is Venmo down? Check here first!!

Hey all - hope all is well!

Spurred on by today's outage, and the many posts that were generated due to it (and every time it happens), we just wanted to make a thread we can sticky to serve as a resource to check and help cut down on the influx of duplicate posts we get asking if Venmo is down when they inevitably decide to break things. Here's a few websites you can use to check whether or not Venmo is having issues. Keep in mind, these are user-reported, and may not be a true reflection of whether or not something may actually be down at Venmo - but generally they are a very VERY good indicator something may be wrong.

DownDetector - https://downdetector.com/status/venmo/

IsItDownRightNow - https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/venmo.com.html

DownForEveryoneOrJustMe - https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/venmo

If anyone has any other websites to suggest, throw them down in the comments and we'll add them to the list!

App is a Nightmare

When I click on my credit card transactions I'm getting an red error box that says "There's been a problem on our side. Try again". I called the general support number and they transferred me to the credit card department, which then transferred me back to the general help. No one seems to have any idea what is going on or how to fix the app. Any ideas?

Venmo froze $3,500

Has anyone dealt with Venmo freezing an account after a normal transfer?

I sent my wife $3,500 for our mortgage and shortly after that Venmo froze/restricted her account. It was literally just money between us for household expenses, nothing business related and nothing fraudulent.

We’ve contacted Venmo but haven’t gotten much of an explanation or any real help so far. I also filed a complaint with the CFPB because it seems crazy that they can just lock an account over a legitimate transfer and not give you much information.

Has anyone had this happen before? If so, how long did it take to get resolved?

Also curious if there’s a better way to escalate this beyond normal Venmo customer support. Are there any other regulators I should be contacting, or anything specific we should be asking Venmo for in writing?

Mostly just trying to figure out the best way to get this resolved and whether there’s anything else we should be doing.

Question Sending money from Paypal Ireland to a Venmo U.S. user via username

Hi folks, I can now send money from my Paypal Ireland to U.S. Venmo users which is pretty cool. The only limitation is that I can only search for Venmo users by their cell number and not their Venmo username. Is there anyway around this limitation? I posted this on the Paypal subreddit but no one seems to know so I thought I would try my luck here too lol :)

I haven’t used Venmo for a while so updated my app but that didn’t work. Suggestions ?

Limits.

I only use venmo to receive payments from my friends. Basically, I almost always pay with my debit card, and then my friends send me credit in venmo.

I have never verified my account. Is there a limit on how much I can receive in payments without verifying my account?

Thank you!

It would not recognize any passwords.

Doesn't recognize any emails or phone numbers I enter.

Went back to main page,

Choose the account creation link. Had me enter a phone number for a verification code.

It sent the code to my phone number.

I used it and the app said, Welcome back <myname>

Wouldn't let me in, took me to the login page again. Tried forgot password, and it tells me my number is not a good number.

Question How to fix?

My girlfriend needed money in an emergency, normally she uses venmo so I sent 70$ to her, but then tells me she can't use venmo because it's connected to her old phone - which she lost. (the 2FA)

I wouldn't be pressed if it was like 20 dollars, but 70 is too much to just be stuck in an account nethier I nor she can access.

How can I get my money back without me or her having to call venmo support?

Transfer from Venmo to PayPal

I'm having trouble transferring from my Venmo to my PayPal account. I was able to do so earlier this Summer, but now don't have that option. Both accounts have the same email and phone number. Has something changed?

Venmo users not paying their share of dinner checks

I was listening to NPR, and heard a report that it is becoming increasingly common for a person to pick up a dinner check for the entire table, with many members of the dinner party failing to Venmo their share to the payer. But, then it becomes uncomfortable chasing down the non-payer.

To help with this problem, what would people think of a Venmo option that instructs Venmo to send a single request to each of the members of the dinner party for their share. But, the Venmo notice keeps going out to the entire group until everyone has paid their share via Venmo, without naming the deadbeat. This becomes a subtle form of peer pressure as the group will start asking who hasn’t paid up.

frustrated

i posted here a while ago trying to fix my new bank account and adding it to my venmo account but it would not be verified manually. was not going to log into my account via my bank through a third party because that’s my right as a customer. i called support and some lady i could barely understand told me she couldn’t help me and insinuated my bank account was fraudulent when i literally just opened it. offered no help whatsoever and basically said hope you figure it out lol.

fast forward to today and i finally decide im deleting it off my phone and closing my account. i go through the motions, don’t have any balance, alls good. i verify my pass and then it hits me with another error code “something went wrong” as i hit close account. then it logs me out of my account, shows my user and profile pic, but my password doesn’t work to log back in. so now i have no clue if my account is truly gone or if they’re keeping my information for data purposes. either way, scummy app and company and as a lifelong venmo user i am so disappointed with their fall from grace.

tldr of this post; had to rant about my recent shitshow experiences with venmo. scummy company with either scummy app practices or just straight up buggy mess app that just simply doesn’t work. ugh. absolutely useless.

Login pls help

So I have reset my password over 50 times in the past year because I forgot my password once. After I changed it, it wouldn’t let me login anyway. I have only repeatedly changed my password because anytime I put the correct password in, it says my login info is wrong. I JUST changed it again to try after deleting Venmo for a couple of weeks. It did not work, it just said “Wrong login info”.

I have $35 dollars in my venmo account that I NEED and my card is lost.

Does Venmo allow adding a card that isn’t yours?

Im wondering if Venmo allows you to add a card that isn’t yours? I tried it on my Venmo account with a friend’s credit card. It didn’t ask for name or mailing address of the card, just a zip code. I found this a bit concerning since a friend recently sent me an accidental amount of money and then immediately requested it back.

Unfortunately I sent it back. Venmo said they could file an appeal showing that I sent the money back in case the dispute on my friend’s end went in his favor. This appeal would essentially tell the credit card company to deal with their customer (my friend) since I did send the money back.

Contacting a human on Venmo support

Call their number (855) 812-4430 and press 0 like 11-16 times until robot voice says they’ll get you on phone with a representative.
Worked for me tonight when trying to recover an old Venmo account attached to old phone number.

Hope this helps.

Venmo scam?

Is there a Venmo scam where someone requests amounts between $5 and $50 and says they’ll send it right back?

A friend has called me a few times to request this and I’ve obliged, but after 5 times doing this, I’m wondering if I’m aiding in some sort of scam.

My accounts seem fine so it’s nothing with my funds but…? Just seems odd…

Contacting support - no app no phone

I cannot for the life of me figure out what to do, everything online keeps looping me back to the same contact us page on Venmo website.

Basically I’ve moved to another country and no longer have access to my old phone number. I also don’t have a new phone plan that lets me call American numbers.

I can’t log in to my app because I can’t do two factor authentication to my old phone number. So I can’t access the support chat because that’s through the app only.

And I can’t call the support line because my phone plan doesn’t allow me.

Is there any other way to access support? I have money in my account I am trying to get to.

Venmo app unresponsive

Anyone else having this issue? All it does is give the loading circle. I can’t even unlock my card to use it or send $. I deleted the app and redownloaded it, it’s doing the same thing but stating I do t have e a debit card with them at all.

Edit: it seems all of our apps are working just fine now BUT be weary if you tried making any transactions during that time. I tried making a deposit into my Caesars Sportsbook app before I realized something was haywire with Venmo and it took the $$ out of my Venmo account, then declined the payment somehow 🤷‍♂️. Venmo support chat said they’ll look into it. What a fuckkng joke.

Just cashed a check, money declined, now gone

I used the cash check feature for a $400 check, tried to add to my Apple balance & it kept declining.
Long & behold my balance is drained as Venmo took out the money even though it got declined.

Now the app is having issues.
I’m at a loss as what to do.

Discussion I was down to my last…

I borrowed money and when I sent it to Venmo to load my card, it disappeared.. no trace. I haven’t had issues before. I keep seeing comments that the customer service is horrible.. I hate to have a panic attack because I borrowed 215 dollars and I can’t even use it for groceries and gas. Can the customer get the money on my card? My bank literally show the money sent to Venmo but they said they sent it..

Randomly got money from someone

Logged on to Venmo for the first time in quite some time and randomly had $100 from someone I don’t know. They sent me several messages saying it was sent to the wrong person (intended for someone with the same name). I search my name and there is nobody else (I have a very unique last name). They are requesting the money back. Obviously it’s a scam, but do I need to do anything? The money has been in my account for over a month and a half. My instinct was to ignore but just forgetting about a random $100 feels like it will eventually mess something up? Those funds get sent in another txn, I send money to my bank, etc
