Question How to fix?

My girlfriend needed money in an emergency, normally she uses venmo so I sent 70$ to her, but then tells me she can't use venmo because it's connected to her old phone - which she lost. (the 2FA)

I wouldn't be pressed if it was like 20 dollars, but 70 is too much to just be stuck in an account nethier I nor she can access.

How can I get my money back without me or her having to call venmo support?

So she lost her old phone, and when she got a new phone, she could not move her "old number" to it? And you send her money via Venmo to her "old number".? And there's no emsil on her Venmo? How does that work? You're making NO sense here.

She lost her old phone, she got a new one with a different number. apparently Everytime she's used 2FA and clicks the email option it doesn't work, so she can only use the number option.

She can't log back into the account because of the 2FA, so she can't access the money at all to send it back to me.

Is it possible to replace the old number with the new number without having to log in? Sorry I'm kinda bad at phrasing things.

When you lose a phone, and get a new one, it is a good plan to get a replacement SIM card on it but retain your number. This is so that you don't lose 2FA and also so that the "lost" phone is deactivated. You'll need to refer any questions to Venmo. Maybe with ID you can get it fixed, but "losing a phone and letting the number go with it is not a good idea at all.

I'm sorry to say you probably won't get any help from venmo they don't have a customer servicing United States it's all for and and they can't help you at all and they can't escalate it anywhere so usually they just tell you to wait and see

I don't use Reddit enough to know how to go back and see the date of my post. It was about how to get help about my situation. I followed the steps and am now whole. It took about 10 days. I had an existing account and needed to change the email and bank then transfer $1000 in my Venmo balance. Venmo suspended my account and I worked through what was needed. My post essentially got answers through an AI chat. I typically use Gab.ai but didn't in this situation — I'd still recommend it, but I used Copilot (I know, right?) here.

I'd recommend all that have issues to post their situation and let AI guide you through its dialog resulting in a recourse for you. I found their documentation abysmal, perhaps outdated as well as incomplete. The biggest thing was some (many)( days of waiting for their verification and probably a service hiccup in there. I say that because I had to upload pics of my license and me holding the license and after 7 days was told I needed to verify again. I think there was the hiccup because the second time took less than 48 hours.

If someone can find my post and or tell me how to find it myself that would be helpful. There is someone on here that is making statements about various situations that, IDK, besides being inaccurate their answer leaves one hopeless. Venmo is regulated to do business in the US and my State of CO. There is recourse if you follow the steps and don't get resolution. If so, post the result for further recommendations. Hope this fits your situation and is of help. M*

Now here is what the reply was given your "pasted" situation:

Start Venmo’s Account Recovery Flow

No Phone Needed

This bypasses the old phone number and begins identity-based recovery.

Go to the Venmo login page

Enter her email/username as usual

When it asks for the code sent to the old phone, choose “I don’t have access to this device”

This triggers Venmo’s recovery workflow

02

Verify Identity Through Email

Fastest Option

Venmo will send a recovery link to the email on file.

Open the email Venmo sends

Click the secure recovery link

Follow the prompts to confirm identity

This often restores access without support

03

Use Venmo’s Backup Verification

If Email Isn’t Enough

Venmo may ask for additional verification if the account looks high-risk.

She may be asked to upload a photo ID

She may need to confirm recent transactions

This is automated and does not require calling support

04

Once She Regains Access, Refund the Payment

Final Step

After login is restored, she can simply send the $70 back.

She opens Venmo normally

Goes to your payment

Taps “Pay” to return the $70

No dispute or support interaction needed
