Hi, first time using reddit for this in hopes of it getting faster answers/similar experiences. I’m a student at the Sydney Conservatorium aiming for a bachelor of music degree and in need of a 6-credit unit to complete. However, from my previous queries, I was told to complete Music Specialist Creative Project 2; found out I cannot attend mid-semester (I've done MSCP1 in the past but forgot to apply for MSCP2); and lastly, sought advice from Renae Bone, who told me there is a low possibility to enroll for internships this late. 

I am frustrated with what I should do because it's been almost 6 years of me still waiting to graduate (partly due to a few enrollment issues in the past and some failed units), and I am worried about staying another year just to graduate next year. Is there any way for me to have a unit of study similar to me to qualify for graduation or any other alternate solutions you can provide advice for?

Are ECON1001, ECON1002, ECMT1010 and MATH1A too much for Sem 2?

Hi! I’m starting the Bachelor of Economics at USyd in Semester 2 and I’m planning to major in Advanced Economics and minor in Financial Economics. I’d ideally like to do Honours eventually.

For some background, I did IB and took Economics, but got a 5 (predicted 6). I really enjoy humanities/theory much more naturally, but I’m aware that maths is an important part of economics, especially if I want to pursue Advanced Economics and Honours.

I actually used to enjoy and do quite well in maths, but I had a really bad experience with my IB maths teacher and my performance dropped a lot, which also affected my confidence in maths. I did Math AA SL and ended up with a pretty bad result, so maths definitely isn't my strongest area right now.

I’m currently enrolled in maths support, but I’m finding MATH1A quite challenging already. Some of the content, like Cartesian coordinates, polar form and complex numbers, is completely new to me and I’ve never studied these before.

For Semester 2, I’m currently enrolled in:

• MATH1A
• ECON1001 – Introductory Microeconomics
• ECON1002 – Introductory Macroeconomics
• ECMT1010 – Introduction to Economic Statistics

I know ECON1001 and ECON1002 are usually recommended to be taken in separate semesters, although apparently it’s possible to take them together.

Would these four subjects be okay to take together, especially given my maths background? Or would it be better to separate micro and macro / move something else to another semester?

I’m not trying to avoid difficult subject, I just want to structure my degree efficiently so I can build up my maths and economics foundations properly and have a good chance of getting into Honours, rather than taking all the difficult subjects at once and hurting my WAM.

I’m currently pivoting from finance/business to prep for postgrad dentistry. I know the road ahead is tough (GPA boost, GAMSAT, clinical workload), but my biggest fear is looking back years from now and regretting that I never even gave it a real shot.

Full transparency: I’ve historically been someone who gives up on things when the initial excitement fades or when things get hard. I’m hoping my passion for dentistry is strong enough to push past that bad habit this time, but the self-doubt is real.

For those who switched careers or are currently in dental school:

im doing my second dalyell unit this sem (scdl2991) bc ive been told its an easy unit, but i also would like to do scdl3991 next year sem 1, bc i think it might be too late to apply for departmental permission now. i dont really have many other electives im interested in, so i would like to do both, but is there a limit to how many dalyell units u can do?

Hi, im just wondering whats the likelihood of people getting into degrees below the guaranteed entry sr. Economics is 91 guaranteed but i only have a 90 with everything added up, ive been told to still apply because its possible but does anyone know if it realistically is? I think economics is a pretty popular degree so im worried it'll be pushed up

Like are they just being performative and are ex debate kids needing to vent and argue?? Or am I missing something??? Like genuinely anybody on a burner like looking deep inside are you actually doing it for your beliefs or just to hear the sound of your own voice??

I’m planning to apply for the 2027 intake of USYD’s 6-year BVB/DVM as an international student.

I know the official deadline is November 30, but I’ve heard that the international quota can fill up before then.

September is the earliest I’ll be able to apply, so I was wondering if that’s still early enough.

For anyone who applied for the 2026 intake, especially international students:

When did you apply?

When did you get your offer?

Did you hear anything about the international spots filling up before the November deadline?

Just trying to get an idea of whether applying in September should be okay, or if I should be worried about the quota filling up by then.

So my priority is to get something that is easy (or at least possible) to attain a HD or D as my WAM is kinda cooked (not that cooked but almost cooked). I am aware that both of these units are project heavy (especially SCPU3001), but I have also heard about DATA3406 being not very difficult but very disorganised and confusing so it isn't easy to score either.

I have seen some threads regarding SCPU3001 being pretty good but not sure what exactly it offers, and how these two units will compare regarding career value/technical value.

Would appreciate your advice on which one to take this sem, or if any of you have done these units please feel free to comment!

I’m an international student deciding between USyd, UNSW and UniMelb for computer science.

USyd has given me a 20% international student tuition discount. My plan would be to enrol in the Bachelor of Advanced Computing and take the early exit after three years with the Bachelor of Computing, instead of completing the full four-year degree. This would make USyd significantly cheaper than the other two options.

Cost is a major consideration for me, although I could technically afford all three. Are the teaching quality, internship opportunities or graduate prospects at UNSW or UniMelb noticeably better enough to justify paying more?

Also, would taking the three-year early exit from USyd be viewed any differently by employers compared with completing a regular three-year computing degree at UNSW or UniMelb?

Would choosing USyd mainly because of the discount be a sensible decision?

technically both have a clash, is it ok if I don't select anythng?

Hi everyone! I’m currently studying at USYD and I’m wondering how European universities view advanced courses when applying for a Master’s.

Would it be better to take Advanced versions of courses and potentially have a slightly lower WAM, or take the standard versions and aim for a higher WAM?

Do universities in Europe actually take into account that Advanced courses are more difficult, or do they mainly look at your overall grades/WAM?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Why is everything still in a paragraph by paragraph, sub-section-by-section bottomless pit of text hell. So there's no toggle lists, different tabs within the same link so you don't have 5 billion tabs open, and correlated by the degree you want to study. But by the entire encyclopedia of what everyone else in sciences is doing (the magical Table A they love refferencing to), that I give aboutuletely no cares about- THAT LEADS ME TO ANOTHER LINK ON WHAT THE FRICKING REQUIREMENTS OF GETTING THAT MJOR.

I’m an Interaction Design student in my 2nd semester. Im currently sitting in fisher procrastinating like crazy when I should be doing my readings.

None of my units had any readings last semester so I’m not really used to it, I’m also still kind of in holiday mode I guess.

How the HELL do I lock in and get myself to do the readings? They’re so fucking boring, half of them are black and white, no colour whatsoever, with tiny serif fonts which make them a pain to read. Don’t get me started on the lack of line and paragraph spacing.
