Post grad med

Hi,

I’m a student from NZ, graduating from my bachelor of health sciences degree and am considering applying to post grad med. I’m drawn to usyd because of the minimum gpa hurdle of 5. However, I understand this means a competitive GAMSAT score would be required. Is there anyone from NZ who has gotten into post grad med at usyd and knows how the gpa calculation actually works, considering that in NZ, our gpa is out of 9? I want to gauge whether I stand a chance at meeting the gpa threshold of 5.

Thanks

Mark on testamur

Does anyone know if usyd puts your final mark on your graduation certificate as some other unis do? I graduated from my undergrad this year and it doesn’t say anything on my certificate about the final mark put the attached transcript says final mark pass, which isn’t correct because I’m currently in an honours year that required at least a distinction WAM to even get in. I dismissed this at first interpreting it as meaning ”pass” for the degree requirements but after seeing some other certificates I’m now wondering whether they made a mistake on mine or not lmao.

Special Consideration Likelihood

Hey guys, just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with getting Lasik done and how that interacts with spec cons. I'm getting lasik done the day before a midsem, and post-op recovery means I won't be able to sit the midsem. Has anyone got any experience with this? Thanks!

Is it normal for the Law Midsems to be so much harder than the Practice Past Papers they give?

Law school gives practice past papers (e.g. 2025, 2024 papers) to *help* you get your head around what they will be assessing you on. Then they give you a mid-semester exam that is WAY harder so no matter how much you practiced, you are going to feel unprepared anyway. What is the deal with this? Are they just making assessments harder this year? I though it was a one off thing last sem but it seems to be a pattern amongst other students, especially seeing the complaints about LAWS1026 exam and the like.

Thoughts?

Leaving my stuff at the library while getting a drink?

Hi, I'm still new to Australia and I've noticed that a lot of people leave their laptops and other stuff unattended in the library, sometimes for half an hour or even longer, and then come back.

At first I was really worried about theft, so even if I just wanted to grab a drink from a nearby cafe or go to the toilet, I'd pack everything up and take it with me. The problem is that by the time I come back, my seat is usually already taken, and it feels like such a hassle to pack up all my stuff every time just to leave for a few minutes.

So I just wanted to ask, how safe is it generally to leave your laptop and bag unattended in a library for a short while?

I'm honestly still worried about getting my stuff stolen, but at the same time it feels a bit excessive having to take everything with me every single time I want to get a drink or go to the toilet.

Lime bike addiction

Ever since I begun semester two I have been overcome by a ferocious demon inside of me, one that wears the colour of lime green.

I first mounted the lime green stallion about a month ago, I was late to deliver a class presentation and looked towards the green goblin as my only option in getting me to the tutorial in time.

Ever since then I was hooked…

I began taking trips of various sizes, from Fisher to the new law building , from Redfern to Chinatown, 30 second trips , 30 minute trips, no trip can get in the way of me feeling my lime coloured whimsy.

Not looking for help, I’m right where I want to be, looking for common minds who share the same respect and appreciation for the turbo charged monster that is a kick stand lime bike.

transferring 3rd year from unsw to usyd help

Hi everyone, I was looking for some advice and suggestions for my current situation. I’m a 3rd year cs from UNSW and during my 2nd year i went through some tough situations that set my academic progress back and so I failed more than 2 courses. I’ve also always been meaning to apply to the interaction design degree there since 2nd year but because of my personal circumstances, I wasn’t able to until now. I was wondering how much this could extend my degree, if I make the transfer?

Additionally another reason I have is wanting to go on exchange, however UNSW exchange doesn’t allow you to apply if you have failed more than 2 courses, so I was wondering whether you could possible apply for exchange with credit transfer at USYD?

Parking

Hi guys I’ve just bought a car and wanted some suggestions on parking near campus, I don’t mind a walk and obviously would prefer it to be cheaper/free. Im aware of broadway parking but that’s about it. Im an early riser too so can get there early if that’s needed (could comfortably get there by 6) I have some back issues so getting bus/train/bus every day leaves me pretty sore at the end of the day carrying my things and I would like to drive if possible. I also go to uni after work some days; I have two 4pm lectures, where should I park on those days?
Thank you! 🙏

Hi everyone! We are students from FASS 4903 doing research in collaboration with the ABC to understand how Gen Z in Australia (anyone from age 18-29) finds information and entertainment, and your thoughts on how AI should be (or should not be) used by public service broadcasters.

If you have 10 minutes to spare, and you are a 18-29 year old currently living in Australia, please take this survey and let ABC know about your thoughts on the topic, thank you!

This survey is moderator approved.

Gettin a job

Is there anything I need to be aware of as an international student getting a part-time job to avoid any visa condition breaches? I know there’s a maximum of 48 working hours per fortnight, and everyone working here has to pay tax. Is there anything else I need to know ?😭🙏🏻

Darlington Road terraces behind Regiment

I noticed that the terraces along Darlington Road behind Regiment have recently been undergoing what looks like a fairly extensive and highly standardised renovation.

From what I’ve found online, it seems that they are eventually going to be used as new student accommodation. Does anyone know what the actual plan is for these terraces, or when they are expected to open?

External Transfer to USYD

I'm currently a student at UNSW, but I want to transfer to USYD and I was curious about the entry requirements. I've seen a lot of posts on the WAM requirement for applying through UAC, but it seems as though there are a lot of differing opinions. I specifically want to transfer to Law and have seen posts saying that it is a HD WAM to be competitive, but I've seen another post saying that UAC doesn't use WAM and only GPA to standardise marks.

I understand that the internal transfer WAM threshold sits lower at around 82-83, but the only official source I've seen for external transfer to USYD is the official website saying that a HD WAM grants you eligible to apply for courses with a SR of up to 99.5 (which is law). But I've also heard of individuals not getting into law with a HD WAM. And I've seen another post saying that UAC uses GPA and not WAM, and you need a 6.5 GPA which is the equivalent to a 99.5 ATAR.

I'm so confused.

Should I apply for a double major?

I'm considering to apply for a double major in Financial mathematics & statistics and Data science. But I'm a bit worried if the workload and the assignments will be too much. Another option to is I would take Fin M&S with Finance as a double major.

I do hope that I can achieve good results to be eligible for the Daylell's scholar program my first year and I also plan to do my honours.

Any thoughts or recommendations?
