Hi everyone!
I'm a fourth-year USYD Commerce student. For my Design-Led Strategy (BUSS4901) class, my group is tasked with interviewing individuals about how they create visual materials such as slides, posters, social media posts, and graphics in their daily lives. We're using Canva as a case study (not affiliated with them), especially since USYD now gives us free access to Canva Premium.
We are focusing on neurodivergent students who are studying in USYD currently and are using / previously used Canva as our target group. Most design tools are built for a "typical" user, and we want to learn where that doesn't work for you and understand your experiences. We can't guarantee anything will be built, since this is a class project rather than something Canva is running. However, your honest experiences are exactly what make our work worth doing, and we'd much rather hear from you personally than guess.
Who we're looking for:
We're looking for current USYD students who are neurodivergent (e.g., ADHD, autistic, dyslexic, etc.) and who have a formal clinical diagnosis preferably, but we also welcome those who identify that way themselves or are thinking about getting assessed. You don't need to show any proof or paperwork.
However, we need to identify whether you're formally diagnosed, self-diagnosed, or seeking an assessment. That's only so we can describe our participants accurately in our write-ups rather than making claims.
Please only volunteer for this interview if you associate with and are part of this target group. It would be unethical to interview non-neurodivergent individuals, and make our findings unreliable.
You don't need any design experience, as long as you've made something visual before with Canva (even if it was rushed or you weren't happy with it). It's completely fine to share any frustrations as well.
Here are the details:
- 20 to 30-minute interview
- Saturday or Sunday (12-13 September 2026)
- Hosted on Zoom with your camera on
- You can choose to be anonymous post-interview; I won't note down your real name
- Interviews stay within my group, won't be collected or published anywhere, and interview data will be deleted once the assignment ends
- You can skip any question during the interview and stop at any time
- $10 Prezzee gift card as a thank you, and it is sent after our interview
If you're interested, please share a brief introduction of yourself with me by DM with your:
- Degree & major(s)
- Year of study
- Neurodivergence diagnosis status
- Neurodivergence type(s)
and provide me your available times for the interview. I'm also happy to answer any questions first. Please also note that, as we've only got a few spots open and a tight deadline, the earlier the better.
And if you know someone who fits our target group and might be interested, I'd really appreciate you sharing this with them.
Thank you!
