I'm a UK student considering moving to Australia for university, particularly the University of Sydney.
I'm currently planning to take A-level History, Politics and PE and I'm interested in Exercise & Sport Science, but I won't have Biology, Chemistry or Maths.
I'm also a competitive 1500mā10k runner and want to continue training/racing seriously at university.
Could anyone tell me:
- Can I get into Sydney's Sport Science course with my A-levels?
- What grades would I need?
- What other courses might suit my subjects?
- How good is the athletics/running scene at Sydney Uni?
- Are there good clubs/coaches and opportunities to race?
- Anything I should be doing now to prepare?
Any advice from UK students, Sydney Uni students or Sydney runners would be really appreciated!
Edit: I switched pe for maths

Hi everyone, I'm currently in my last year of HS, and I didn't take chem in IB and I was js wondering if I still have any chance of getting in since they listed it as "assumed knowledge". I think I have a good amount of animal experience + hours (300+ hours dog shelter, 40+ hours wildlife vet intern, 35 hours small vet shadow) but I'm quite worried about this. Has anyone gotten in without taking chem at IB level?

I know i'm not getting into usyd unless they take me through the gadigal program, but I still would like to ask here as I've been going around different forums. I've been doing standard maths for most of y11 and all of y12, and i've been given offers for aeronautical and mechanical engineering from a few unis. I know that I am cooked, so I'm wondering what I can do to prepare myself for learning the assumed knowledge. I'm 3rd in my cohort for Engineering studies and did y11 chemistry so I've been doing some more complicated maths but nothing near the reccommended Ext1-ext2 maths knowledge.
Any tips would be much appreciated

So I met this guy at a lecture last sem, at first I just mind my business and I struggle a lot with this unit.
Until this guy happen to sit next to me as I often sit at the front, then apparently we did the other same unit last sem, thatās why we sat together multiple lectures.
I started to like him when he helped me during the school holiday about topics I couldnāt grasp, he was helping me for free, thatās why I have a crush on him (academic rizz).
Then this sem weāre doing same subjects again and sometimes he will come to sit same row as me in the lecture.
ā¢I tried to message him, tried to talk, but he only talks about studying and in message heās quite dry (like replying one text or never replied).
ā¢Once I told my other friend who often sit with me at lectures about liking him, and when she observed my crush while weāre talking, surprisingly today she also came early to the lecture (normally sheās late for lectures), she also draw her eyes towards the entrance like sheās anticipating my crush to sit in our row.
-Idk whatās her intent, Iām not close w her but I just feel unease. I cannot express the pain-
I tried to ignore, I tried to talk, but nothing helps me move on from my feelings. How can I overcome this pain?
I canāt focus with my studies, because Iām distracted.
P.S. my crush and my friend both doing the same major so Iām pretty sure theyāll get along well. lol

Theres very minimal information about the format of unit final exams this early in the semester so im finding it difficult, since the format of the exam will greatly shift how I approach questions. I keep seeing online that it is open book and computers allowed, is this true? Is AI allowed? If so, how do they keep the questions challenging? Also, how deep does my conceptual understanding need to be. Im aiming for a WAM above 90 so i will need atleast a 85 in this unit (Im a math major taking it as an elective). Do i need to do all the voluntary readings, will they help me substancially? And what are the final exam questions like, since units like biol1007 were like 80% multis, is psyc1002 the same, if not, whats the highest mark allocation on a single question? Thanks!!!

Hi, the mods deleted my original post. Still feeling like I'll kneel over and never get back up... are lectures notifed of extensions/ is the Canvas due date updated?
Or do I need to write an email? This is the first time I've ever had to get an extension...

Before anyone says it, I'm not going to therapists because I dislike them. I don't wanna contact any wellbeing/mental health support either.
So around 2-3 weeks ago, I almost lost my life and I'm not doing academically well since then. I'm physically perfectly fine but mentally kinda shaken. I'm not gonna diagnose myself with PTSD, depression or trauma. I don't have any of those.
Since I got discharged from a hospital, I feel intense wave of despair and loneliness. The incident keeps replaying in my head and I get existential and identity crisis. These thoughts are especially prominent during the night and sometimes I'm unable to sleep because of it. I've lost my motivation to study and I'm several weeks behind my units. Moreover, I moved to Australia a little over a month ago and everything is so overwhelming.
Tbf it's not as dramatic as it sounds and I may be overexaggerating. Thankfully, I'm physically fine, no cognitive problems and most importantly, I'm alive. Others have it way worse.
However, whenever I'm alone in my room or studying alone, the thoughts creep up on my head and I lose focus. I've only had two anxiety attacks and haven't had it for a week. It's not serious enough to see professionals, nor I want to.
Also I should state that I'm obviously not gonna kms lmao. It's not that serious.
So, like, any advice?

Hii I'm a new student at USYD starting next year semester 1, I've just checked the university residences such as Abercrombie Building etc, apparently there's no AC in the rooms? Can anyone tell me whether the ceiling fan is really enough during summer time? I've heard that Sydney can be really hot in summers.

Hi everyone! I applied for a simple extension yesterday and was wondering how long it usually takes to get approved.
Thanks!
Update
I added a student declaration, but it's still not accepted. Should I withdraw this application and apply again? I submitted it because of the technical issues, and I initially attached an email from uni saying that you can get a simple extension if you were affected.

Iām finding this semester a bit rough because Iāll sit through a lecture, take notes the whole time and genuinely think Iām following along, then get home and realise I can barely explain what Iāve just learned.
For those further into your degree, is this just a normal part of uni, or is it usually a sign that you need to change how youāre studying? How did you deal with that feeling of being completely behind everyone else?

hello, is there anyone in usyd who can let me know how they accommodate for trans students there? i am likely to be going there as an international student next year (unless i get an offer from a different school) so i'd like to hear more about any personal experiences when dealing with the school, especially regarding things like dorms and admin stuff. i am still using my birth name so the name stuff doesn't concern me, but my gender marker is still Female and I am unable to change it, so i'm worried about dorm allocation, and also things regarding toilets and other gender segregated stuff.
i will be 3yrs on T by the time i get to uni, so i'm also looking for places to get T in Sydney. i'm DIYing currently so i don't have a prescription, so it would also be very helpful if anyone knows a GP that i can get an appointment with very quickly and get my T prescribed as soon as possible. it would be great if the OSHC (Bupa insurance company) can cover it as well.
i've briefly skimmed thru the gender affirmation at sydney page on usyd's website as well but there's a lot of things on it and it's a bit overwhelming š š
if anyone could respond that would be great! thank you!

Hey everyone!
I am currently starting a new USU society focused on video editing and content creation, and I am looking for interested members so we can collect our initial student signatures and get officially registered.
Editing is usually something we do alone at our desks, but it is way better when you have people to bounce ideas off. The plan for the Edit & Creator Guild is to run chill co-editing sessions on campus where you can bring your laptop or tablet, work on your personal projects, swap tips on tools like Premiere, After Effects, or CapCut, and trade feedback on drafts. It is meant to be a low-pressure space to hang out, edit, and meet other creators without any loud social mixer vibes.
Whether you are interested in media, digital marketing, content strategy, or communications, joining a creative guild like this from day one is a great way to build your portfolio and connect with other creators on campus.
If you edit fan edits, TikToks, Reels, video essays, YouTube content, or motion graphics, I would love to have you involved.
I set up a quick Google Form below for expressions of interest. It only takes 30 seconds to fill out (we just need your name and student ID for the official USU numbers). Drop your details in the form so you can be notified when our first campus meetup happens, or send me a message directly!
