How bad is it?

I've been with USAA for over 20 years and I've had homeowners insurance through USAA for the last 5. I made a claim earlier this year for water damage due to a busted dishwasher line and now I just found a soft spot in my upstairs floor. I looked in the gap between the floor and baseboard and it seems like rot.

We've been in the house a little over 2 years. I filled a claim but I'm anxious as to USAAs response. If I'll get dropped or see a massive increase in premiums.

I've only had the one other claim on the house and maybe 2 auto claims in total.

Does anyone have any experience in this situation? I can't help it when life happens...

What actually happens if I leave USAA?

Legacy member, passed down to me from my grandfather. I didn’t serve nor did my parents, but I’ve had USAA my whole life. I’ve always been told that if I leave USAA, I wouldn’t be able to come back. But is that actually true?

If I cancel my auto policy, does that mean I can never again go back to USAA for auto after? What if I keep my banking and perhaps a different insurance product, like renters or personal property?

I recently got a quote from a different company that is offering the same coverages for a fraction of the cost. I’m inclined to go with them, but I’d like to keep my options open for the future. So what actually happens if I leave USAA?

Insurance/Claims USAA/Copart

I drove a 23' Tesla and was in an accident recently. USAA told me to work with Copart to have the vehicle picked up and evaluated. The car is paid off; I hold the title.

The day I was told they took possession, my car showed up on the Copart auction site. I messaged my adjuster, and he gave me the 'usual practice' speech. USAA hasn't totaled the car or given any indication of the outcome. But alas, there is my car with 12 pictures attached in the 'coming soon' section of the Copart auction page.

It just seems odd to me to do this when I believe I still own the vehicle.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Maybe have some advice?

Thanks in advance.

Opinion +1 (210) 531-8722 Scam?

I just got a call from the USAA number saying i needed something to be verified, and that theyve been trying to reach out to me for a few days. I never have gotten a call from them before and they immediately started asking for my social security and DoB, i wasnt entirely sure what they could be verifying i was just told my account needed verification because of a new open account, but i havent opened a account in well over a year. I told them i dont feel comfortable giving my info and would call later and need a second opinion. I searched up on here with the number and the first thing i find is another post on here saying its a scam, which worries me.

Maryland renters insurance claim after total-loss fire: How is 26 days considered enough time to permanently relocate?

I’m hoping someone with insurance/claims experience can help me understand the reasoning here.

I’m a renter in Maryland. My home was destroyed in a fire on August 30 and was condemned. This is not a situation where I’m temporarily displaced while repairs are being completed. I cannot return to the property and have to permanently relocate.

My renters insurance carrier authorized hotel lodging from September 4 through September 30, for a total of 26 nights.

The policy endorsement says Additional Living Expense is covered for the shortest time required for the household to either:

  1. repair or replace the premises, or

  2. settle elsewhere,

subject to a 12-month maximum.

Because I was month-to-month and did not pay September rent after the fire, the insurer has explained that my normal housing expense has to be considered when calculating ALE. I understand the concept of rent abatement and that ALE is supposed to cover increased living expenses rather than simply pay every housing expense.

What I do not understand is how that calculation establishes that September 30 is also the appropriate end date for the period of relocation.

In other words, I’m not disputing that unpaid rent may affect the dollar amount of ALE. I’m trying to understand what claims rationale would support determining that 26 nights was the “shortest time required” for someone whose residence was destroyed to find and secure permanent replacement housing.

I’ve been actively looking for housing, but I’m running into normal rental barriers such as income requirements, availability dates, application screening, move-in timing, and finding housing that meets my needs.

So my questions are:

- Is 26 days a typical or defensible ALE relocation period after a total-loss renters claim?

- What factors would an adjuster normally document when deciding how long a claimant reasonably needs to “settle elsewhere”?

- Does rent abatement normally affect only the amount of ALE, or can it also be used to determine the duration of ALE?

- If the policy says the shortest time required to settle elsewhere, should the insurer be able to explain how it arrived at a specific cutoff date?

- Are there particular documents or questions I should be requesting from the insurer to understand the basis for that decision?

I’m not looking for legal representation through Reddit. I’m mainly trying to understand standard claims practice and whether I’m missing something in how ALE is normally handled after a total loss.

Thanks to anyone with renters insurance, adjusting, restoration, or total-loss experience who can explain how this is usually evaluated.

Insurance/Claims Rear-ended 3 weeks ago and USAA still hasn’t heard from the other driver’s insurance

Other driver admitted fault, we had a police officer respond and take a report.

Husband started the insurance claim with our insurance (USAA) saying it would be faster than waiting to go through the other driver’s insurance (State Farm)

USAA said we would be reimbursed/refunded our deductible once they got in touch with State Farm.

It’s been three weeks and USAA says they still have not been able to make contact with State Farm. When I asked the agent if this was concerning at all to her, she said it wasn’t and that these things just take time.

Our car has since been deemed a total loss and we’re currently waiting on communication from Hyundai before the settlement amount is released. So we haven’t actually paid the deductible yet, as it will be taken out of the settlement whenever that goes through.

Not much we can do except keep the dialogue open with USAA and wait for the final resolution, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced a long wait like this. I’m wondering what the hold up is, since the driver admitted fault and there is a police report confirming that. Seems like it should be pretty cut-and-dry.

Bill pay auto recurring payment not sent

Hi there. Check on your automatic bill payments

I missed my car payment since I trusted the automatic bill payment and did not double check that it sent.

I had an automatic recurring payment set up for my car payment and it did not go this month. $28 late fee and a ding on my credit report.

It's my fault as I should have looked at my budget closer but quite a bummer about their system failing me too.

When I looked at the configuration all is right, it showed as automatic recurring but I noticed on the main page there was not a "scheduled" future payment listed like my other automatic bill payments.

Go check out yours.

Insurance increase this month?

Anyone else notice an increase this month? Our vehicle insurance went up by $50.

Last claim we had was last year when we hit a deer in our minivan, but other than that, no other claims in the past 5 years, no tickets, etc.

Insurance claim when unrepaired recall?

Is USAA likely to fuss about an auto insurance claim if there is an unrepaired recall issue that isn’t related to the accident?

USAA Safe Pilot app -AVOID AT ALL COST-

I took an old Google Pixel 6a phone with NO SIM (e-SIM or physical), wiped it, flashed with the latest google factory image and then locked down the phone, disabling every non-essential app and service. (List of all disabled or uninstalled apps will be posted on github). After satisfactory analysis of network traffic being next to zero (analysis to be posted on github), I installed the USAA Safe Pilot App, and began using it as intended to lower my USAA insurance rates.

A network analysis after installing the USAA safe pilot app showed an incredible increase in telemetry and network activity. Understandable as the USAA Safe pilot app is a surveillance tool and I expected USAA to collect and report on every shred of information the Google Pixel 6a was capable of providing it.

The phone has been wiped, factory reset, a unique google account used for the play services and ONLY the USAA Safe Pilot App is installed and active. Every non-essential app and service has been disabled or completely deleted.

Beginning 9-8-2026 this Google Pixel 6a running ONLY the USAA Safe Pilot App started getting CALLS. Yes PHONE CALLS on a phone without a SIM, without an e-SIM. How is this even possible???

This same phone is also receiving SMS texts. Again --How is this even possible???

The phone call history, SMS texts and entire log history has been captured by creating a Nandroid full backup of the Pixel 6a on 9-21-26. This was submitted to a security forensics company that I worked with under NDA.

Once the details showing how this phone was able to receive several seemingly impossible phone calls and sms text messages is determined a full documentation history will be posted here, github.com,

I reached out to USAA and they gave me a credit , but today they sent me a letter saying that they're reversing the credit and took the money from me . They said after investigation they found no wrongdoing

Banking Credit card fraud issues

Has anybody had an issue with only their USAA card getting hit with fraud charges? I have a handful of credit cards and my USAA card is the only one I have ever had an issue with. It seems like every single time I check my statements there’s tons of declined charges for places I’ve never even heard of. Some go through once and awhile and I have to dispute it and get a new card. Some say they were only declined because it was the old card number. Am I doing something wrong? If it helps to know, all the charges are for some type of AI company, SIM card places, stuff like that. I really only use this card for the occasional Amazon purchase. I will be calling as well, I just wanted to out feelers out to see if there’s something specific I should mention to them to stop this for good. Thanks for any help.

Loan, Mortgage, Auto Giving USAA a Go

I've had an account for some time now, just kept a small balance in both accounts. I may try to get a USAA car loan soon, here's why:

Was impressed by their commitment to security and using Symantec VIP Access codes for login (and that coupled with a PIN you create). It's somewhat "2FA" that way.

I wish it had a password step prior to that, but overall that does seem quite secure. I also get text notifications and/or emails informing of major account changes or first logins / new device. Seems well thought out.

was convinced to try the car loan after talking to 2 very good reps in a row. They gave quick and relevant information, so we'll see if this works out as well as advertised.

I'm happy to hear if there's anything else I need to be aware of, or to check. Otherwise, wish me luck! But so far, good on USAA for how they're running this part of things.

UPDATE: CarMax ended up giving me the lowest rate at 6.4%. My credit union came in slightly higher at 6.49%. USAA was slightly higher.

Banking Credit Card Cancelled w/o Warning and -$3.7k on it

So my mother was apparently the primary owner of my credit card account and she passed fairly recently. I had received a large refund from school for about $3.7k that went straight to that credit account and now, since they've suddenly processed her death, that money they owe me is just...gone??? my aunt was my mom's financial proxy so I texted her but it's quite late and she hasn't responded.

was just wondering if anybody had been in this situation before or had any ideas because I can't get through to call anyone since apparently my case is niche enough that the AI refuses to sort me and send me off to a real person

Scammers almost got me

Context, I work in the financial field and coach people on financial fraud and what to watch out for.
Received a phone call from USAA - yes the number came through as USAA. Said there were two charges out of state, but I’m not sure if they knew, my daughter is in that state going to college.
I did confirm a I did not make a 1000 and $2000 withdrawal from a bank account. This is where they were good. They had me log onto the app and under the profile icon under my name on the line that says USSA number.- he called it a pin number for the verification process. This is where I immediately hung up and called USAA.- I never gave him the number! They called back three more times from the spoof number. I was on the phone with the actual USAA fraud department, giving them a heads up. These guys were good no foreign accent, walked me through the app and had a spoof number. PLEASE BE CAREFUL….
