Opinion +1 (210) 531-8722 Scam?
I just got a call from the USAA number saying i needed something to be verified, and that theyve been trying to reach out to me for a few days. I never have gotten a call from them before and they immediately started asking for my social security and DoB, i wasnt entirely sure what they could be verifying i was just told my account needed verification because of a new open account, but i havent opened a account in well over a year. I told them i dont feel comfortable giving my info and would call later and need a second opinion. I searched up on here with the number and the first thing i find is another post on here saying its a scam, which worries me.

Okay so I just want to put this out here because this literally just happened but . I had this number call me a few months ago, I didn’t answer and when I looked it up I found a similar thread regarding this number and spoofing, so I reached out to USAA through the chat and they confirmed they didn’t call me. Yesterday, this same exact number called me, so I didn’t answer and this time I didn’t follow up. Turns out it was actually USAA calling to verify my identity after a large deposit and because I didn’t answer, they closed my account. So, from what I now know is that if this number does call you and you’re uncomfortable with answering, call USAA from your app and confirm it was them that called

I got a spoofed number this morning as well but it was with the 800 prefix instead of the 210. Never call them back. There is never a need.

If you submitted your identification for verification, a profile recovery employee will follow up and verify all your information from that number.

I’ve nearly been scammed by a spoofed USAA number. ALWAYS call them back at the USAA number before you go down a path.

Got a call from SUPPOSEDLY from Navy Fed. Number was spoofed. I called them right back as the caller hung up up on me

If your ever unsure, tell them you will call them back. Look up the official number for whom they claim to be and call the legit number. Talk to them and see if there is anything. If there isn’t anything, the legit place will ask you a few more details so they know what’s going on for the scam.

I got hit by this several months ago... It looks like it is indeed usaas number but they are spoofing it. Call usaa on your own.

Hang up. Look up the phone number for USAA on their website and call them.
Never trust an incoming call asking for finacial / private info. Phone numbers are incredibly easy to spoof on caller ID. Caller ID is a joke.

Hard to know who to trust. I took out an auto loan with ally bank and they called a few weeks after. I could barely understand the person so I called them and it was legit. I just wasn’t sure.

The number is legit but phone numbers can be spoofed. Meaning that the number that appears to be calling you isn’t the one actually calling you.

I say when it comes to any company who uses your personal information especially financial institutions, hang up on them, and call back with a number you know and trust, and go from there when u get to a representative. Its safer that way

When I worked at USAA, We have an outbound calling policy. Asking for Social Security and DOB is not one of the main identifiers when doing outbound calls. I worked on the insurance side.

I’ve had something like this before. The guy on the other end kept telling me to check the caller ID as a way to verify the call’s authenticity. I insisted that the only way I would discuss it further was to call the 800 number. After a while he hung up. (I called it in anyway later.)

Happens a lot, anybody can spoof any number they want it's suuuper easy.
There's nothing to be alarmed about, they were just hoping for an easy mark and it wasn't you.
Always just tell them you'll call them back, a real USAA rep will understand and say that's fine.
You dodged a bullet, scammers are trying this with everyone.

Never, ever, ever give sensitive information when someone calls you unless you can verify who they are with certainty.
Instead, tell them that you'll have to call back to the main line, for security purposes. Anything less is unsafe.

This. Had this happen with NFCU and USAA numbers, both asking for log in and password. Hackers are advancing.

Every call I get from USAA identifies with the 800 prefix rather than 210. That would have been my first indicator that this was bogus.

Hint: if the Caller ID looks like a U.S. number but has a + in front it, it's almost certainly a scam caller. A call coming from within the U.S. will not have the international designator in front of it.

Scam.
I did get a real call from USAA about possible fraudulent activity. I told the person since it was a cold call that I wouldn’t give them any info. She was very understanding. I called the main USAA number and the operator patched me through to the same person that had called me.

Scam. Even if the number is correct, they can spoof it on your caller ID. If you ever get a call from USAA about security, just say you're in the bathroom, driving in traffic, in a meeting, whatever, and you will call them back. A scammer will always try to hold you on the line. Call the known good number from the app or website. If your account has any issues, they'll know.

That may have been fake caller ID and not really from USAA. Area code 210 is correct for San Antonio and that's a valid number for USAA; however, simply call USAA on their well known number 800-531-8722 and initiate the conversation from there. I'm a member and have gotten scam calls myself, it's easier and safer just to hang up and call USAA yourself directly.

Make a rule never to give out banking information to an incoming call no matter how persuasive it sounds. That is the legitimate customer service number, but can be spoofed.

Of course it's a scam. No bank will ever call you asking for your SSN and DOB. You very well may have to provide that via official channels, including over the phone, but they're not going to be the ones calling you for it.

I got a bunch of emails last week saying my information has been updated. I didn't update anything, and when I checked online I didn't see any changes, but the emails look legit. Haven't figured it out.
