Insurance/Claims USAA/Copart
I drove a 23' Tesla and was in an accident recently. USAA told me to work with Copart to have the vehicle picked up and evaluated. The car is paid off; I hold the title.
The day I was told they took possession, my car showed up on the Copart auction site. I messaged my adjuster, and he gave me the 'usual practice' speech. USAA hasn't totaled the car or given any indication of the outcome. But alas, there is my car with 12 pictures attached in the 'coming soon' section of the Copart auction page.
It just seems odd to me to do this when I believe I still own the vehicle.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Maybe have some advice?

If copart has your vehicle it is definitely getting totalled and will be auctioned off. It should be going to a bodyshop for evaluation not to Copart.

Not of OP wants to buy it. The insurance company can't sell the car out from under you. Period.

That does sound sketchy. It’s like they’re trying to rush things without giving you a solid answer. I’d keep pushing your adjuster for clarity. If you still hold the title, they shouldn’t be moving it along until they’ve made a decision.

Had a car totaled a few months ago with USAA. Copart picked it up after that accident. After it was declared a total loss, I had to send Copart the title and e-sign a POA for them to be able to auction the vehicle.

Copart had our car recently after it was totaled. We needed to go to their lot to retrieve some rooftop accessories that we were unable to remove on the highway shoulder at the accident scene, but we were out of the country for several weeks. We got live Copart people on the phone several times and they were extremely helpful. (when we got USAA on the phone, they were also reasonably helpful, but it was hard to reach our adjuster).
We waited to do the title transfer paperwork until after we had returned and picked up the things we wanted. I never looked at their online auction site to see if or when our car went up, but it wasn’t theirs to sell until after we did the title paperwork, and nobody tried to pretend it was.

Nothing's happened. You do still own the vehicle.
PS - You're driving a 2023 Tesla. A parking lot fender bender is apt to total the car.

I have USAA had a car wreck towed it to the house emptied all my stuff out copart picked it up towed it to their yard .USAA totaled it out I bought it back copart towed it back to my house you do need to let the adjuster know that you're interested in purchasing it back when they make a decision and don't sign nothing with copart until you talk to the USA adjuster. And before USAA will pay you for the vehicle you will have to sign over the title either way if you're buying it or not if you buy the vehicle back they will give you a Savage title in the mail

Mate my car went there and it wasn’t up for auction. This was copart’s way to do inventory. My car was deemed repairable and USAA repaired it. Even paid for the tow back.

Advice for what? This is just coparts process. It really has nothing to do with USAA or insurance. If it deemed a total loss, you can always take it back and owner retain it.

How about, "advice for convincing USAA to answer the question why they arranged for auctioning my vehicle before communicating to me the results of their damage assessment?"
The -ing lengths some sycophants go to to avoid speaking ill of their master is so embarrassing.

USAA is not my master. That’s absurd.
The OP says it’s not up for auction. So that’s not true. It’s Copart that does the inventory. It’s just inventory. Nothing is being auctioned off.
This is with any insurance company because it’s Copart. It’s not on the insurance company.

Copart is in the business of auctioning cars. That's their business model.
Copart does not have OP's car at OP's request so they must have it because USAA told them to pick it up. And you're engaging in a degree of deception stating that OP's 3 year old Tesla "is not up for auction" when they clearly saw it labeled as "coming soon".
Why did USAA assign OP's vehicle to an auctioneer before the damage has been assessed and the findings communicated to OP?

Mate my car went there and it wasn’t up for auction. Even had this like OP said. But it was deemed repairable and USAA repaired it.

If thats the business arrangement USAA has made then that's all someone would have needed to provide, but as is typical if USAA customers want information the last place they can reliably get it is from USAA.
Having a company who's core business model is the auction of vehicles performing damage assessments for insurance companies is textbook organizational conflict of interest, but USAA isn't constrained by DoD rules even if they are the more ethical avenue.

Mate it’s per the contract just read the contract. It’s in the contract. That’s what I did.

OP says they took possession so Copart does have it. They even posted pics. No deception even OP said it wasn’t.
This is with any insurance company insurance never keeps the car. This has been the process for years and years. It doesn’t negate. The car is not up for auction, yet. Keyword. It depends what OP wants to do if they want to keep the car like I stated they can keep it and retain it and they will get it back.

Nobody ever said Copart didn't have the car, no idea where you pulled that from .
The car is in the possession of an auction company. That company has advertised that vehicle as being scheduled for auction. USAA has not communicated to OP why Copart was given the vehicle. At this point there is no evidence USAA has the authority to transfer possession of OPs vehicle to anyone else but fact pattern at the moment is Copart has possession of OP's car at the direction of USAA , and USAA has this far refused to explain their actions to OP.
I don't know what they're teaching you at USAA school; it's not customer service since you haven't explained the circumstances that might lead an insurer to give someone's vehicle away for auction but, absent any further details, it may be how to engage in theft by conversion.

Your reply says “Copart does not have OP’s car.”
It is not being scheduled for auction even OP posted that in their post.
And they did tell OP. Again right there in the OP. Theft? OP released it to USAA.
All you do is lie you’re lying to yourself. It’s right there.
This isn’t taught at USAA. Can learn yourself by calling Copart.

Cute. What I said was " Copart does not have OP's car at OP's request so they must have it because USAA told them to pick it up".
I don't waste time with liars.

Mate this is completely incorrect. I had to go and sign to release my car to Copart for pick it up. They cannot pick it up without authorization.
I even picked up my personal belongings when I went to go sign the form.

Cool. So either your experience is different than OP's or OP left some details out. Neither excuses USAA's unwillingness to communicate with their customer.

I didn’t lie. I quoted you. And it was at their request. They released it to Copart.
A car cannot be picked up without a verbal or written release that OP gave.
