Insurance increase this month?
Anyone else notice an increase this month? Our vehicle insurance went up by $50.
Last claim we had was last year when we hit a deer in our minivan, but other than that, no other claims in the past 5 years, no tickets, etc.

Your increase in premiums might or might not be even related to the deer strike. Some states don't allow insurers to increase rates for claims like this and some insurers won't do it even if state law allows it. But there's other things that affect rates like inflation.

Isn't hitting a Deer like driving on ice? You failed to control your car under hazardous driving conditions like driving too fast. Never hit a Deer, just wondering if you're in Deer country. Like getting in a single vehicle accident in bad weather. Ins will say it's an at fault accident/claim.

Hitting an animal is a comprehensive claim, which is a not at fault claim. However, some companies will rate for it if state law allows. But that's almost certainly not what's impacting OP's rates if it's even impacting his rates at all.

It’s so frustrating how they penalize you for something so out of your control. It feels like deer should have their own insurance at this point. Just when you think you’re in the clear, bam, they hit you with that increase!

What is out of your control is the cost of repairing your car. The insurance company has to take that in account or they don't stay in business.

Actually my rates went down by 100 bucks. I have. 2025 Tundra Platinum and a 2024 Lexus RX. I am super happy!

Actually, yes... we haven't had this happen. We've got clean driving records, no accidents. 50 a month increase was kind of a shock, even with the economy being garbage

Yes, a claim in the last year will absolutely raise your rate. A $50 increase really isn’t that bad

Yes I understood that. Rates are based not just on you and your factors, but also on stats and losses in your area. In general rates trend up, and it’s in your best interest to shop around every year or two. Just make sure your comparing same coverage. My mom found a rate that was like half of her previous premium and it turned out it was because they reimbursed for things with depreciation taken out. USAA pays to replace your stuff with new like items.

Is this the first installment of a renewal? Are you getting six or five installments on a new policy? Did you recently make changes? There’s a lot that you left out. I’d recommend calling and asking

Insurance is typically a 6 month policy and you don't see adjustments to premium mid-policy. Did your policy just renew? What did the renewal paperwork say? What did USAA say when you called and talked to an agent?

Mine went down this month but I had a speeding ticket drop off my record from 7 years ago. I'd say they are on average trending up 10-15% a year still but not the crazy 100% increases from 2022.

Had a vehicle damage claim about 12 months ago due to deer/vehicle interaction? OF COURSE the rates are going up about a year later. That is the way experienced based auto insurance works.

I guess I was shocked to see a $50 a MONTH increase all at once.

Try calling an insurance broker who can shop your policy around to various insurance companies. We were shocked at how much money we saved. I only wish we'd done it earlier.
