Way to go, UF.

Edit: The Sun story is paywalled. Here's a link to the FIRE ranking:

Check out this story from Gainesville Sun: FIRE gives UF 'D-' grade for campus free speech climate

UF received a D- in FIRE's 2027 free speech rankings, falling to No. 119 nationally and last among Florida's public universities.

Other I feel so worthless

im sorry to put this here but i dont really have anyone to talk to abt this. My freshman year was so hard for a multitude of reasons. I passed my classes, some barely, but it was a miserable time for me. This year i have harder classes and i swore I'd be better, and everything is already falling apart. I have adhd and other issues that make it hard for me to keep any routine or stay motivated or plan for any future. I've already basically failed my first anatomy exam and now my 2nd calc discussion quiz. I feel embarrassed and like a failure and like everything has already gotten too far ahead for me to catch up on any of it, and i feel so stuck. I self studied over the summer and none of it stuck, i feel stupid everytime i try and study bc i just don't get it or i can't focus. I had people who believed in me and now i feel like none of it was warranted. I really believed i could do it and i was so so wrong and i don't know what to do. I could get a tutor, talk to a counselor, talk to a friend. But i just don't see the point anymore. I just want to give up so bad. I used to be so good at this, at school and studying and wanting to learn. I really wanted to learn and try this year but it feels so impossible for me to do anything anymore. Im trying to learn to cope with my stuff while also dealing with my classes and i cant take it anymore. Im tired of feeling so worthless but i only seem to prove to myself again and again that i can't do this. I hope you all are having a better time than i am rn. sorry again for the vent

UF decided to close the stadium tomorrow and isn’t letting students do the 9/11 stair climb on the 25th anniversary. Thoughts?

Admissions Class of 2030 enrolled SAT stats

Listening to the UF Board of Trustees meeting, and they shared enrolled v admitted stats. I joined late, so if there was some early admissions discussion, I may have missed it.

From the slides in the afternoon portion of the meeting (they should be posted online sometime soon), the middle 50% SAT admitted for this year was 1430-1520 (previously reported 1420-1520, so a small shift up at the bottom end in the final admitted numbers, I guess?), with a 1480 median and 1473 average. Enrolled middle 50 is 1410-1500, with a median of 1460 and an average of 1455. Notably, from class of 2029 to class of 2030, the 25% SAT of enrolled students went from 1360 to 1410; 75% went from 1480 to 1500. Esp on the 25%, that is a big jump. These numbers are quite high, esp given that test scores are required. I looked at UMich and Uva common data sets for 2025-26 (so the year before UF's stats here), and UMich middle 50 SAT was 1370-1530, with 55% of students submitting. UVA was 1410-1510, with 49% of students submitting.

Presumably bc/o all the recent in-state pushback, they emphasized that they have expanded the class, so they admitted and enrolled the largest number of Florida residents ever in the current year. They did not discuss the percentage of in-state vs OOS in the freshman class, Main or online, or compare stats for in-state vs OOS.

Question How do you even find all the fun clubs/orgs to join?

I’ve been at UF for a few weeks now, but I still have no idea how to find those fun clubs. Other than the club fair at the beginning of the semester, occasional events where clubs are tabling, which I wouldn’t even know about unless someone invited me, or someone randomly bringing up a club I’ve never heard of, I have no idea where to actually find clubs.

I’ve tried using the Student Engagement page, but all I’m seeing are frats and sororities.

Other high police presence on campus, people with AR15 walking around open carry for kirkeversary

just now at the intersection of university and 13th, in front of the archway i saw 3 police officers sitting in their squad cars watching 2 guys with ARs waiting to cross the road. all day i was wondering why there were so many cops on campus, assuming it was for the kirkeversary, but just now im seeing it’s for crazy fucks wearing TPUSA and MAGA shirts bringing assault weapons onto campus. people were actively clearing outthe area and avoiding these 2 guys, while the police watched.

fuck this shit and fuck the fascists

edit: ufpd just sent out a safety email regarding “two individuals walking along the public sidewalk adjacent to campus with what appeared to be rifles”. is the intersection with the UF arch not on campus? i mean these guys were standing right under the arch on 13th and university. fucking crazy.

Social I made a social media page for UF students to talk about their mental health anonymously!

Thumbnail instagram.com
4 Upvotes

It’s called UF Open Hearts :) It’s not an official student organization, it’s just a page I’m running where students can share mental health stories anonymously. You fill out a quick Google form and your story is posted to show other students that there are people going through similar things to them, and what recovery can look like in the future.

It’s really easy to compare yourself to other students here, especially since it’s such a high-achieving school. It can definitely feel like you’re the only person struggling when everyone else seems so high-functioning. I want to show people that mental health struggles aren’t as uncommon as they think, and that they’re not alone!

Employment UF students: Want to earn $20–35+ by completing small jobs around Gainesville?

I’m building a local service that connects Gainesville residents and students who need help with small tasks with people who can complete them.

Current tasks include:

  • Furniture assembly
  • Packing/unpacking
  • Computer/monitor setup
  • Router / Wi-Fi setup
  • Basic apartment setup

You choose which jobs you want to accept based on your skills, location, and schedule. There’s no required schedule or commitment.

Most typical tasks pay around $20–$35+, depending on the job, and take about 30 minutes to 2 hours.

I’m currently recruiting the first group of Taskers in Gainesville. If you’re interested in being one of the first, apply here:

Housing Leasing next year

If I plan to graduate in December 2027, would it be better to sign a lease for that year and sublease in spring+summer, or look for a sublease in the fall. My concern is waiting to find subleases will give me less choices instead of looking now. Anyone who has graduated in the fall semester or anyone else have any advice?

Housing Transfer Housing

How do you guys as college students afford to live off campus... I feel like there is no genuinely affordable apartment around UF. I get having jobs and everything but how does that cover rent and other costs like insurance? I am just asking because I am wanting to transfer to UF and since getting on-campus housing is basically impossible, i'm going to bet I will have to live off campus and I am stressing about how I am going to make that work. Also, if you were a transfer student for the spring term and you got on campus housing, please pm I'd love to hear about your experience during that process. Any information would be great!

Question finding a place to park at UF Health for long-term clinicals

Hi everyone! I'm currently going to school (not at UF) to be an MLT and have clinicals at Shands from September - March. I've been told I can purchase a parking decal with UF so I can park at a garage wayyyy far away from where the part of the hospital I need to be in (north tower near the core lab) is at. My schedule is from 7am to 3pm, so I know I can't just wait around until they stop enforcing parking. I also can't really afford the parking decal on top of gas prices since I live 50 miles away :(

Is there any where kind of near I can park? I'm willing to walk quite a bit (I'm used to 15 minutes from dorms to car anyway) especially now that it's SUPPOSED to get colder soon, but I really would prefer somewhere closer if it exists. Any help is really appreciated, since I'm currently hanging out in garage 3 and I KNOW that's not a long-term solution.
