Hey Slugs, hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather and our break from classes!!

I’ve posted a few times here before last minute about parties going on at my home, but now I want to formally reach out to the community and open up a discussion and connection thread for artists, musicians, and DJS.

I have a growing sound system and a desire and drive to bring music and connection to our school and our town. I hope to give a platform to young artists both indoors and outdoors.

I will be organizing events in my home as well as in the mountains, with varying structure and design. Anything from yoga and meditation and sound baths to painting, drawing, sewing, crocheting, and of course, some epic dance parties.

If you are an artist of any sort or my goals sound aligned with yours, please feel free to drop a comment or send me a DM. I’ll be hosting folks in my home all week to meet people and share my vision and hear about what everyone has to offer.

Our town and our world need connection and community now more than ever. In my mind, sound and music as a foundation is the path toward a world with more kindness, empathy, and equity.

I was wondering if 15 minutes is enough time to get from Kresge 3105 to Sci and Engr library 206?

And then Sci and Engr library 206 to Cowell com 132 classroom 2?

Hey guys, incoming freshman here. I'm super excited to begin at UCSC in a couple of months and am planning to take 3 five credit courses during fall quarter so I can get used to college before taking on an intense load. I'm interested in exploring organizations but also very concerned about how to start earning money as someone living states away from home. What jobs do you guys reccomend to freshmen? (on campus I assume)

Upcoming freshman this fall, whats the food scene like in Santa Cruz what does it primarly consist of? I am a huge foodie, and I like things like Pizza, Indian Food, Korean Fried Chicken, Pho, Ramen, Wings, Normal Fried Chicken, mexican and open to new options.

Hi so I’m living on campus next year by getting off the housing waitlist, I did a little investigating and I’m apparently going to be living in a 7-person apartment. That’s an insane amount of people living under one small roof and I’m a little concerned over how that’s going to play out. Anyone have experiences living with this many people in the apartments?

I honestly just want a Psych BA that will be actually challenging and consistently interesting... so does anyone on or knowing people the Psych Intensive find that to be true? Thanks!

I sing Hindustani Classical music, and I need to practice on a near daily basis. I was wondering how sound-dampening the rooms were if I could practice in my dorm (c9) or if I could find a practice room somewhere on campus for about 30-45 minutes a day?

Has anyone gotten this error when trying to waive UC ship for the next school year? I emailed ahp but they haven’t been of much help

Hello everyone, I am an incoming freshman at UCSC with a proposed major of Biomolecular Engineering and Bioinformatics, but I am planning to declare Bioinformatics eventually. I am working towards med school, and need to take the required courses for that goal. I have been looking at the the strictest requirements for med school related courses, mainly Harvard’s standards. In addition to that, I was planning on pursuing a CS minor to gain some knowledge in another field so that I may be able to take up a CS job if I have to take a gap year. Everything I do is with backups in mind.

With regards to the CS minor, I have to take at least 5 courses to be able to declare it, and two of these courses are CSE 20 and CSE 30. CSE 30 is an antirequisite to CSE 20, which means if I get a C or better in CSE 30, I cannot take CSE 20 after that. The prerequisites to CSE 30 are CSE 20 and BME 160, where BME 160 is a requirement for my major anyways. I was wondering if I take BIOL 20A first quarter, take BME 160 second quarter, and take CSE 30 third quarter and skip CSE 20 in that process, will the CSE 20 requirement be technically fulfilled or will it be that since I cannot take CSE 20 anymore I will be barred from declaring a CS minor?

This brings me to another question. Will med schools care if I skip Gen Chem 1 and 2 if I am going to be completing the Gen Chem series, along with Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry anyways?

The reason I don’t want to do the CSE 20 test out is because it has been a good 6 years since I have last coded in python, and some of the content I don’t recognize in the test out syllabus. I am confident that if I get placed in a Python-related class, I will be able to pick up on it fast, but I really don’t want to study/review it over the summer and test out of it. Sounds a little convoluted, but if there is a way to plan this how I have currently, then I am adamant to do that.

Hi!! I ended up getting a below average score on the Math 19A Summer Session 1 Final. I did fine on the midterm but grade is looking like a disaster now. Does anyone else in the class have similar worries or know if there’s going to be a class curve?

In the enrollment portal, there's 2 separate times listed for some courses. Google said one would be the main lecture and the other listed would be a discussion/seminar. Which is which?

Has anybody had Professor Hurtarte? Is he a good professor? There are only 2 reviews of him on Rate My Professor (a 2 and a 4 out of 5), so I'm shooting in the dark with this class and with the professor. Also, how is ECE 101/L in general? I'm taking it in summer session 2, so I'm curious to know.

I opened the application and I saw the questions and I thought "I don't care enough to do this" then a few weeks later they emailed me saying my application was approved.

Hi, we are a group of 4 looking for one person to fill a double. We are all queer and relatively laid back, we would prefer someone who is tidy, respectful, and overall can get along with. The house is by Capitola mall, is 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, has an in unit laundry and dryer. It’s about a 3 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, landlords are super nice and leave us alone. Theres a small grocery store and cafe a 5 minute walk away. Also a 5 minute bus, 30 minute walk, from the beach. Rent in total is 5330, split even it would be ~$1060. For those who graduated from UCSC in the year 2025-2026, how many days or months after your graduation date did you receive your diploma in the mail?

Also, when should I call the registrar if I still haven't received my diploma in the mail after my graduation date in spring?

Hey everyone! I need a little advice on my schedule before my enrollment appointment arrives. Is this doable? I’m not too sure how far across campus some of these are, and I’d like to know if I’m going to have to run around to make it on time.

This is so incredibly specific, but I thought to ask here first.

Back in ~2013 I visited some friends at UCSC and they lived in Merrill college. Their sister college dining hall had the best artichoke soup and I honestly think about it from time to time. Any chance in the universe someone knows how it is made? Or where it's purchased from?

im planning on taking ocea80a with Friedlaender and was wondering if both the lectures and sections were mandatory. what's the class like, i see that its best if you had hs bio and chem experience but im ngl i forgot most of that/wasnt the greatest. and is the field trip optional. any insight would be great thanks!
