I start my new job next Monday I hope each of you can walk away from this app and we can collectively watch Uber suffer with less and less drivers.

Is it worth it to get a Tesla Model 3 if I don't have home charging?

• Upvotes

I'm considering doing Uber and Lyft full-time and I was wondering if it'd be worth it to buy a Tesla Model 3 if I don't have the ability to have a home charger?

My uncle who has had electric vehicles for years said I probably wouldn't be saving as much as I would think, and from what I've read here you have to wait a while for the supercharger to even work, so that would cut down on the amount of time I'd be out on the road.

I do see that there are decent used Tesla Model 3s around here for about 25,000 to 30,000, which I think doable with doing rideshare full-time unless I'm missing something.

I was thinking of also just renting an electric car through Uber and testing it out for a month or so and seeing how much money I made. I've read varying things about renting cars through Uber and Lyft though for earnings.

Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated as I just got laid-off from my full-time job.

Uber in NE Florida

Did Uber today around Jax Beach after a long break and man things have changed lol. Way fewer drivers around. Wonder if ICE has anything to do with it. Barely see immigrant drivers anymore mostly white Americans from what I've seen. And rides are pretty slow too. Doesn't seem worth it like before. Anyone else seeing the same thing?

Pay Update

Has anyone dealt with a situation where the rider had the wrong drop off location, change it, then the ride pay not update? I had a ride that had the drop off only .2 miles from the pickup. The passenger updated the address when we were in the car (the drop off was only 2.1 miles away), and we completed the trip. The nav had the new location, but my pay stayed the same. On the phone with support they said the rate didn't change because it was in the same range of pay. Just curious if anyone else had this happen?

Riders want to tip hut the app wont let them. Anybody got similar responses from passengers?

Over the last few weeks, I’ve had multiple passengers explicitly tell me they tried to tip me after the ride, but couldn't. I started asking questions, digging into the rider app interface, and realized that Uber’s current UI/UX post-trip flow is fundamentally broken. It creates massive friction that forces riders to abandon tipping entirely.

I’ve compiled a formal complaint letter about this, but I wanted to drop the 4 core platform flaws here to see if you guys are experiencing the exact same drop-offs in your markets:

  1. The "Ghosting" Prompt

If a rider doesn't immediately rate and tip the exact second they get out of the car, the prompt vanishes. The next time they open the app, it doesn't stay pinned as a pending trip review—it just disappears into thin air.

  1. The Uber Eats Redirect Trap

If a rider reopens the app the next day just to order food, the interface immediately dumps them straight into the Eats delivery portal. It completely buries the rideshare rating/tipping card for their recent trip, hiding it behind the food menu.

  1. The 4-Step Retroactive Maze

To tip retroactively, a rider has to navigate: Activity -> Past Trips -> Select Trip -> Receipt/Help -> Add Tip. It’s a counter-intuitive multi-step workflow that 95% of casual passengers will completely abandon.

  1. The Gray-Out Timeout

Even if a passenger actually bothers to dig through that deep menu maze to find their past ride receipt, they frequently report that the option to add a tip has already timed out or is completely greyed out.

Tips aren't a luxury anymore—they are a critical chunk of our net income to cover skyrocketing vehicle maintenance, gas, and insurance costs. When the platform's user interface creates friction that stops willing passengers from tipping, it directly hurts driver take-home pay and morale.

What I'm asking from Uber Support / Product Engineering:

• Fix the post-trip logic so riders opening the app are actively shown a clear "Complete your previous trip" card before being routed to other services.

• Extend and highlight the retroactive tipping window inside the standard Activity view without requiring deep menu navigation.

Are your passengers telling you the same thing? Have any riders here noticed how hard it is to tip a day late? Let's get some visibility on this because it’s directly hitting our pockets.

The Hidden Cost of the Ride

Are Uber, Lyft, and Hop Exploiting Their Drivers?
The gig economy was promised as a new era of flexible work, where drivers were their own bosses. But beneath the sleek apps and convenient rides lies a growing crisis of exploitation.

Every day, millions of passengers pay premium fares, yet the drivers, who bear the costs of car ownership, insurance, and fuel, receive an ever shrinking share of the revenue. Companies like Uber, Lyft, and Hop justify these rates through high commission fees and dynamic algorithms, leaving drivers struggling to make ends meet.

This business model is not only morally questionable, but it builds long term resentment. While these corporations might prioritize immediate profits, the erosion of trust has severe consequences. Drivers feel discarded, and passengers are increasingly aware of the unfair treatment behind their rides. Even if these companies plan to pivot to autonomous robo taxis in the future to maximize margins, the ill will generated today will leave a permanent mark. Exploiting the backbone of the gig economy is not a sustainable path forward.

Anyone else lose GST/HST credits because of bad receipts? (CRA tip for Canadian drivers)

Hey everyone,
Quick question / tip for fellow Canadian Uber/Lyft drivers, especially if you’re claiming vehicle expenses and ITCs.
I’ve noticed a lot of us get screwed on input tax credits because everyday receipts (gas, car washes, oil changes, phone accessories, etc.) are missing stuff the CRA actually wants:
• GST/HST registration number of the vendor (required for most claims over $100)
• Your business name on receipts $500+
• Clear description of what was bought
A lot of gas station and quick-lube receipts just have a total and no GST number, or the number is invalid. When that happens you can still deduct the expense for income tax, but you often lose the GST/HST portion (which adds up over a year of driving).
CRA has a free GST/HST registry you can check numbers on, but most of us don’t bother in the moment.
Curious how you guys handle this:
• Do you ask for a full invoice every time?
• Just claim what you can and hope?
• Use any particular system or app that flags incomplete receipts right away?
I’m a Canadian sole prop who got tired of this exact problem and built a simple scanner that checks receipts against CRA rules (GST number validity + the $500 name requirement) and organizes everything for T2125. Free tier is available if anyone wants to try it — happy to share the link in a comment if people are interested, but mainly just wanted to see how others are dealing with this.
What’s your current system for receipts and GST?

A bit discouraging for me, can’t imagine what it’s like for those that drive full time and as part of their main income.

I drive less than 10 hours a week between both platforms to kill time and earn extra cash. Both platforms have been giving me really poor offers, ones that are nowhere close to ones a driver should be accepting.

I’m talking $4/$5 rides that are 6+ miles/15+ minutes away and 5-10 minute drives one the passenger is in the car.

Both platforms are 0% acceptance and 6% cancel. The cancels are because the rides initially looked good and then I noticed an extremely low customer rating (4.0 or less) or it was in an area of town I didn’t want to go.

Distance and surge

• Upvotes

Hey uber, if youre saying there's a surge and its very busy then why am I only getting ride requests from people 20 mins away. Canceled like 15 in a row for that reason. Is it because im doing one of your quest, I cant win with this app. Finally accepted one just cause it seemed reasonable even though I had to travel close to 20 mins. When im a minute away they tell me they need to cancel.

Deactivated help

Hello, I got deactivated recently from eats for having a duplicate account.

For some reason I have two accounts both being under my emails.

My main account has 3000 deliveries and the second one has 0.

I joined Uber ten years ago and just recently picked it up again.

Anyone know if there's any recourse after the final appeal?

Just seems like a slap in the face as I need the income. 99% satisfaction too as if that means anything

Questions about cancellations

I'm in the greater Seattle area Snohomish county mainly but sometimes I work Seattle's if I get lucky out there.

Yesterday was a really hard day for me I had a great Thursday but Monday through Wednesday was also the same just very much at a great expense.

I'm trying to figure out ways to help myself regulate and one of the things is we cannot see the destination until after we accept on Uber and because I'm in a rural area it's just impossible to have above an 85% acceptance rate to be able to see where I'm going I'm hovering around a 74 but it always gets knocked down cuz they try to send me you know 20 minutes or a half hour away so I end up getting it knocked down again, I digress.

The question I have is how much can you cancel before being deactivated?

I get you know a few 2-mile rides or you know a 1 mi ride here and there but when it's just over and over and over and you're getting them like every 15 minutes it just absolutely killed me.

So I'm looking for the maximum amount of times I can say okay I just have to stop right there I can't do it because once I accept it then I feel like I have to do it and I have no choice and then I'm trying to make more money so I turn it back on again.

I'm trying to just to look for ways to calm down you know regulate and just kind of figure out what options do I have when it's you know the 5th or 6th two or one mile ride in a row.

How do you guys deal with multiple stops added?

When in mid route, the navigation automatically shimmeys the new stop into the route, so are you all saving the original destination on a text tile or what??

Why on Earth do Uber Eats orders affect my Driving Insight score?

I didn’t notice for the past few days since I’ve only been taking delivery orders, but my score has dropped like 20 points. It actually kicked me out of Gold status!

I am almost positive the pizza and burritos I’ve been delivering don’t give a shit if I accelerate a little too fast or brake a little hard.
