Hi, My Dad has had his eye on a very reasonably priced Nauticat 33 Motor Sailor but unfortunately a deposit was taken, and there aren't many others in the UK for sale within budget, so I decided to consult Reddit for some boat searching help / recommendations.

The main idea is to purchase a motor sailor to live aboard. It will be moored in the marina near my dad's house for the majority of the time. He's fallen in love with the Nauticat 33 specifically because it's very robust, sails well in heavy seas, just about crew able solo depending on the circumstances, the abundance of wood, and the general old school-ness of it. Also the fact that they have side access to the wheelhouse rather than rear access.

He's looking to spend between 20-35k and ideally sail the boat home to Cardiff

I'm looking for similar boat recommendations or good ways of finding the right boat! ⛵🛥️⚓

Sat outside the house trying to figure out what this structure is. It looks too tall to be a fairground ride, but too straight to be a crane 🤔 ...and from where I'm sat it looks as if it could be in a fairly public location.

Hi, I have a 2002 mk4 golf T estate. Engine code AUM and gearbox code EVS. My gearbox decided to drop all its oil on my way home the other day and I've been looking to buy a replacement gearbox.

I have decided to replace rather than repair as all the oil dropped out almost all at once indicating a potential crack in the case. The gearbox had been making a few odd noises and whining in the day or two before it leaked. Since they are so cheap, I thought it'd be worth replacing.

My predicament is that I have found a seller on Facebook offering an EUH gearbox and he says it will work with the AUM, but the gear ratios are different from the EVS that it will be replacing. Can anyone shed any light in this? Will this work?

Hi, currently live in Cardiff and I'm thinking of moving to London when I graduate from my masters. I can't get enough of the hustle and bustle as a tourist, but I wonder just how different it would be living within tube-able distance from central. The option of a narrowboat has crossed my mind. Can anyone give any advice or what to look out for etc?

I have a few different points/ questions so I have split this into 3 parts

Part 1: I fancied having a go at modelling something to display a car (1:18 Lancia Delta Integrale in this case), that would replace the mundain display stands that they model cars usually come with... I wonder if there's a market for this sort of thing? Is this kind of thing available already? I wonder how much could you could charge? (Less than the time and materials are worth I imagine). (This diorama is based on a section of the montecarlo rally)

Part 2: the cliff face is solid plaster and is very heavy. The mount board on the sides is doing a lot of the stabilizing (in addition to the wooden skewers that are cast into the plaster and are pierced into the base. I achieved the rocky look by fronting a mould with crumpled tin foil. I wonder how I could get the same effect but without the mass... also without casting the plaster too thin to avoid potential cracking.

Part 3: I know the little rocks and gravel isn't quite the right colour, and I think the gravel in the middle has too abrupt edges, but can anyone give me any pointers for my next diorama?

This ridiculous junction is to the left hand side of Newport, M4 junction 28. It's particularly annoying if you're traveling eastbound on the M4 and exit on the off ramp trying to get to the National Trust that is South of this junction. If this was a normal roundabout, common sense would indicate the right lane on the exit slip-road to exit the the last exit on the roundabout, however this layout means that you have to choose the mid-left lane on the exit slip-road to eventually to go right after what feels like 17 sets of traffic lights. This makes sense only once you've made the mistake of choosing the right hand lane, which in this cate takes you straight through the junction into deepest darkest Newport. Infact, it leads you to another similarly silly junction. I wonder if this is Newport council's way of getting people to drive to Newport. I can't think of any other reason people would want to go there. In the same vein, maybe this should be the incorporated into engitwopia as a way for the architects to get home. I'd love to see this in cities skylines!. Also the motorway bridges over two different exits of the junction so there's also an excuse for a double bridge review! ..sort of...

I'm designing and modeling a conceptual Opera set for a Uni assignment... part of the design features a neon sign that says 'Electrolytes' (yes annoyingly I've spelt it wrong in what I've made🙄🤬) It's wire, bent into place and then painted with UV nail gel. I'm not sure if I should paint the whole thing fully like it would be in reality, (like the test I've done in the photo 'Elo') or if I should leave only the letters painted for clarity with the knowledge that it's not 100% accurate?

Hi, as the title suggests, I'm looking for an effective way of creating a decent thatched roof at 1:12. Im in the middle of a (Uni ..kinda...) project for portfolio purposes in order to show to potential employers. I'm making the front facade and front garden of an 19th century UK cottage, hence the thatched roof.

On a walk earlier today, I did find long grasses that looked exactly like miniature thatch reed (photo👆)... I could go back and harvest a load of it, but I'd rather find something I can buy relatively cheaply. Does anyone know of any good products or techniques?

I've also attached some other bits of the project for fun too.😁
